Bucs Cut Wide Receiver Adam Humphries

October 5th, 2015

Adam Humphries

Tough break for arguably the top story of the Buccaneers’ preseason.

Tryout rookie receiver Adam Humphries out of Clemson made the Bucs’ roster after a strong finish to his preseason.

And now he’s gone.

The first pass of Jameis Winston’s regular-season career went to Humphries. It was intercepted for a pick-6 and Humphries was blasted for running a weak route. In the opener, he was targeted four times and caught two balls for 14 yards. The Bucs never threw another pass his way.

Joe suspects if Humphries clears waivers, then he’ll land on Tampa Bay’s practice squad. The Bucs have two rookie receivers there now, Donteea Dye and Evans Spencer.

  2. This Guy Right Here Says:

All these cuts today, feel like the F.O. is just trying to take the attention away from the heat on Lovie..

    Scapegoats, come on down!

    “Scapegoats, come on down!”

    exactly!

  5. scotty Says:

Some other team will get him and he will turn into a pro bowl wr.

  6. The Buc Realist Says:

I guess he was not on the verge!!!!

  7. This Guy Right Here Says:

Bill Belichick just stopped motorboating his wife right now, and is dialing up Humphries agent…

  8. Lue0615 Says:

This kid has good hands wtf

  9. waterboy Says:

He’ll clear waiver and end up back on the practice squad and allowed to develop more.

  10. Buccfan37 Says:

Lovie “we’re getting better”. I don’t know what he’s watching. Same old softball questions thrown at him before the press and same old answers.

  11. Idontwannahearitanymore Says:

America’s wide receiver. He’s out – simple as that.

  12. DWE Says:

Huge mistake. This kid will be good. Lovie cannot evaluate or see talent. Lovie needs to go back into his basement

  13. Greg Says:

Starting to think Lovie doesn’t Love white people or Hawaiians!

  14. St.pete 77 Says:

This guy will be in New England by Wednesday and playing by Sunday!!

  15. DB55 Says:

I don’t understand any decision Lovie makes, not one!!!

  16. BigMacAttack Says:

    Next Wes Welker

  17. Drew Says:

    Lovie is in CYA mode.

  18. Ernest T Says:

Verner and Goldson were pro bowlers that dropped off with the Bucs. Clayborn and M Johnson look solid after leaving. Barron too. GMC and LVD are coasting. We need a veteran GM and hire Tom Clements. Humphries will catch passes from Rodgers!

  19. Drew Says:

Lovie is the master in the art of deflection.

  20. scott Says:

Well lets see if someone claims him. He may be needed on a WR starved team

  21. PhillyBuc Says:

While the team is crumbling at his feet, it’s the tough, masterful decisions like this that will cement Lovie’s legacy.

  22. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Lets face it….Humphries just doesn’t fit the Bucs passing game…..

    He’s short
    He has speed
He runs great short routes over the middle

Yes, he could be the next Wes Welker with Brady or Manning throwing to him.
From what I have seen, Jameis doesn’t throw many short passes over the middle….he like downfieldl….and down & out routes….same as Glennon & Freeman.
I never understood why that hasn’t become part of our offense.
It seems like everytime we have a 3rd and less than 5….we are throwing 15 yard passes.
3rd & 10 we usually throw 5 yard passes. Not all on Winston….some is gameplan & playcalling.

  23. Buc1987 Says:

    Lovie Smith.

  24. OneLove Says:

Quick! Let’s play “THE COACHING CAROUSEL!!” because it’s so fun!!!

“It’s as simple as that” – Lovie Smith aka “I wish a muthaf!@% would!!”

  25. This Guy Right Here Says:

“Quick! Let’s play “THE COACHING CAROUSEL!!” because it’s so fun!!!”

I know right?? We’re on pace for a 4-12 season! Twice as good as last year! No need to shake things up now!

  26. DallasBuc Says:

So Humphries with sure hands and speed can’t stay on the roster but guys like the great George Johnson can continue to ride the pine for a 5th and $3mil/yr?
    Incompetent Lovie Smith.

  27. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Got nothing to do with scapegoats, ya dweebs.

They needed to make roster room and the guys claimed off waivers at the start of the season cannot be cut yet.

    Get a clue.

  28. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

Lovie is starting to sound like a car salesman trying to sale you a crappy car. Instead of selling a car he is selling more time to be our head coach. I’m not buying it!!

  29. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Bonzai

I think the waiver claims only have to be kept 3 games…..could be wrong…but…

  30. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

One of the practice squad WRs has been put on the roster.

And google play just opened as i typed because of an ad. Sucks.

  31. james in dunedin Says:

He’s gone, and there’s nothing we can do about it.

  32. Steve-O Says:

    Bucs release Brindza!!

  33. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I love it how we cut someone and everyone makes as if they are the next “INSERT GREAT PLAYER OF SAME COLOR AND POSITION”. Really guys, Adam Humphries? It’s a great story and all, but really??? Wes Welker he is not. That’s an insult to Wes Welker. Everyone thought Mike James was the next Walter Payton, yet he’s sitting on our practice squad. I’m all for criticizing Lovie, in fact I encourage it, but we don’t need to make stuff up. There’s plenty there to criticize.

  34. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

Seahawks cover 3 / cover 1 defense looks good 🙁

  35. M It Smyth Says:

I have an original idea; fire the leader of the “Cover Who” defense we run. We got Debacled again.

  36. J Says:

Did they cut humphries I make room for QB?

  37. J Says:

So Humphries goes to Nashville and that QB makes him look like a star.

  38. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

    @J

Get off Mariota’s jock strap. He has a losing record even with a decent O-Line, he still needs to survives by running armature college plays because he’s not a real NFL quarterback

  39. Reezy Says:

@J Sweet baby Jesus I hope they do make more room for a QB. Not saying we get rid of Winston but trade Glennon and add a vet for security if we are going to commit to this suicide squad for the rest of the season.

  40. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @J,

Colin Kaepernick was thought of as the most promising QB in the league by guys like Ron Jaworski, among others, running a very similar offense. How is that working out nowadays? RG3 was thought by many to be better than Luck. How is that working out? While I like Mariota, lets not crown him yet. These running QB’s tend to start out on fire, then cool off once defenses get some tape on them. Maybe he’ll be the exception, but I wouldn’t book my trip to Canton for him just yet.

On the flip side, when Peyton was a rookie, he was awful. Same for Elway, Aikman, and Brees. I’m not saying Jameis will be as good as those guys, but my point is that they weren’t great right away either. They showed flashes of brilliance, as well as moments of head scratching. That’s pretty much what Jameis is doing. Give it time before you proclaim one better than the other.

  41. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

What makes a QB is the amount of time they spend studying defensives and perfecting their craft

  42. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

What makes a QB great is the amount of time they spend studying defenses and perfecting their craft

  43. Drywaller Buc Says:

Still think Glennon deserves some playing time after that debacle of turnover fest. Omg I was embarrassed in the bar, ppl are asking for another game!!! Pitiful absolutely pitiful
How many more interceptions will he throw this year before Glennon gets to play. That was part of the scouting report…. Interception machine… Ignore it cuz hes a homer pick… A pick.6

  44. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

    @Drywaller

No. We’ve already seen Glennon does not have the potential to win Super Bowls. Winston is the best hope we have to getting back to the promise land. We just got to find some offensive linemen who can $*#(&$ block well for him. When he starts getting the same amount of time Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, and Drew Brees have to find open receivers we can judge him on an even playing field. BUT GLENNON IS NOT THE ANSWER

  45. This Guy Right Here Says:

    @Drywaller…

Dude, you need to come to peace with the fact that Winston is our QB… If it makes you feel any better, Peyton Manning had 11 Ints in his first 4 games…

  46. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

    LOL @ 11 ints in 4 games

  47. DB55 Says:

Humphries was released to bring up donate dye from the practice squad. But I thought Hall was the better rcv?

All I know is Lovie cut delaire and riverboat Ron had him looking like a seasoned starter, just saying.

  48. Tampabaybucfan Says:

The missing ingredient is ASJ….there is no team that can cover VJAX, ASJ & ME13……you will see when he returns….

  49. cmurda Says:

Stupid move to cut Humphries. Plenty of Welker-like potential there. He was a rookie just like half of this team. He can learn to run better routes. Let’s see what genius move L & L decides is more worth the roster spot. Sorry for being cynical but I’ve seen just about all I care to see from a personnel perspective. On that note, I just watched Tim Wright catch a super-clutch pass for Detroit who is marching for possible game-winning drive. We just cut Brindza today. Catch my drift.

  50. This Guy Right Here Says:

“The missing ingredient is ASJ….there is no team that can cover VJAX, ASJ & ME13……you will see when he returns….”

Coulda still had Tim Wright.. 6’4″, good hands…. But our Personnel Chief Lovie felt that Brindza was, well you know how the story goes…

  51. Drywaller Buc Says:

At this point, we need to not think Superbowl. We need to win one game, and then one more and so forth. I cannot see Glennon making these mistakes. He has better foot work, a stronger arm, and more accurate, doesn’t turn over the ball anywhere near as much.

Winston needs to watch n learn. Hes a lost child. Play Glennon and go for the win.

  52. cmurda Says:

If we lose to the Jags at home, which would be 3 losses in a row at home to start the season, how could Lovie not be canned or at least on the hot seat? Especially if it is another ugly game without any sort of gameplan being executed. There is no more room for patience. I think we all expected some up and down from a rookie QB, but the defense and special teams along with droves of penalties is an indictment on Lovie. My patience is wearing very thin. The Bucs better stomp a mudhole in the Jags just for some sort of sanity for the pained Bucs fans.

  53. Bucnut@ Says:

cmurda, the Jags will stomp our ass for the same reason the panthers did. OUR QB sucks!! JW is a bust and we are all just papering over his *& * * play! This guys is aweful. FSU King were are you? You said you know QB’s, I think you are full of it!

  54. passthebuc Says:

Great news. He now will be picked up by a good team and will be all pro in 3 years.

  55. Nuc if u Buc Says:

Should have practiced squaded him and kept Hall from the start…

  56. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

I can’t think of a reason why you guys think Jameis is a bust other than because you are idiots. Mariota has a losing record and still needs to run amateur college plays because he’s not a good NFL quarterback. Jameis on the other hand has a losing record because his team has the worst head coach, horrible offensive line, slow receivers, unreliable field goal kicker, and a defense that no one in the NFL takes seriously.

  57. Buc1987 Says:

    Drywaller Buc says :

“How many more interceptions will he throw this year before Glennon gets to play”

50 that’s your number. Winston has to throw 50 more INT’s before Glennon gets to play.

  58. wes Says:

Needed to grow his hair out. Almost every team in the league has a token white guy with long hair.

  59. buc15 Says:

Just another mistake. We just cut the most sure handed WR on the roster….yay Lovie!

  60. True Bucs Fan Says:

I have been a Buccaneers fan ( true fan ) through the good and the large amount of bad and I will always be a fan. That being said our kicker misses that many field goals and X points and A. Humphries is punished by being waived! These are the type of decisions the fans are scratching there heads at. I am not blind and can see that we have many issues on the roster but 11 played his a$$ off during the preseason and earned a spot on this team. Mark my words he will be a star somewhere or at worst a very serviceable slot receiver compared to a Welker or Edelman type of playmaker. Now I am no NFL coach but it seems like this move is cutting of an arm to slow a small cut from bleeding. All I know is that these moves along with the poor showings on Sunday are adding up on the coaches ledger and being a great coach along time ago is not doing much for him now!

  61. unbelievable Says:

We got rid of Hall, and now Humphries, 2 speedy quick twitch receivers with good hands, so we could put Evan Spencer (the running back coach’s son) on the squad instead.

Pretty sure Lovie took the HC job just to hand out other jobs to his friends. It’s mind blowing that the Glazers gave him so much personnel control.
