“Growing Chance” For Josh Freeman

September 3rd, 2015

It used to be all about No. 5 in Tampa.

Josh Freeman was the guy. He was the 22-year-old, do-it-all quarterback who lit up the NFL with 25 touchdowns and just six interceptions for a winning Bucs team in 2010.

Freeman, 27, is now fighting for a job with the Dolphins after a full year out of football.

But it’s been a different version of Freeman. Nobody is calling him leaky or sleepy in Miami. He was first signed by the Dolphins five months ago and there have been no peeps about Freeman’s work ethic, or any wacky rumors.

Freeman has been a fourth-string QB and is now third-string.

Palm Beach Post Dolphins writer Andrew Abramson believes Freeman could move up and win the backup job tonight against the Bucs.

Moore, a former Dolphins starter and once considered a premier second-stringer, has struggled all preseason. In three games, he has 166 passing yards, one touchdown, two interceptions and a 50.8 passer rating.

Freeman, a former first-round pick for Tampa Bay, hasn’t been much better with 167 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions and a 63.8 passer rating.

But Freeman had his best game of the preseason last week against Atlanta with a 95.8 rating. And since a major Tannehill injury likely would crush the Dolphins’ playoff hopes regardless of the backup, Miami could factor in the $1 million in savings if Freeman beats out Moore.

Joe has watched every Freeman snap this preseason, and Joe will say that while Freeman doesn’t like a quality starter, he certainly has played better than his stats. And his mobility and poise in the pocket is there.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens tonight against the Bucs.

Joe wishes Freeman well, but it might be nice to see Schiano-man safety Keith Tandy pick him off a couple of times, or watch Da’Quan Bowers sack him to the turf and knock him out of the game. The poetry would be too good.

I do not wish this guy any luck at all. I do wish this was in RJS so we could show him our “appreciation” of how he lied and blamed everyone as he burned every bridge on his way out!

I would love to hear the stands chant LIAR, LIAR, LIAR!!!! everytime he is near RJS!!!!!

The kid is a punk and deserves every bad thing that happens to him!!!!!

  2. Warren Says:

This is going to rub a few fans the wrong way but it’s a meaningless game so screw it. I hope Free puts up some good numbers against us and gets the job. Never fell for all the crap people said about the guy (drugs etc), though the missed meetings and constant lateness was idiotic in the extreme.

“But Freeman had his best game of the preseason last week against Atlanta with a 95.8 rating.”

4/5 for 35 yards in the 4th qtr? HA.

  4. ChanEpic Says:

Buc Realist – wow that’s about 20lbs of hate in a 10lb bag. Well done.

  5. The Buc Realist Says:

    @ChanEpic

Like I have always said, You can be a bust and the fans would have still rooted for a guy and to get chances for redemption. But to be a Liar and point the finger and try to drag everything down with him is unacceptable and intolerable!!!!!

The sad thing is, that not even 1/3 of all transgression of what Jfro-6pak has done ,has not even been guessed by Bucs fans!!!!

  6. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

I’m fairly up on NFL news, and I still seemed to have missed the conclusion of the NFLPA investigation re: the Freeman leaks.

    We all know what happened.

Same way that we all know what caused the drastic weight loss.

  7. ChanEpic Says:

Buc Realist – I would have killed for the Bucs to be on Hard Knocks during that last Freeman Season.

  8. Bucco Brice Says:

judging by last week…Freeman likely lights it up…payback for the QB again 🙁

  9. OklahomaBucFan Says:

I’m in a different party. I don’t wish this guy any ill will. I hope he pulls it together and even starts again somewhere. He gave us one great season in 2010 and some great moments. And besides, everyone deserves a reboot.

  10. Buccfan37 Says:

At least Freeman didn’t get to play in these fancy new Buc uniforms with the psycho weird numbers.

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Freeman is history, gone, departed, terminated, through, finished, vanished, elsewhere, SYONARA, ADIOS, AU-REVOIR, Auf WIEDERSHEN, CHEERIO, ADJO, ANTIO, DO SVIDANIYA, HASTA LA VISTA, BYE-BYE…. SO LONG Of course, Schiano would say CAIO!!!

  12. The Buc Realist Says:

    @ChanEpic

Not A chance you would have seen the video, the rockstar would have buried that like he did the fact that Jfro-6 pack had racked up over 6 figures of fines during the 2011 season!!!!!

  13. Vincente Says:

Go get em Free! I don’t believe any of this crap people say about you. I see potential and your gonna do great in Miami. Play hard man. Good Luck!

  14. StPeteBucsFan Says:

@Realist Don’t want to frighten you or anything but I agree completely with your Freeman take.

@Bucfan37 Yes these uniforms are just putrid. And I don’t know the NFL rules but I believe we are stuck with them for awhile since changes are limited to keep teams from simply making everybody’s jersey’s obsolete every year.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens tonight against the Bucs.

Warning to all. This is a meaningless game other than determining the bottom of our roster. But we saw last week how McClown certainly did not view the game with us as meaningless…stupidly diving head first for a first down when the Browns other QB is out. Truly brain dead from a team point of view. But clearly Josh wanted that game!!!

I’m not sure JFro won’t come into this contest with the same attitude as Josh last week. He may feel the need to show us all he didn’t really suck.

I’ll be curious if he can use that cannon to hit the side of a barn consistently or if he still throws a 50yard thing of beauty only to come back and throw a swing pass to a back into the ground four yards short.

  15. buc4life1979 Says:

    @Realist
On the Jfro deal, your honest cynicism, is spot on… J-fro and his 6 figure fines along with Winslow and the black adderol briefcase…ever think the Rockstar had some local mob contacts?? He sure did a gr8 job of burying things….about as good a job as the local media did with looking the other way.

  16. BuckLuck208 Says:

@ The Buc Realist- it’s just a game dude.

The kid is a punk and deserves every bad thing that happens to him!!!!!

  17. rayjay1122 Says:

The way we made Mclown look….Freeman will be a lock to make the Dolphins roster after playing us tonight. LOL

  18. pick6 Says:

what rayjay said. i don’t know about the TDs or INTs it’s safe to say Josh’s completion percentage will hover in the 75-80% range and he will have a pretty comfortable pocket. we have alot of DEs still to audition, i assume if any of them actually make josh sweat a little bit he probably earns a roster spot

  19. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @RayJay

    That’s funny!

  20. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Yet another former Bad and or fomer Buc QB set to torch us tonight.

  21. Dreambig Says:

This will be kind of interesting tonight. Josh Freeman vs Mike Glennon.
You would expect after last weeks disaster that the Bucs after being yelled at for such a complete lack of effort should be trying a bit harder this week but you never know.

  22. JMN Says:

Freeman hosed this franchise and set us back years. I will not root for someone who scorned by beloved Bucs like he did.

  23. JAB83 Says:

I’m rooting for Florida to win tonight!!!

  24. DoNUTS Says:

Can we get back to focusing on the BUCS and their poor OL/DL?

Josh made a lot of mistakes but let it rest. Realist come down off the Sunshine Skyway already man. Relax its just a game on Sunday and it will not affect your life unless you let it. If he makes another team, then good for him. I wont be surprised if he lights up this “Loving” D for 3TDs and 250 yards passing.

  25. Maze Says:

    Who cares

  26. rdbucfan Says:

    So Joe,

Throwing 25 td’s against 6 picks is ok for your Franchise QB (your words even the week he was benched, it’s in the archives) is something your proud of from a player that tried to take down this franchise (which you claim to love) and 19 td’s to 9 int’s can’t be mentioned about a rookie QB. I get it Mike Glennon must have made a move on Rachel Watson or something for you to hate him so much that you still pine for Freechild

  27. Couch Fan Says:

I hope Kwan is playing so I can see him hit Freeman as hard as he hit McCown saturday. And of course a pick 6 on Freewee. For old times sake of course.

  28. Buccfan37 Says:

Couch… Yeah, just one hard lick to remind Freeman what some Bucs fans think of him. Like you said for old times sake.

  29. Warrenfb12 Says:

Nah man. Like freeman. Unfortunately things went bad…feel bad for the guy really. He was our last glimpse at legitimate exciting football. Think things just shook out poorly for him. What if he was drafted by a legitimate head coach to start with? Maybe his future would be different. Circumstances man…
