Even Chucky Knows “A Mess”

September 15th, 2015
Chucky's bling seems like a century ago.

Chucky’s bling seems a century old.

The only coach to lead the Bucs to a Super Bowl win, Chucky, now works for BSPN.

And while he still lives in Tampa, Chucky was working this weekend in Atlanta prepping for Monday night’s Eagles-Dixie Chicks game.

Even though he was hours away, Chucky could smell the stench of the opening-day debacle at the Den of Depression, which featured the most inept defensive preparation by a coaching staff Joe has ever seen. Consider the following Vine clip by WHBO-AM 1040 sports personality Jenna Laine. It’s Chucky’s comments about the Bucs.

Yes, the Bucs are a mess. And frankly, Joe was struck by the differences between the Dixie Chicks and the Bucs last night.

Dan Quinn, in his first NFL head coaching job, took over a bad Atlanta defense, a defense that damned near gave up 400 yards a game last year, worst in the NFL.

Yet Quinn, a former defensive coordinator with Seattle, seems to have things turned around in just a few months. Yet in Tampa, with veteran defensive coach Lovie Smith, all we heard last year was that it takes damned near a year to properly learn Lovie’s defense.

Yet a year later, the Bucs got lit up like a roman candle on the Fourth of July by a rookie spread option quarterback making his NFL debut. The Bucs defense was so pitifully unprepared, Marcus Mariota damned near pitched a perfect game.

Funny, Joe isn’t aware of Quinn kvetching how his players need a year to learn his defense, or never heard Quinn whine just days before the season opener how he is getting close to having his kind of players that he needs for his defense to compete.

Instead, Quinn adapted and sure seems to be getting results. Imagine that.

Meanwhile in Tampa Bay, Bucs fans are crossing their fingers the Bucs are New Orleans-ready. Whether that means preparing for hangovers after a night on Bourbon Street or enough TUMS to handle mass quantities of gumbo, crawfish, po’ boys, bread pudding and beignets, Joe isn’t sure.

We will surely have our ass kick again in NO this week.

But does it really change something ?

Can we really go lower than we did last week ?

The Falcons still have a weak defense, they gave up over 400 yards Monday night. If someone think that the Falcons have a good defense, they gotta be blind. Sam Bradford was hitting wide open receivers all night long, the drop by Jordan Matthews and the miss FG is what saved the Falcons. Sam Bradford wasn’t touch at all, they don’t even know what his cologne smell like. They never got that close to him, actually the Bucs gave up less yards than the Falcons defense. We will rebound and kick some butt Sunday, there’s no need to panic. And we’re 12th in total defense and the Falcons are 26th, the bad calls by the officials is what really did us in. I’m not concern, we have a good team and we will play like a good team.

The Mass Exodus of Players & Coaches shocked everyone.

Even our own “Face of the Franchise” All-Pro Defensive Tackle Gerald McCoy,
Took to twitter and asked “What is going on in San Fran?”.

    Sidenote:
The Real question Gerald is “What is going on in Tampa Bay”

    I Digress:
But seriously- In the modern Era of football I can’t really think of any team that had such tumultuous offseason. Can you?

Yet on Monday Night Football in front of their home crowd
SuWoo’D to the socks – mobbing around Levi Stadium – Like they Gotta S On their Chest.

The San Francisco 49er’s trumped all the excuses and allegations by beating the Minnesota Vikings. With a decimated roster & rookie head coach

    GO FIGURES! Eh

    Aye,

So hats off to Head Coach Jim Tomsula. A man who has never been a Defensive Coordinator is this league – For accomplishing something – even our own beloved Head Coach, hasn’t done yet.

    Win a home game

    No More Excuses Coach

  7. Lakeland Buc Says:

The Falcons gave up 399 yards, and we gave up 309 yards. We gave up 115 yards after the catch, that’s what did us in. I don’t think we will have a repeat performance, we will win the NFC South. 11-5 is coming, we were a mess for one half. But we will be a success for the next 15 games.

@kevin- The lost did it for me Sunday. Watching the defense be no different than last year got me ready for another coach. I was one of those thinking the Tampa 2 needed a 2nd year to start playing decent. Sunday’s game was a wakeup call for me.

And then came Jimmy throwing High School Interceptions. Are you kidding me??? I refuse to insult our country with Joe’s senseless title! He will be JIMMY until those kind of interceptions are gone. He is in the NFL now.

I don’t watch college football so I was not happy with his off the field issues. For that reason I wanted Mariota. But since he has been here he showed maturity. With Joe’s and everybody’s hype about him I was starting to think we made the right choice. The Monday night game really got me on the band wagon.

Sunday, I expected him to be a ROOKIE which we saw. But those interceptions were a huge red flag. I could have intercepted those passes!

I LOST TRUST IN Lovie and Jimmy!!!

  14. tdtb2015 Says:

And watching Mariota’s PASSES vs Jimmy’s is a dagger! I’m only talking about passes people. On Jimmy INTs he had ZERO pressure coming. SMH

  15. tdtb2015 Says:

If those INTs were in double coverage and he was trying to throw a bullet to complete the pass I would have seen it as a rookie mistake. But the INTs he threw….WOW! When the new coach comes Jimmy will become a backup QB like Byron Leftwich.

Hopefully he shows us more in the next few months…

  16. tdtb2015 Says:

Because of LOVIE we will probably lose our team to LA. Tampa will become the new CLEVELAND of the south.

  17. tdtb2015 Says:

Johnny football and then JIMMY you are in a roll Joe!

  18. BucMania Says:

And the knucklehead in San Fran found a way to win their home opener despite losing half their team. That seat for Lovie should be getting really really hot.

  19. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

LUVMYBUCS great points… and they alos lost what seemed like their entire defense last offseason…. did the 49ers defensive staff or DC say it will take time for the new system to set in….or did he plug in the players and get the team going the 49ers opening season victory and how they shut down AP and the vikes offense is more of an embarrassment to Lovie and his BS then how Dan Quinn had the falcons jacked up and looking improved…great points

  20. JMN Says:

    “CHUCKIE COULD GAMEPLAN…”simple as that”…”

I did notice on some games though he was ill prepared but nothing like what we have faced with Lovie. You could definitely tell when Chucky prepared.

  21. JMN Says:

Lovie was planting the excuse seeds last year so he could harvest another year or 2 of coaching out of the franchise and have support of the fans. The fertilizer is starting to get low.

  22. MadMax Says:

I know a mess. I said after the preseason, I just wasn’t feeling it. I guess the Cincinnati game was a fluke. Revising my 5/6 wins down to 2/3…if that, smh.

    ——————————————-

On the pick 6 was on 3rd down and there was absolutely no where to go with the ball on that play and there was double coverage on the WR on that play. They started off in a bunch formation to the left and one WR ran a 5 yd out, the 2nd WR ran a post corner over the top of the short route and the 3rd WR ran what looked like a curl route to the inside and VJax who was lined up on the left side of the field ran a go route.

The CB jumped the route on the 5 yd out because he had LB help over the top of the short route and they also had safety help over the top of the deeper post corner. The guy running the short inside route let a LB cut off his route and the RB ran a delayed route to the flat on the right side of the field in the area vacated by VJax but by the time he got out there Winston had pressure and the ball was already thrown.

So you’re wrong in saying that he didn’t throw into double coverage but more importantly the learning lesson should be that in the NFL you sometimes just have to throw the ball away and live to fight another down instead of forcing the ball into coverage on 3rd downs.

  29. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    *aren’t

  30. waterboy Says:

**correction VJax was lined up alone on the right side on the field**

  31. FortMyersDave Says:

Niners winning just shows they are a better team than expected much like the Titans and that the Viking offense is about as bad off as the Bucs D. The difference is that the Vikings D will not give up 40+ points 5 or 6 times this season like the Bucs D will if Lovie keeps calling plays so the Vikings will be competitive every now and then and win a few games while that remains in doubt for the Bucs….

JMN: yeah I can see Lovie using the Evans injury as a shield as well as the fact that the Bucs are starting 2 rookie O-lineman and that Licht drafted all offense the past 2 seasons so that its “not really his fault” the defense looks so raged…. Lovie is good at excuses and shields…. This was a unprepared, badly coached squad that made mistake after mistake Sunday.

  32. Brett Says:

I don’t think Mariota would have looked nearly that good playing for the Bucs Sunday.

The fact of how much he outplayed Winston shows how bad the Bucs are on both sides of the ball. Did you see how open Titans receivers were? Do you understand how bad our o-line is? How can the Patriots start three rookies on their o-line and look great, and our line is still a disaster? The Kansas City Chiefs turned over every spot on their line in the last year and they look okay too.

Someone please explain how this is possible.

    LUVMYBUCS

Outstanding information once again thanks for sharing. ..

    LAKELAND

Give it a rest with the officiating and rankings BS nothing can or will justify the Pathetic performance by Lovie and his team on Sunday. Rankings don’t take into consideration of heart and Lovie, 93 and the of those bums have no heart. no ranking or officiating issues can justify that.

Lovie must go simple as that

  34. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @tmaxcon

    You welcome Brotha

  35. DallasBuc Says:

I would love to see how tickets have been sold since the horror show on Sunday! If a single Bucs ticket has been purchased I would be shocked.
We may see record open seats for the next home game if Lovie’s Losers get lit up over the next 2 weeks.

  36. Pick6 Says:

the bucs have a sadistic attachment to coaches that are completely inflexible. dungy and gruden were slaves to a single scheme\philosophy – dungy’s conservatism cost him a job and us part of a superbowl window; chucky got us over the top but was unwilling to scale down complexity and let a young offense grow up together; raheem lacked the experience to be set in his ways, other than failing to shift his mindset from “buddy” to “head coach”; schiano couldn’t treat men like men; and lovie hasn’t planned for any offensive schemes that have emerged since he became head coach of the bears

  37. JMN Says:

@ Pick6 I totally agree! In today’s NFL adjustments need to be made. Would be nice if Tampa would hire a coach who embraced adjustments rather than sticking with the same game plan when it is failing on epic proportions. Raheem was the only one who showed flashes of being able to change the game for second half play, but usually they were so far behind the opposing team it was hard to catch up plus his players gave up.

  38. DallasBuc Says:

I would take Raheem back as HC in a heartbeat. He would have learned from his mistakes and if given better support from ownership I bet he could turn this ship around. Sadly that will not happen

  39. samit23 Says:

Here comes another 2-14 campaign. The question is who will the 2 wins come against?

  40. unbelievable Says:

Even though they lost, did you see how tough the Vikings defense was playing last night? Look how hard they hit, tackle, how much they were flying around and playing pumped up. Check out the hits their cornerbacks and safeties were laying out, and their aggressive style. Obviously the niners defense was as well.

All I could think was damn, I haven’t see one guy on our defense play that hard. Not one. That’s on the coach. “Simple as that”.

  41. feelthepewterpower Says:

Joe, the Falcons still gave up 26 points and escaped with the win. I’m not excusing the loss or performance, but I think the TN was a combination of not being familiar with the Titans, coming off preseason (rust), and a number of rookies/turnover on both offense/defense. If we were to play Tennesee I’d like to think we’d be much better since we’d have tape on them……there is more familiarity with the Saints, and I expect a better effort. Hopefully our new QB has intel as well….

  42. mike10 Says:

Great article Joe, I didn’t think about that last nite.

I’m trying not to be rash either, bc we do not want a fifth coach in 10 years, but dear God Lovie continues to show us NOTHING..

  43. 813bucboi Says:

@Lakeland…I wouldn’t say all of that…the falcons d roughed up sam enough for him to have an xray and mri done after the game…the falcons d looked like they knew exactly what they were doing…the biggest difference between that game and the bucs game was that the eagles and falcons actually have 2 head coaches that know what their trying to achieve…falcons came out prepared ready to play and looked like they had a game plan for the eagles offense..the eagles got slapped in the face the first half, made some adjustments and competed in the second half which shows their coach was smart enough to say,”ok we gotta switch things up”…I would rather the bucs give up 600yards and come out with a “w” than only give up 300yards but lose…I have been a lovie supporter but he only has until week 4 to get it right this year…when you see teams like the 49ers,bears,falcons,jets all play competitive and execute a game play, it gives you hope…lovie has provided zero hope for this team or this city…I have season tickets and for the life of me cant believe I renewed them after going 2-14 last year..i left the game with 5minutes left in the 2nd quarter and thought long and hard about putting the rest up for sell..with that said im holding on to them praying that this team will get it together sooner than later but if we start out 0-4, they will be up for sell and heads need to roll in order to get this team back to where its suppose to be…GO BUCS!!!
