Let Mallett Throw

An NFL analyst seems to think the best way to defend the Texans is to let Houston QB Ryan Mallett throw early and often.
A common theme among defensive coordinators is that they want to turn an offense into a one-dimensional force.
That way, it is predictable.
But when you turn an offense into a one-trick pony, and that pony really has no tricks, you’ve shut down an offense.
That may be what the Bucs will want to do this week — Texans week. It is all about Houston this week. And if NFL analyst Cian Fahey of Football Outsiders is correct, Texans quarterback Ryan Mallett is an awful thrower of the football.
Therefore, if the Bucs shut down the running attack of Houston, then it may just render Houston hopeless, as Fahey broke down last week’s Stinking Panthers-Texans game.
@Cianaf: First quarter was rough for Mallett. Asked to throw the ball A LOT. Bad decisions, at times awful accuracy and just a one-speed thrower.
Joe has to be honest; it is early in the season. While it was fun to watch the Bucs squeak out a win over the Saints at the Superdome, the Saints are not a good team. Joe doesn’t know if the defensive line of the Bucs has suddenly risen from the dead or if New Orleans has that rotten of an offensive line.
But Mallett is no Drew Brees, not even an equal to Brees when Brees has a bum shoulder. And Mallett is about as mobile as his name suggests. So the offense of the Texans very well could be playing right into the hands of the Bucs.

I’ve heard folks all summer say the Buccs are not a good team. What constitutes a good team is my question? Remove Brady,who are the Pats. Remove Big Ben what are the Steelers? Rodgers up there in cheese city man just wait on it. Every team has some talent. But when a team has very little at Qb and your team is showing promise on defense and you have some competency at QB y’all should win most of those encounters. We’ll leave out of Texas with yet another road vic and folks round here will start changing they’re season’s record predictions just wait on it.

Who is the backup for Carolina that beat us TWICE last year? He is no Drew Brees either. Hopefully we have actually improved and Sunday wasnt a fluke.

Bucs never seem to match up well with the more physical grind it out teams. The little five yard passes eliminate pass rush and poke holes in any zone coverage. Let’s hope win can win a low scoring game.

What’s the word on Arian Foster? This should be an easy victory, as long as we keep Watt at bay, but if Foster plays, that changes what the Texans can do offensively.

It’s sad but any team has a chance against this defense. It all depends on who decides to play hard and also if Lovie steps on the gas hard and doesn’t let up. I wish we would get 4 quarters of hard nose football. Let Doug run it down their throats hard, than let Winston pick apart that defense, assuming the o line gives him time, give your players a chance to shine and I promise this team won’t have many close games. This coach needs to quit being stubborn and make adjustments on ganeday. Come prepared for once please.

Tampa 2 will live as long as the players earn their money on Sundays. It was obvious a players only meeting was needed to regroup the troops. All must stay on their assignments and work as a unit. Last Sunday was a beautiful thing.
The meeting of the defensive players along with solid execution Sunday allowed me regain my trust in Lovie.
It truly was promising to see what Lovie has been preaching finally come to fruition this season in a real game.
I’ll be ok with some speed bumps here and there. But, I really don’t want to experience any more blowouts to our defense.
Lets get the next one Buccaneers!

Because Lovie is constantly Building and telling everyone “it takes time” (after he told the Fans in the pre-season to not be patient) He could be missing his windows for success.

The Bucs are not at the stage where you can expect a win from them….at least not yet.
Blown out at home vs a team they should have beat week 1.
Win on the road against a division opponent that has owned the Bucs the last few seasons on week 2.
What does week 3 bring? No damn clue. But I cannot sit here and say “Bucs should win” and it will be like that all season.
Defense played very well last week. I saw the baby step improvement from Jameis and the offense. The only concrete thing I can take from two weeks…..Bucs got a kicker.

Signing Nick O leary would be on time right about now. We should sign o leary and let him flank between tight end and plus he would be big time for developing towards the future because they’re not gonna keep Stocker and Myers after their contracts run out. Part of the success Luck had was benefiting from playing with a college teammate that he trusted. O leary would make Jason Licht a ROCKSTAR Gm . The bucs have to also consider this as a move to shore up blocking as well because Lane is nice and all but they’re not going to keep him either after his deal is up this year.

It’s sad but any team has a chance against this defense.
Actually if that’s sad then the entire league is sad because as the saying goes..”on any given Sunday”. MG8 beat Seattle in their SB year in their house..oops I forgot “Toes on the line” choked that one away. MG8 DID beat Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh last year.
The league is so balanced that frequently games turn on a single play. Have we learned how to win games. Is this team tougher. This is one area where it’s undeniable that #3 has already made a difference. Whether it’s blocking a DL in week one or that spin move against one of the best DB’s in the league #3 has set an example!!! He is not going to lose as readily as the previous heartless collection of players we have witnessed. I do not think Kwon or Marpet will go down without a major fight. This attitude seems to be rubbing off on some of the vets as well.
Let’s be honest. Nobody knows what will happen Sunday but at least we now have a group to cheer, good guys with some heart and fire.

So many times last year our defense lost to qb’s they were “supposed” to beat. Lets see some concistency before we start proclaiming which qb’s this defense should handle. So far our defense beat RG3 and an injured Brees on the third try. I wont count the Stillers because really, the offense bailed out a poor defensive showing. But lets start beating guys like Mallet and Bortles and Cousins before we expect to beat anyone. Thats how I see it. Concistency is growth.

Strong Buc defense. Stop their “running game”, pick up takeaways, great special teams, focus on our running game and have Winston be accurate with minimal throws. 21 throws last week was just right. As opposed to 59 throws for Mallet. (Remember when Griese threw 66 times when Bucs played Chicago 10 years ago?

This is totally a winnable game for the Bucs, IF they come out ready to play on defense and the offense is going to have to spread the ball around to more different receivers with ASJ out. V-Jax has been consistent but it would really be nice to get ME 13 back into the mix. Hope that hammy does not cause problems all season. As far as our victory over the Saints being discredited on any level and the Saints being called a bad team, well the Texans are 0-2 and are not exactly world beaters. We just need to get protection for Winston and Marpett versus Watt will be a critical match up. I think Marpett being as physically strong as he is, will bode well against Watt’s tremendous physical strength but Watt has the experience and technique on his side. Koetter should try to get the run game going and devise plays to get the ball out of Winston’s hands quicker and have some roll outs to move the pocket and by him some more time. I think we win a low scoring game this week and shock the NFL with a 2-1 start. Also, something to consider in determining how bad the Saints are, is that they played Arizona tough at Arizona who happens to be 2-0 and is a good football team. Then they played an inspired Bucs team with a chip on their shoulders after being embarrassed. I think the pressure on Brees and the resulting shoulder problems he was having made a big difference in the final score of that game. So, the Saints may not be as bad as people are wanting to say, so lets give the Bucs some credit in that victory. I would rather have the division win than to have beat the Titans and lost to the Saints, so it is all good.

The first three opponents the Bucs play in 2015 have yet to win a game except for the Titans shellacking the Bucs in game 1. All of them are rated 26th or worse in any of the various “power rankings”. Yes, Jameis and the Bucs defense played much better in game two (frankly almost impossible NOT to), but that was probably the worst game I have ever seen Drew Brees play. And even MG8 put up more points and better numbers last year, against a better and healthier Saints’ defense.

how bad is Mallett? is he shaun hill\derek anderson bad or is he rookie-making-his-first NFL start bad? if the former he may only throw for a 75% completion rate and just a TD or two. if the latter, well, he’s not bad enough.

I’m not always on Lovies bandwagon, but if he can win this game and get the momentum of being 2-1…that will be a good thing. I don’t always like the way he talks..but actions speak louder than words. To see our coaches put in a good game plan and execute it will put some faith back into the fan base and put us in the right direction. Guys,..so called fans will always find a way to be negative,…but winning that will cure everything. Are we there yet? I doubt it, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t headed in the right direction. It truly sucks if ASJ can’t play for a couple of week, but it will be a great thing if M. Evans is 100%. We need Doug to be 2012 Doug. If our defense plays like the last game then maybe Lovie is the guy for the job. The guy has been to the playoffs and the SB. We needed a proven winner…well for now we are stuck with Lovie. Like him or not..i’m giving him a chance. Go Bucs!
