Triple Threat In The House
September 4th, 2015Rookie kicker Kyle Brindza made field goals of 55 and 57 yards in his Bucs debut last night.
Joe’s making the easy call. The Notre Dame grad will be your 2015 kicker. But he can do more.
In this Buccaneers.com postgame video, Brindza talks about how he spent two full seasons punting, kicking and being a kickoff specialist in college. Brindza even explains how he practices punting and kicking daily, not alternating days, because that wouldn’t mimic game conditions.
Ironically, Connor Barth similarly made his mark with the Bucs in 2009, tying an NFL record with three field goals of 50 yards or more against the Dolphins.
Barth looked awful last night in his second chance to win the Bucs’ kicking gig after being re-signed last week.
The Bucs’ traded Tim Wright to Detroit for Brindza three days ago.

If the Lions will just release Wright, at the end of the season, the Bucs can sign him so as to trade him for a DE. The next year…

Brindza is a good story! He will score lots of points for the Bucs and hopefully be the offensive rookie of the year!

The Lions rob the bank again from the Bucs! Getting a draft pick from our Dumb and Dumber GM when he didn’t have to, and now giving away talent for a backup kicker they could’ve signed when he was cut!
Nice Geniuses at work at One Buc!”
Don’t quit your day job.

@ Ernest T. Bass
How do you know the Lions didn’t have another trading partner for Brindza…..he may not have made it to the cuts.
Also, I think Wright was on the chopping block anyway.

Here is an option we have with Brindza……even if we keep a kicker & punter….when it comes to individual weeks and going from 53 to 46…..we can opt to go with Brindza only….in particular if we have a need elsewhere….like extra Oline or Dline etc….

This is a good news because if this guy can do all of that it will save us money on the salary cap (lol)

How’s his leg for kickoffs?
September 4th, 2015 at 9:25 am
Impressive FG kicking and kickoffs deep if not out of the endzone. The Bucs have had good kickers, they don’t last too long and another good one steps in. One of the broadcast crew said Brindza was born with a club foot I believe, and had surgeries to correct that. I remember another kicker who had similar condition who turned out to be an excellent kicker, can’t remember his name.

All of Brindza’s kick offs were 8 yards deep in the End zone or better Lord Cornelius. One of them got brought out and ran back for a TD that got called back on a holding penalty. Our kick coverage did not look good at all on that play. Brindza had a chance to stop or slow down the returner and totally whiffed – so he’s not going to win any tackling awards – LOL – but his leg looked strong. Both field goals he made (57 & 55) had PLENTY of leg behind them. Both straight down the middle and both would have been good from 65 yds+.
Barth had 1 kickoff and it was 7-8 yards deep as well.

Now we need to see consistency from Brindza. Bring that every game!

The best kicker in the world is all for naught if the rest of the average [special] teams can’t get down the field and tackle any one especially the one with the ball !!

Is this still a bad trade Joe? I was thinking trading a roster bubble player for a starting kicker and kickoff specialist is solid

What will be even funnier is if Wright gets cut again, and we pick him back up. Then, he will be Tim “Bait” Wright.

Kicker is the one position that playing against backups doesn’t matter. Brindza nailed the spot last night.
Great kickoffs. Great field goals.
He’s got to be our new kicker.
Heck…Lovie was doing the happy dance when he made those field goals.
