Garrett Gilkey Gets Carted Off

September 3rd, 2015

GilkeyIt looked ugly. And shame on you, if you were smiling.

Bucs backup guard/center Garrett Gilkey, a popular Bucs fan punching bag, was carted off the field in the second quarter against the Dolphins.

It appeared Gilkey had a serious left knee injury. Teammates gathered around him and wished him well. Gilkey waved to the crowd as he was driven to the locker room.

Gilkey was in the hunt for a backup guard gig, thought Joe thinks he might have been a long shot since he was not going to be used as a reserve center. Now it seems Gilkey will land on injured reserve and cash the $585,000 check due him if he made the team.

Joe wishes Gilkey well.

If he gets $585,000 that will take some of the sting out of it!!!

Hopefully he can heal and come back next year. He’s very young so it’s very possible he’ll get another shot.

Didn’t like seeing him go out injured either.

Why we didn’t take a flyer on Collins in the 7th round is crazy with this O-line

Brindza just kicked a 55 yd FG. His first was a 57d yds. His kick offs go deep in end zone. Meet our new kicker.

I guess that makes the decision on Gilkey easier….

I hope its not too serious Gilkey! He’s pretty good as a Guard and needed the depth.

Never like to see anyone injured but not going to miss what Gilkey brought to the team. Brindza looking very impressive. Liking the trade right now.

Always hate to see anybody get carted off. I wish the young man well and hope he has a speedy recovery.
I bet the Bucs will be looking for guard help at 4:01 on Saturday

How many times must be said that Collins would not have excepted been drafted if he was picked in any round later than the third round ( 3rd round I believe)

so, he became an undrafted free-agent rookie. Then basically, as I understand it, In a nutshell Jerry Jones wooed him over the Bucs and any other teams that were trying to acquire him.

    Great play!

  12. BucGator Says:

@Love if they used their 7th pick on him at least they have a shot to convince him to stay on the team and the extend his contract. We just cut our 7th round pick and most don’t make it on teams anyway. It would have been a gamble but with high upside and minimal downside.

Hate to see him carted off. He was a train wreck at center but was the best backup guard on the team. I know not saying much but still!

    @BucGator….

(in my least frustrated typing voice….because this has had to be said EVERY time this is brought up)

if drafted, a player has the right to NOT sign with the team and then re-enter the draft the following year. Collins stated that if drafted in any round after the 3rd, that is what he would’ve done.

It would’ve been the ULTIMATE waste of a draft pick. At least with the 7th rounder we cut, we at least got the opportunity to see him and see if we could use him. With Collins, it would’ve just been like throwing away a pick, cause it would be like he was never even here.

I don’t see how the bucs couldn’t woo him..we had the cash and lovie and licht could’ve said,”come to tampa and be a starter”…in dallas he would be a back for a couple of seasons…I agree gilkey was ok as a guard and hate to see him get carted off…9/13 on deck..GO BUCS!!!
