Gerald McCoy Talks “Finish”
September 21st, 2015Remember how Buccaneers officials talked a lot this offseason about all those close games the team played in 2014, all those tight losses?
Gerald McCoy talked about them today.
McCoy jumped on PFT Live on NBC Sports Radio and was asked by host Mike Florio what the Bucs need to do to be one of the teams jockeying for a playoff spot come December.
The Bucs’ captain didn’t talk about takeaways, or touchdowns. He immediately referenced “consistency” and “finishing,” figuring out how to finish games when the opening is there to slam the door in the fourth quarter (or sooner).
“Yesterday we were able to finish the game out. Last year, we did not do that,” McCoy said.
“You just have to do it. That’ll completely change our outcome and our record at the end of year. Hopefully, we get in those playoffs.”
Last Monday, McCoy was talking about emergency players-only meetings to review basics of defensive positioning.
Now he’s talking playoffs. Joe loves the roller coaster of the NFL season. Greatest sport on earth.

I love GMC, but when can we get more coverage on the DL’s true superstar Jack Smith? THAT guy has been beasting since he joined the Bucs and I’d love for Joe to give us more from that guy.

Now when the offense can learn not to almost fumble away the game; they will be on to something.

They finished, limping and just barely. That’s still a heck of a lot better than last year. I’m a happy Buc today.

Playoffs would be stunning outcome. I still say 6-10 is realistic and anything above that is gravy. Playoffs would leave me stunned…. In a good way! 😁

Keep those meetings going McCoy & David!
If the meeting helped dot the i(s) & cross your t(s), then keep them going!
The defense was prepared yesterday! Maybe the defensive problems was not Lovie.
Whatever worked last week must be develop into a habit.
Go Bucs!

I say the Defense (barely) finished bc mr. Ice cream himself didn’t not finish as usual. I would add that McCoy should have .5 sack at best if not the entire sack should have gone to Melton as he was tackling Brees first. I will conclude by saying that McCoy should focus on NOT jumping offsides (as usual) than anything else. Of course he was not called for offsides even though he and two others jumped (as usual).
I for one am excited to see what the dline looks like while McCoy is healing up (as usual).

DB55-
Melton was so late on that hit on Brees it could have easily drawn a flag. McCoy split the double team and it was clearly his sack. He also PD and 3 solo one for TFL and last week he should have gotten the sack fumble that would have put the Bucs right back in the game. The guy is having a great season so far and you want to rag him for missing a few snaps at the end of the game due to an injury? I love LVD, Evans, VJax and Jameis but McCoy is by far the best player on this team. Where have you read that he will be out for games due to the injury? I haven’t seen that at all.

The only reason Jac smith was able to get 3 sacks was because GMC was beasting it in the middle freeing up the other lineman. playing 3-tech isnt always glorious, his effect is felt in other players stats. and man he did good yesterday.
Anyone else notice the lack of pressure after he left late in the game?

Go GMC! 🙂

I have to disagree, Melton was at brees’s ankles then McCoy lept over Melton. They should have shared the sack. And no I haven’t seen anyone mention that he’s out I just figured since he couldn’t walk off the field on his own power due to an injured arm (smh) and caused us a timeout that he was really hurt. But then again what do I know?!?!?!?
September 21st, 2015 at 9:05 pm
He’s talking finish, he really can’t be serious, he was on the sideline with a not so serious injury and had the tv nation thinking his arm was broken. Seriously Gerald you are a hell of a player but you also need a shrink.Dude Seriously you were fine to go back in that Game !! Stop It , this why Ian Beckles calls u out ,he has been around full of crap teammates before and the worst ones to be around are the most talented.Gerald please keep up the good play but we need some big plays from you on the last two drives and that means all out play for 10 to 12 plays in the fourth quarter. Not your famed shoot the gap away from the play and continue running away from the play to look pretty ,you know dam well the first three steps where the play is so quit taking yourself out of plays that you read or guess wrong and you may become all world.

What Jack Smith is able to do off the edge is a direct f’ing result of what McCoy and McDonald are doing in the middle. If not for them the edge guys wouldn’t stand a chance. So let’s stop trying to hype Smith as if he’s the second coming of Simeon Rice. He’s not, and never will be. He’s competent, yes, but he can’t create plays on his own like Rice could if called on. Remember, it was McCoy who basically told Smith before the game to stay the f-ck out of his B-gap this week and stick to the edge like he’s supposed to. It worked wonders.
