Rich Gannon Says Don’t Believe Mariota Hype
September 16th, 2015
Joe’s known for his addiction to SiriusXM NFL Radio, and Joe fed that addiction this afternoon listening to former Super Bowl quarterback Rich Gannon talk about Marcus Mariota.
The chatter came during Gannon looking ahead at Week 2 games.
Simply stated, Gannon is picking the Browns to beat the Titans and proclaimed that the Bucs defense put up such a weak effort against the Titans that nobody should believe Mariota is the quarterback he showed on Tampa field.
In fact, Gannon said he’s picking the Browns overall in the game because he believes Johnny Football, the projected starter for injured Josh McCown, will be able to have success against a weak Titans defense.
Joe’s very interested to see how Mariota and the Titans perform. It might say a lot about the Bucs — in many areas.
September 16th, 2015 at 4:12 pm
Apparently the Bucs defense IS that bad.
The Browns should give MM a dose of reality on Sunday.
Lol…I never thought I’d be talking about how the Browns
defense is that much better than the Bucs defense but here I am.
Go Sucs!
September 16th, 2015 at 4:17 pm
MM is a bust in the waiting. The pee-wee team at half time could have knocked down those passes.
September 16th, 2015 at 4:19 pm
How many days before the Bolts drop the puck??
September 16th, 2015 at 4:30 pm
The haters keep coming. Joe searches for these anti-Mariotta articles to keep his man crush alive in the mind’s of fooled Buc’s fans.
September 16th, 2015 at 4:30 pm
So he says Manziel should have success against a “weak” Tennessee defense…what does that say about Jameis who struggled and without garbage time would have had atrocious numbers against the “weak” Tennessee defense.
Not trying to knock Jameis, just using Gannon’s logic.
September 16th, 2015 at 4:31 pm
Anyone with half a brain and watched that game with an open mind, and not a closed one looking for any reason to bash Winston, could see that that game was more about how bad Tampa’s defense is rather than how great Mariota played. Not taking anything away from the guy, he had a good game for a rookie, made 1 or 2 nice throws but he’s not as good as the stats indicate. Gannon is on point.
Lovie should be embarrised and fired after such a pathetic showing by his defense. It was bad enough we had career back ups having career days on us but now a rookie had a historic outing against us. Completely disgusting. I dont even know if I want to watch what Brees is going to do to us Sunday.
September 16th, 2015 at 4:33 pm
So Gannon thinks that Johnny Football will be that much better against the Titans than Jameis was. Wow, Gannon must have a really low opinion of Jameis Winston
September 16th, 2015 at 4:36 pm
Poor, Poor Joe. Trying to find bad articles about America’s Quarterback, Marcus Mariota, just to try to make his guy Jameis look better. Pitiful
September 16th, 2015 at 4:37 pm
So with out a garbage time TD and ASJ snatching that pick 6 away that set up the first TD Jameis got away with it would have been 42-0. says a lot to me.
September 16th, 2015 at 4:47 pm
That’s because we had a better defense when eric legrand was on the roster
September 16th, 2015 at 4:47 pm
Of course Gannon was also one of the so-called experts that said Jameis was NFL ready. Boy, was he wrong on that one? YEP
September 16th, 2015 at 4:57 pm
Don’t be so tough on Americas Quarterback Marcus Mariota.
September 16th, 2015 at 4:57 pm
The problem with MM is he plays for the titans, which have a bad roster. He’s not Luck who can overcome that, but with the right coaching he should be great. Steve young was traped with a bad roster and you saw what he did in Tampa. MM should be good, but he will struggle when he’s not playing the Bucs…
But don’t believe the pre draft hype eithe, you know how he isn’t nfl ready and he’s not a leader and all that other bs
September 16th, 2015 at 4:58 pm
Couch…I’ll watch for about a 1/2 just like last Sunday when I left the game BEFORE halftime. The first time I ever did such a thing.
September 16th, 2015 at 5:00 pm
Isn’t it ironic how we were the worst team in football, and yet other teams get the easier schedules. Seriously…even the Titans have an easier schedule.
September 16th, 2015 at 5:03 pm

“Couch…I’ll watch for about a 1/2 just like last Sunday when I left the game BEFORE halftime. The first time I ever did such a thing.”
Unless a tornado is heading toward the stadium, there is no excuse for leaving early. If you want a better team, support them through the hard times too.
Anyone who quits has no right to complain about players quitting, that’s certain.
September 16th, 2015 at 5:08 pm
Bonzai…the score was 35-7…were you at the game?
I wasted my money, I can leave whenever I want.
There you go again questioning my fandom.
I think every Buc fan should have left that stadium at half time in protest. I even think fans should boycott game 4 if they continue to get blown out. Just leave your tickets on the counter and stay home.
September 16th, 2015 at 5:13 pm
“Anyone who quits has no right to complain about players quitting, that’s certain.”
That’s for certain huh? If the team doesn’t show up to play a game and look that unprepared why shouldn’t I quit on them? They gave me no reason to stay.
That’s just ludicrous talk. I should stay and watch them get curb stomped some more? No I don’t think so, Homey don’t play that.
September 16th, 2015 at 5:13 pm
My son wanted to leave the restaurant where we were watching the game in the 3rd quarter but I couldn’t do it. I have to watch till the end… There are only 16 of these and I can’t get enough.
September 16th, 2015 at 5:14 pm
Just wait on it.
September 16th, 2015 at 5:16 pm
I would be in for a protest. No one show up to a game! It would never happen.
September 16th, 2015 at 5:17 pm
Ok Gannon….I won’t buy into it….I won’t believe it….when I don’t see him winning games that is.
Than again he was playing against the worst defense in the NFL. Actually the worst defense in North America because you have also consider all of the college, high school and pee wee teams as well. Yep…worst defense in North America.
Is Lovie gone yet?If we beat the Saints Sunday I will quit saying fire Lovie. Until then
Fire Lovie.
September 16th, 2015 at 5:21 pm
@ Buc1987….I agree. Maybe if your team is having a down few seasons. But when it’s a decade of crap and any random fan could put an equally good product on the field as the hired coaches, than quitting as a fan is justified. If they look like that again I won’t watch another game this season until I read things have changed on the radio or in the papers. I won’t even turn on the t.v. I MIGHT listen to the radio to support the HOFF but other than that I will be done if they put another clown show on like they did last weekend.
September 16th, 2015 at 5:22 pm
If we beat the Saints, I will be shocked. I can’t see us moving the ball or stopping Brees. He likes to throw us INTs, so I could see us having good field position. What we do with it, I don’t know??!?!!?
September 16th, 2015 at 5:26 pm
I dont consider not watching, quitting on the team. Do you like watching a bad movie or show? or listening to bad music? There is nothing fun about watching your favorite team get thoroughly dominated repeatedly. It’s torture. I have never in my 20+ years of being a Bucs fan not looked forward to game days until this year. Not even through Rah and Schiano have I ever felt like I didnt want to watch. Thank you Imcompetent Lovie.
September 16th, 2015 at 5:38 pm
By the middle of the third quarter, everybody sitting around us were gone
September 16th, 2015 at 5:51 pm
I watch looking for a competitive game and eventual win. Last week the team struck out on both counts. I kept watching just for the laughs. I joined in at this site for the artillery bombardment, that’s always satisfying to hear the collective thoughts of Bucs fans. Go Bucs fans!
September 16th, 2015 at 5:56 pm
So Gannon believes Manziel is better than Winston. Good to know.
September 16th, 2015 at 6:18 pm
Gannon is an idiot. Mariotta had the benefit of playing against a bad Tampa defense is the excuse everyone is making for the highlight real he put up. Didn’t Tennessee have an awful defense last year. Hmm and Winston looked like a trainwreck. Mariotta looks like the NFL ready QB on day one not Winston. Proving once again analyst are just hype machine, propaganda spewing idiots.
September 16th, 2015 at 6:21 pm
I spent $200 for club seats for my son and I. He is 10 and it was his first game. We were both excited going in. I sat through a miserable first half and was extremely frustrated. My son and I left at the half and I felt like I had been mugged. On top of the money I spent, it sucked to know after 1 game the only thing to look forward to the 2016 draft and most likely the #1 overall pick. Love needs to go now. We all can see that this season is already over.
September 16th, 2015 at 6:34 pm
I’m not going to hype any QB against our defense, even Josh McCown, Derrick Anderson, Austin Davie, Teddy Bridgewater, looked like future hall of famers against our defense. I’m a die hard Buc fan, this is my team to the end. But we have the worst front 4 and the worst secondary in the NFL. How can you stop someone with a weakness on the front end and the back end. You can’t do it, and we have a bunch of rejects on our team.. Players that other team got rid of for lack of production. All I can say is that by year end, Jameis Winston will be a seasonal pro. Because he’s sure to pass the ball 600 times this year, that’s just to give us a chance to win. The positive is that we will give our 21 year old rookie QB lots of experience in reading defenses. No way we can win with a balance attack, unless these rejects on defense decides to man up and play some ball. Lovie is not getting the best of his rejects, Keith Tandy should start at FS and DJ Swearinger should start at SS.
September 16th, 2015 at 6:40 pm
One QB looked overwhelmed with the pro game and one didn’t. I know it’s one game and all but come on. Also I said this all through the draft. Mariota’s ceiling is much higher than Winston’s.
September 16th, 2015 at 6:53 pm
You haters need MM to bust so you don’t feel so stupid. He won’t be perfect this year but he’s no RG3. He will be a good/great pro
September 16th, 2015 at 6:57 pm
Im not happy with the game at all, but it really was just one game. Not sure how Winston will turn out, but I’m not going to make my decision on one game and wish we picked Mariota. When we drafted Winston I was all in…I’m not going to go back on my choice. All aspects of our team sucked, but with Evans in and better blocking on offense will make a difference. Lovies defense…no excuse.
September 16th, 2015 at 6:57 pm
Joe cool your a moron Jamis is the bust and you will lnow what I mean on sunday McCoy Got pushed around Sunday and didn’t show up and he’s a leader this team will not play for lovie for what ever reason and will most likely be his last year bucs need to send a rep to john g house and get on there knees and let him whip it out on the glazers and beg him back
September 16th, 2015 at 7:11 pm
MM will be a good pro and the bucs were blinded by lovies luv for this guy even blew off Dungy when he told him to draft MM and bye the way Joe hada hand in it too and our GM is a yes man with no balls its been one bad move after another and you could see this coming by a mile and a lot of people new it John G stated that MM was the only choice and I agreed and did my best to be positive about jamis but there is no hiding him now he is too immature and not ready for this and MM was supposed to be a project you get what you asked for and the bucs asked for this and the fans are going to have to live with it
September 16th, 2015 at 7:23 pm
Who were the biggest losers Sunday? The fans. Lovie made his mind up on Jameis like he did Mcown last year. Joe praised Lovie this time because it fit his agenda. They and Licht deserve the mess but not us who pay for tickets.
September 16th, 2015 at 7:25 pm
another thing was when Lovie didn’t challenge the touchdown to 83 told the whole story you only as good as who your surrounded by
September 16th, 2015 at 8:08 pm
lovie has proved to us over and over he is a position coach…nothing wrong with that..not everybody is cut out to be a head coach..We’re more than delusional if we think all of sudden we ll wake up and lovie will be this great head coach…outside of football im sure hes a great guy…but as a head coach hes clueless..remember in Chicago he had a pass rush and devin Hester..ZERO offense..look at lovies resume..personally I wanted rex ryan…before he even went to the jets..I dont care what yur system is…you do not let go of a hall of famer especially on a bad team. Revis..lovie took a ok team who was growing and made us worse..All these massive blowouts…if your reading this and have xbox inbox me..gamertag ilg insomniac

Joe,
Really? On MM articles still, the guy you continue to bash?
Where are the positive links and AFC (not rookie) but player of the week honors? Thought we were passed Winston vs. Marcus but you guys keep bringing it up. So far on QB’s you are as qualified to pick someone as your boys from the Bucs covering ESPN . Please stop defending yourself or throw in Johnny Football articles as well.
Where are the article in national coverage about how slow JW was?
It’s one game either way.

Agree, had season tix for over 15 years since I was in college. I left for 3 games 1) Houston a few years ago 2) ravens last year 3) this past week.
I would rather go home jump in the pool and watch some real football. I’m over the bs efforts.
September 16th, 2015 at 9:56 pm
@87 and Patrick
I totally agree that 87 was well within his right to leave at the half as were any Buc fans. And 87 may be the last person here whose fandom I would question.
I suspect his house has a Buc/FSU cave that looks like the prize in that old Warren Sapp commercial.
However I would take just a very small issue with Patrick’s solution.
Just leave your tickets on the counter and stay home.
OR…perhaps a more creative solution…remember when Jerry Glanville left his tickets in willcall for Elvis? That was cool.
And so perhaps we could donate our tickets to..????
September 16th, 2015 at 10:20 pm
The Bucs defense won’t play this bad again this season, they don’t have to face Whisenhunt and Mularkey anymore. They should have a good game against Drew Brees, Sean Payton and the Saints offense. Dirk Koetter and the offense should redeem themselves against the Saints terrible defense.
September 16th, 2015 at 11:05 pm
Lakeland
I HOPE you are right. Still having trouble keeping the faith after Sunday but stranger things have happened, and the Aints are not what they used to be.
September 16th, 2015 at 11:08 pm
Browns have a good pass defense….not as good in their run d’. plus their is tape out from week one.
September 17th, 2015 at 10:19 am
There you go acting like my mother in law again Joe grabbing at straws to say you are right and protecting your precious “Jamarcus Winston”.
