Watt: Jameis Is “Smart”
September 23rd, 2015When America’s Quarterback, Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston, noted in the offseason he was looking forward to playing J.J. Watt more than any NFL player this season, a lot of Bucs fans moaned and thought the last thing Jameis should do is rile up the best defensive player in the NFL and a true quarterback killer.
Jameis explained today that comment wasn’t meant to be full of hubris, but more admiration that he would be on the same playing field as one of the best who has ever played the game. Jameis said he grew up admiring Watt.
When Jameis spoke with the Houston pen and mic club earlier today, he said facing Watt would be “an honor.”
That was just what Watt wanted to hear, said John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.
When Tampa Bay rookie quarterback Jameis Winston spoke to Houston media on a conference call today, he said it was an honor to play against defensive end J.J. Watt.
Later, Watt was asked how he felt after learning Winston said it would be an honor to play against him?
“That’s a smart rookie,” Watt said. “Saying the right thing.”
Watt and his fellow defensive linemen very well could be the tipping point of the game. In his daily presser this afternoon, Bucs coach Lovie Smith noted that whichever team has the best play from their defensive lines, the Bucs or the Texans, will likely win Sunday.

Lol
Watt smells rookie QB blood in the waters of Houston NRG stadium

Never understood the reasoning that Jameis ever said anything that would offend JJ Watt.

A quick throw opposite of Watt. Bucs win 17-0

How about.. Winston trucks Watt into the end zone.. Bucs Win 6-5!

Jameis is smart not because he’s a natural genius, but because of how much effort he puts into learning. He puts more time and energy into studying than any quarterback we have ever had. He understands great quarterbacks win games from the neck up, not their legs or arm strength. Jameis Winston is the best possible draft pick we ever had. Our O-Line needs to block well for him to one day take us to the Super Bowl

JJ is a phenomenal D end that’s unquestionable, but damn if he isn’t the most self righteous douche walking cliche meathead in the league today. He couldn’t just say thanks or even deflect he has to bask and belittle Winston with “smart rookie”. The “Everyman and I work harder than you” is just as obnoxious as the TO or Deion persona, they are both look at me. Derrick Brooks and other HOF worked just as hard as Watt but you never heard them reminding people or the media about it as much as JJ. I hope Jameis and Co. Can drop an L on this meathead.

I recall just a few season’s ago his Nick name was jj swat cause he was mainly known for batting down pass attempts. Now all of sudden he leads the league in sack totals and considered by many to be the best defensive player in the league. Things that make you go Hmmm😒.

This is actually a pretty big compliment coming from Watt who’s not afraid of criticizing QB’s off field behavior, ie: Zach Mettenberger

Nole on Sat-
That’s just a side effect of hard work…that and enlarged skull, backne, and fits of rage

The guys in my neighborhood were so tough when they sacked the quarterback then they went after his family.
Rodney Dangerfield.
Damn I’m old remembering that kinda crap.

If I am not mistaken, quotes of Winston’s admiration for Watt predates the release of the Buccaneer’s schedule. Being consistent I think is a sign of a positive character.

Haha. What a classic! I’m envisioning the pool diving scene.

JJ Watt is one of the best defensive players, but so is G. McCoy. They have Clowney, but we have Jack Smith. Jack leads the league in Sacks right now. This is going to be a showdown from the guys up front. I’m off on Sunday,…does anyone know how I can get the game from living in NY? I have NFL rewind, but Im ready to watch and unfortunately I have Time Warner cable and not Direct TV,..so I can’t get the package. Please let me know a way to stream it!!!

I think we can expect to see a lot of Luke Stocker in the game to help Donovan Smith against Watt by chipping the hell out of him. Will it work?

Winston: Plays the awk shucks country boy better than anyone: Siege the day, Bucs win.

Winston reminds me a little of Ali. Cocky, intelligent, and confident as hell, but talented and willing to put in the work so that he doesn’t need to eat his own words.

The difference between Ali and Jamies is that Jamies relies on a team to help him perform well, we’re as Ali just needed himself. Our O-line doesn’t stand a chance vs this D when it comes to pass protection. They better be able to run the ball well to keep the Texans D from pinning there ears back and showing us fans how bad our O-line still is. The Bucs D will need to play a perfect game and probably score at least once for us to have a chance. So, run the ball well to keep the pressure off, and D scores and plays dominate then we have a chance. If not, I hate to break it to you all but the Texans will crush the Bucs and get there first win.
