Using Watt As A Decoy?

Bucs RG Ali Marpet talks about how the Texans seem to be using all-world DT J.J. Watt differently this year.

Bucs guard Ali Marpet talks about how the Texans seem to be using all-world defensive tackle J.J. Watt differently this year.

Joe enjoys reading the musings of Andy Benoit of theMMQB.com, as he breaks down the tape of a handful of NFL games each week, and often posts his findings on Twitter while watching tape.

Conveniently for Joe, Benoit monitored tape of the Texans-Stinking Panthers game and had a nugget on all-world defensive tackle J.J. Watt.

So after reading this, Joe went straight to Bucs stud rookie guard Ali Marpet for his two cents. Like Benoit, Marpet has seen the same thing on tape.

“I haven’t seen a lot of stunts inside,” Marpet said, noting that last year Watt was moved around a lot but not so much this year.

Benoit inferred that the Texas are trying to cross up if not confuse opposing offensive lines with stunts to spring Watt. Marpet didn’t go that far.

“It is not that confusing as far as he is not done anything in the stunt game,” Marpet said. “[The stunts are] usually away from him.”

One might infer Watt could be hurt since he’s not being moved much, but Marpet wouldn’t go there.

“I think it is just the way their d-line coach and defensive coordinator have it set up.”

How much does it benefit the offense having picked up brown off of waivers. Do you think koetter is getting solid insist of the Texans defense from somebody that studied their playbook?

If the jersey number was 56 and the last name was Taylor I might be as spooked as some of you sound in reference to this dude.

If he’s lining up at RDE, then this will be more of a task for Mankins/Smith.

In any event, stopping (or should I say, slowing down) Watt will need to be a whole line effort.

I expect to see a lot of Brent Myers lined up next to D. Smith on Sunday

Haha sure its a tough comparison to one of the all time greats, but JJ has a chance to be mentioned with the likes of lt or reggie white. He is relentless, physical, with great awareness and technique. Pray we dont see him 1v1 vs marpet or smith because he will make them look silly more often than not. Expect to see alot of stocker trying to help out.

haha, I hope we can call some bootlegs the opposite way from JJ or run that his way. Make him play himself out of the play. Carolina did, why cant we. One thing I did pay attention to is that their right G/ T is injured, so hopefully jack smith has a good day, like the saints game. Arian foster isn’t back neither, so lets hope for a second win. Go bucs.

There it is again…..Jac Smith is the starting RIGHT DE…..which means he goes against the offense’s LEFT Tackle.

George Johnson is the starting LEFT DE……which means he goes against the offense’s RIGHT Tackle.
