“He’s Not Going To Give You No Day Off, No Play Off.”
September 24th, 2015The numbers on Bucs right tackle Gosder Cherilus facing Texans defensive lineman J.J. Watt don’t look pretty.
Rick Stroud brought them up this morning on WDAE-AM 620. The longtime Bucs beat writer said Cherilus allowed eight sacks to Watt in their five meetings when Cherilus played for the Lions and Colts. And keep in mind Watt often moves around along the defensive line, but as Joe noted yesterday Watt is sticking to left defensive end so far this year. That puts Cherilus and Watt in a head-to-head battle.
Cherilus spoke to media yesterday at One Buc Palace and was advised that Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback, said months ago that he couldn’t wait to face J.J. Watt.
“Jameis is not facing him,” Cherilus said. “I wish he didn’t say that, (laughs).”
Cherilus, a veteran of 102 NFL starts, went on to say he’s still getting to know the Buccaneers system after arriving late in training camp. He didn’t start with the first-team offensive line in preseason.
Hear the full chat with Cherilus via the 620wdae.com audio player below.

This makes me very nervous. At least Cherilus played much better in the second game versus the first. Be a minor miracle if we hold Watt to 1 sack.

When does Dotson return? I’m grateful for Cherilus but he’s a bit of a liability. I hope this is the week it “clicks” for him.
Screen passes, move the pocket around and send doggie up the A hole. Ha the A hole. Hehe

Get ready for even more holding penalties!!!

I don’t think that Goz will be on his own with Watt. TE’s..RB’s..there’ll be plenty of help. And of course Koetter hopefully has some plays to take advantage of Watt’s aggressiveness. And of course a really good running game will take care of the problem.

Go two TEs all game in case he moves around and run the ball all day with Double Duece & Sims.

@Joe
I thought it was brought up that Watt has been playing mostly at RDE this year?
I’m confused.

Put a fullback on him to block him, along with an offensive lineman?

Gosder Cherilus and JJ Watt have some history. I like it! In the fourth quarter of the Houston Texans’ 25-3 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, Colts right tackle Gosder Cherilus got caught punching Texans defensive end J.J. Watt in the ribs. Cherilus was fined $7,875 for striking an opponent with his fists. If Watt stays on the left side, the Bucs are going to get after him with Cherilus, Marpet and Stocker.

If they were smart, they would line Watt up against D. Smith. JJ Watt could set the single season sack record by halftime if they chose to do so.

@bucsbeddabest
Thanks for that tidbit. Makes it more interesting to watch what unfolds Sunday.

I wish these guys would stop using double negatives when they speak… When they speak to the media they are representative of the team… If they sound ignorant then the Bucs looks worse then they already are…
He not going to give you no day off…

This is going to be a very very slow game, lots of punts lots of penalties, bucs win 10-6

OK Joe, we get it. The O line will have its hands full. Now let’s see an article about Houston’s line having its hands full with the Bucs defense. The DLine of the Bucs could have another field day.

Wow, doubly negative… Punch him in the gut, Gos!!
