“Nowhere To Turn”

September 16th, 2015
Has Lovie painted himself into a corner?

Has Lovie painted himself into a corner?

Joe just has to link to an article that used the word “plague” in the second paragraph when it comes to the current miserable state of the Bucs.

And who else to use such a word than hand-grenade-tosser, ornery Alan Dell of the Bradenton Herald.

Dell, like Joe, witnessed the Titanic debacle Sunday and Dell was equally galled by the effort (or, lack thereof) and lack of preparation.

It appears the only thing the Bucs’ defense was prepared for was standing for the National Anthem.

Dell blasts Bucs brass and secondarily, Bucs coach Lovie Smith, who Dell believes has painted himself in a corner where there is scant escape.

“We have to be more physical,” defensive end George Johnson said. “They came in here and out-physicaled us. They were willing to come in here and do whatever they had to do. We didn’t have that same mindset and it kind of showed on the field and the scoreboard.”

The Bucs couldn’t find motivation after going 0-8 at home last year.

Meanwhile, Lovie was in a catch-22. If he credited Marcus Mariota for the Titans’ 42-14 debacle over the Bucs, he is saying the franchise picked the wrong guy. If he blames it on the defense, he is criticizing himself because the Bucs defense is his baby.

Dell goes on to type if this embarrassing pattern of beatdowns continues, he doesn’t believe Team Glazer will be swayed by the size/length of Lovie’s contract to make a move.

Sort of like the lesson Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht said he learned from Bill Belicheat years ago: Admit your mistake and move on.

Now Joe isn’t pimping a coaching change. Far from it (yet). To do so after one game is asinine.

Again, as Lovie said earlier this week, it is just one game; the first of 16. But the terrible, shameful way the Bucs defense — Lovie’s defense — didn’t show up and threw in the towel after one play, well, this situation bears monitoring, especially when the defensive-minded head coach is 2-15 and counting.

    @Glazers

Take some of what Licht learned from Bellichick and cut your losses now!!!!!……. #Venting

  2. Scott Says:

Koetter for HC. Schwartz for DC !!

  3. Getaclue Says:

Lovie isn’t demanding, Raheem Morris was more demanding. He is like eyore from Winnie the pooh.

  4. Ray Rice Says:

Being a die hard I still have faith no matter what. Since he was drafted, I’ve said all along the Jameis will lead this franchise back to the promise land. I’ve also said it may not be soon but he will. In addition, the Glazers need to seriously meet with Lovie and tell his a$$ like it is. Losses are hard to take. But A$$ Whoopings are hard to forget. #RIDEORDIE

  5. Getaclue Says:

At least Raheem and schiano took ownership when it didn’t go right lovie is the same broken records. We have good football players we just didn’t play good football blah blah every damn week

  6. Scott Says:

Watching the BB “do you job” special on NFL Network and I see why we are the bottom dwellers of the league. Doing the same crap over and over again does not work. Need to be intuitive now a days

  7. Ernest T. Bass Says:

Every year there are guys with red flags who enter the draft. They had always dropped, some drop a little some drop a lot. This was the first year someone with a ton of red flags went number one!

Al Davis fell in love with JaMarcus because he threw 50 yards on his knees. Lovie and Jason fell in love with Shameis after seeing him throw 60 yards at the combine against no rush or defense.

Lessoned learned don’t ignore red flags and its not all about how far you can throw.

  8. tdtb2015 Says:

Yes indeed! WE ARE 2-15 and COUNTING!

We should not detach last season’s standings, if we are still playing the same lousy defense of last year!

    I LOST TRUST IN Lovie!

My condolences goes out to season ticket holders and all attendees last Sunday. You did not deserved that experience! They owe you a refund!

  9. mike Says:

I was at the game and before the game hung out in the lounge. it was a great place to be! I saw the Glazer brother and they were all smiles, shaking hands, and have to be pumped. They had to be pissed and embarassed by halftime. If the bucs return home 0-3, the stadium will be half full and quiet… i would think Lovie would be in serious , serious trouble at that point.

  10. The Buc Realist Says:

I just don’t know if this is rock bottom, But this is the lowest I have seen my fellow Buc fans!!!

Lovie says it is just 1 game??? I F that BS!! its just 1 Head Coach!!! we can lose without Lovie at this point!!! I just want to see effort!! And that is something I have not seen since Lovie took over this team as Head Coach/GM 1 year and 9 months ago!!!

  11. mac Says:

Coaches who cannot win at least 25% of their games should be fired without any garunteed money!!!

Why should Lovie get paid millions and millions of dollars for being horrible?

Where is the pressure to preform? He is getting bank regardless of how many games he losses…

    This guy sucks!!!

  12. Buc1987 Says:

If the Bucs are 0-5 with a couple of blowouts in those 5 games and Lovie loses to the Jags at home, then I think he’s toast midseason.

Yes I know the Glazers have never fired someone midseason. But Lovie’s getting blown out and his team looks unprepared, like they’re just going through the motions out there and waiting for the game to end. Reminds me of Raheem 2011 and I don’t see anything that makes me think they’re correcting it.

  13. Buc1987 Says:

Correct Realist..no effort at all and no adjusting. More Glazer money pissed down the drain for nothing.

  14. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    This is pointless……

  15. BucTrooper Says:

    It’s not ONE game, JOE.

    It’s 17 games.

This team has NEVER looked prepared. Ever. IT’S like they’ve never seen a football game before.

Joe Flacco’s 3-step drop was astrophysics to this coach.

  16. CAN'T FIX IT Says:

I seen the Glazer’s after the game and they where drunk and ready to kill Lovie Smith.. I believe they was making a plan to have Lovie thrown in the Bay Today some time……. Lovie couldn’t find his a$$ with a hand full of fishing hooks !!! FIRE HIM , BEFORE ITS TO LATE !!!

  17. bucrightoff Says:

It’ll be interesting to see if they fire Lovie but keep Licht. I can’t see it happening, but it’d be pretty curious if they did.

  18. tdtb2015 Says:

If the defense does not show up in the next 4 games, Lovie will show us the his definition of “BYE” WEEK!

  19. TheShaz Says:

Short of a stunning turn around……..

A head coaching change is in order. We will find out very quickly if Lovie has lost the locker room or not.

I saw what I expected out of the offense. Heck, even the PICK 6 was expected, not on the 1st throw mind you….but I was being honest with myself. Rookie QB, with a rebuilt O-line of castoffs and rookies. And #1 WR out.

Its the defense that totally shocked me. We should have known by week 3 of the Preseason. The 3rd game is normally the dress rehearsal and the starters play the most.

Luke McClown went up and down the field on the Bucs defense for crying out loud. Think about that for a sec. You will see Mariota struggle as a rookie should in the next few weeks as he faces real defenses. If a wet nosed rookie does this to the Bucs defense, what do you think a veteran like Drew Brees is going to do?

The only good news in this…….By the end of the season Winston should have plenty of time to work on the passing game because the team will be behind on the scoreboard early and often. By the end of the season he should have most of the kinks worked out.

The Saints are a division opponent, they didn’t look all that good last week (better than the Bucs, but they still got the “L”). Drew looks like he lost a step.

If the Bucs go 0-2 or worse 0-3 and beyond, start looking at DE’s in college because the Bucs will have a top 3 pick in next years draft…..along with a new HC.

  20. Lord Cornelius Says:

“I just don’t know if this is rock bottom, But this is the lowest I have seen my fellow Buc fans!!!”

At this point I’m in the lowest depths of hell with you my brethren. I hope Lovie can somehow prove to us he deserves to be an NFL HC over the next few games because I’m all for firing him at the bye week if this continues.

Watching games like that make you wonder why we even care about sports this much lol. I felt like an absolute idiot for going to a bar to watch it and for being so optimistic and excited.

  21. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I live in Bradenton…and I NEVER waste my time with Alan Dell. He is a horrible reporter.

  22. Buc1987 Says:

Lord Cornelius …I knew you’d come back to the comment section once the season started. The Bucs just had to give you a reason to join us negative crowd. It’s why I’m going into every season from now on not expecting much. Like I told SPBF when I made my 4-6 wins tops prediction. I have to see the product before I’m buying it. We all saw the product on Sunday, some of us saw it live and want a refund. I stopped believing a damn word anyone on this team says about midseason of last year. I’m not buying a damn word any of them say, coaches or players. Show me on the field.

  23. Buc1987 Says:

Bonzai…my brother in Sarasota says the same thing.

  24. CAN'T FIX IT Says:

BUT ALAN DELL IS RIGHT ON THIS ONE ,,FIRE LOVIE SMITH BEFORE ITS TO LATE !!!

  25. salish_seamonster Says:

Joe may not be pimping a coaching change yet, but this Bucs fan is. Many others are too. I gave Lovie a pass last year due to a transitional period and the unfortunate Tedford situation. I’m very forgiving. However, after going 2-14, if you come out and lay a deuce in the home opener the following year, it says something very damning about you as a head coach. Something isn’t right. Dan Quinn got the Falcons ready to beat Philly out of the gate. Is Atlanta that much more talented than the Bucs? No. Lovie’s defensive scheme is not going to win anymore, and his laid back style is apparently not lighting a fire in the players’ bellies. It’s time for a change, because they’re going nowhere with Lovie.

  26. Joe Cool Says:

    BOSA FTW!

  27. Joe Says:

Lovie and Jason fell in love with Shameis after seeing him throw 60 yards at the combine against no rush or defense.

    Nice guess but dead wrong.

  28. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

    😊Just wait on it.

  29. The Dom Must Go Says:

Bring back the BLACK OUT rule! this team is unwatchable

  30. BrianBucs Says:

“If he credited Marcus Mariota for the Titan’s 42-14 debacle over the Bucs, he is saying that the franchise picked the wrong guy” YEP

  31. Buc1987 Says:

Well the only way to handle this season and still remain a Buc fan is to embrace the suck. Just like every other season. You really have to have nerves of steel or be a glutton for punishment to be a Bucs fan.

  32. Buc1987 Says:

Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun…..wait on what? The firing?

  33. John McKillop Says:

@Buc1987 This defense has the look and feel of guys that don’t trust and believe in this system, I don’t see it getting any better. I hope I am wrong, we will find out over the next few weeks.

  34. Buc1987 Says:

John McKillop..The thing I wonder about is if fans have given up hope and don’t believe in anything Lovie is doing or saying. Are the players in the same boat?

  35. Charlie V Says:

It’s not just “one game” and it’s not just “season opener” it’s 17 games!!!

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

  36. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Buc1987

He is waiting on…… Amazon, he ordered a bunch of Paper Bags to wear and hand out,,,, but he chose the free shipping!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!

  37. CC Says:

    In Lovie We Bust !

  38. salish_seamonster Says:

The LLR plan is in effect – Lose for Lovie’s Replacement.

  39. NewTampaChris Says:

It’s only one game but, my god, it was a brutal beat-down at home versus the second-worst team from last year. And we had the whole off-season to get ready? I don’t think that it’s a stretch to say that given the competition, it was absolutely the worst-case scenario. (Injuries aside.)

  40. BrianBucs Says:

    1987

“Embrace The Suck” – I LIKE IT!. We all need the T-Shirt

  41. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    87

Hey we agree on something. If Lovie loses to the Jags at home he’ll be 0-5 and it’s right before the bye week..the perfect time to make a change. Interim HC will have two weeks to get ready…good luck that’s when we get to the tough teams on our schedule.

O-5 with a loss to another Florida teams that arguably is as bad as us and I’m not sure RayJay wouldn’t riot. Perhaps literally as in throwing stuff at the field and the players as they exit. They’ll have to install one of those tarps like they have at hockey arenas to keep the players safe as they enter and exit the tunnel.

  42. iamabuc Says:

I’ve been thinking the same , there’s seem to be something brewing in that locker room, ours best players are not even showing up in games, and look uninterested , like in a “f_ck-it” kinda mood. WTF!

  43. BucFan20 Says:

No. Just wait on the next story so he can post the same thing again.

  44. Howard Cosell Says:

    Fire Gruden
    Fire Allen
    Promote Dom
    Hire Morris
    Fire Morris
    Hire Schiano
    Fire Schiano
    Fire Dom
    Hire Smith
    Hire Licht

ALL OF THIS IN THIS SOULLESS MISMANAGEMENT IN THE SPACE OF 5 YEARS!!!

Come on Glazers supporters. Lets hear your defense.

  45. destro44 Says:

I’m sick and tired of hearing “its just one game” to hell with that this isn’t baseball you don’t play 182 games. NCAA uses the motto every game matters, because they do. I don’t care if we lose games because a call went against us, we lost on a late score, or the other team is just plain better. I can’t accept a team that doesn’t care or loses because they can’t get in the mindset to try at least as hard as the other team. And the fact that no player on the team has called out names to hold his teamates accountable for this debacle is frustrating.

  46. Howard Cosell Says:

Glazer shill 1: “We should be happy that we played a part in the Glazers becoming billionaires”

Glazer shill 2: “New stadium, Superbowl and practice facility”

Glazer shill 3: “You better watch your back Howard”

Anyone who references the library of my comments here will see that I love and respect Malcolm.”

  47. FireLovieNow Says:

It is not “just one game”… it is 17 games wherein Lovie has gone 2-15, 0-9 at home AND the Bucs just lost 42-14 to the second worse team in the NFL from a year ago! In other words, the record if AWFUL and there is no improvement. Quit hiding behind this “it’s just one game” BS… it is 17 games, 15 of which have been losses. How many times do you have to get hit in the head before you realize you are in a fight??

  48. BirdDoggers Says:

The one thing I kept hearing about Lovie when he was hired to coach the Bucs was that if he was good at anything, it was his ability to get his team ready to play hard on Sundays. He had two complete meltdown games last season (Falcons, Ravens) and started this season with a meltdown game. If Lovie lost his ability to get his team prepared, what else is left?

  49. Aubpierce Says:

If the Bucs don’t win Sunday Lovie should not be allowed to board the plane.Enough already.
