Banks Continues To Shine

September 24th, 2015
Bucs CB Johnthan Banks of off to another fine season.

Stat geeks detail Johnthan Banks is off to another fine season.

Mike Jenkins? Joe’s foot!

Though it hasn’t been seen recently — Joe just might have to prod Lovie Smith to see if he will still take the bait — for the most of Lovie’s tenure with the Bucs, the head coach has had a full-blown bromance over cornerback Mike Jenkins.

Joe doesn’t understand the attraction, but Lovie cannot hide his feelings, especially if you dare bring up the name “Johnthan Banks.”

Banks, who played very well last year, seems to be off to the same solid start this year. That’s what the stat geeks think as well. Word comes from J.P. Peterson of WDAE-AM 620 that the numberscrunchers are big on Banks.

Of course, if anyone was to bring this up to Lovie, even money he invokes the name of Jenkins.

Perhaps Lovie is starting to warm to Banks? After all, Banks did lead the Bucs in picks last year, a stat Lovie perceives to be almost as important as points.

Great tackle by Banks to deny the 2pt conversion. With Jennings on board Mike Jenkins has to be on his way out. He is never healthy.

Yet another example. Approaching the corner realist!!! Just wait on it.

Now when in my own personal opinion thru my own personal observation they begin to and or turn said corner you will no longer read me saying”just wait on it” why? Because it won’t be necessary. So until then realist!!! Just wait on it.

I like our depth at corner back. We actually have a good team. We just need our offensive line to block well and our defensive pass coverage to be able to cover receivers for 4 seconds and stop biting so hard on play action fakes. We have a small chance at winning the division against the Falcons. I just don’t think we can beat the Falcons yet because I don’t know think Jameis can figure our how to beat the Falcon D AKA mix Cover 3 and Cover 1 this season.

I think lovie uses Jenkins to keep Banks from being content but on the overall seems hr loves Banks on the field so much that he is moving Verner around and I think they should let Verner play nickel full time when the package is called upon. I like Jennings to get the full time at free safety because he has a knack to get to the ball in the open field he could really use his speed. Banks is solid though imo.

This cannot be true! According to the haters on this website, Banks sucks!

As I said many times, Banks is ahead in his development than Barber was at the same point of his career (4 more picks; more tackles). I think the Jenkins vs Banks thing is imaginary on the part of Joe.

More likely, Lovie is trying to get the best out of a player (Jenkins) that isn’t normally up to it. Lovie is an encourager.

    Joe doesnt like stats………
Unless they help him make his point.
    Just sayin’.

We need to stop the Lovie hates Banks chants …

Banks played the most snaps out of all the corners last week, and verner only played 36 ???

If he was only targeted twice and gave up one – doesn’t that mean 50%? Or can you somehow show not being targeted means you are good (think revis)

  11. Espo Sec 149 Says:

That was a hella good tackle denying that conversion. I saw flashbacks of Brian Kelly denying Emmitt Smith one on one. I saw flashbacks of a team that got their hands on an opponent and that tackle was a sure thing, not to be broken.

  12. John McKillop Says:

Why are people so surprised that Banks is maturing and coming into his own. This young man is an excellent defensive back who won the Jim Thorpe award given to the best defensive back in college football. Seriously, why are so many surprised that he can play, you should have expected this to happen.

The downside of Johnthan Banks last year was against the run were he had 15 missed tackles. His first year completion pct when he was thrown at was 69.6%. What I like about him is that he has shown improvement each year and this could be the year he becomes dominant. Other than the fumble he created Sterling Moore is the CB who has been struggling. I like the idea of using Jennings and Banks on the outside and Verner in the nickle. The player who got burned time and time again last Sunday was DJ Swearinger. He was constantly over running the run plays especially on the last Saint TD were he over ran the play allowing the score. He was burned in coverage as well. He seems to be soft and if I were Lovie I would play Conte/McDougald and let Tandy back them up. Let Softinger sit..

I hope you are referring to Jillian Rose Banks, known simply as Banks

    or Elizabeth Banks.

    McLeod

If a CB is not being targeted that much a lot of it is due to good coverage.

Banks has everything you want except blinding speed. He tackles, he anticipates, he covers well, can be physical, is tall, has ball skills… A step faster and he would be pro-bowler material.
