Should Warren Start At Center?

“America’s Quarterback” seems so much comfortable with Jeremiah Warren at center.

Joe isn’t being off the wall here.

Jeremiah Warren is a backup to starting center Evan Smith for a reason. He hasn’t been that good.

However, it cannot be argued; through two preseason games, “America’s Quarterback,” Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston, played his best when Warren was center.

Jameis looked shaky in his NFL debut last week until Warren came into the game, and then Jameis was able to count on consistent snaps. He found a rhythm immediately, completed passes, and scored during a two-minute-drill drive..

Joe doesn’t believe in coincidences.

Tonight, Warren, and not Garrett Gikey (thankfully), started as Evan Smith did not dress. Jameis played like every bit the No. 1 overall draft pick he is.

If Jameis is this comfortable with Warren, and Warren can consistently snap the ball correctly (unlike Smith and Gilkey) and block, then why not start the former USF product?

Let’s be real here: it is all about Jameis. And if Warren makes Jameis more comfortable, then to Joe it is a no-brainer who should start.

I was thinking the same thin Joe. He did a great job and held his own.

  2. Gus Says:

Agree with everything here. Smith isn’t some fantastic talent. If Winston is more comfortable with Warren, why not just keep him in there

  3. Abdominal Snowman Says:

Yes, Yes, and Yes. Forget ES or EDS, or i prefer “the Center formerly known as starter”.

  4. Pete Says:

    Yes!

  5. Nate S Says:

Yes please start him evan smith is terrible!

  6. Howard Cosell Says:

Joe also is possessed of visions that come on like a brilliant insight.
It certainly appeared to be different line tonight. Maybe EDS is
    dragging us down.

  7. Lakeland Buc Says:

Actually , I have like Jeremiah Warren since his days at South Florida. I have been beaten my brains, trying to figure why was Garrett Gilkey playing Center. Warren or Josh Evans should be the backup or starting Center. I have been saying this all along, we have talent on the 0-Line. We just have to find the right combinations and coach them up. Let’s go win this NFC South.

  8. chargedcbh Says:

i was thinking the same thing during the game, you saw JW and Warren talking, they had better communication. Play the best players, they can all grow together. First Carter and now Smith, who’s next to get benched?

  9. Waterboy Says:

Great game but Jameis lost his footing several times while coming off from under center I’m not sure if Warren was stepping back on his foot or if Jameis was tripping over his own feet but other than that I thought Warren looked pretty solid tonight. Either way I’m happy that there is some depth on the O-line.

  10. DallasBuc Says:

I don’t know, shouldn’t the best pass and run blocker at that position start instead of the guy who Winston feels comfortable with? EDS or whatever his overrated fatass wants to be called is not exactly a good player so maybe this other tomato can is good enough to beat him out on ability to play the position besides his comfort level with Winston.

  11. buc4life1979 Says:

was thinking the same thing by the end of the first quarter…..Offense as a whole, the running passing balance, everything is just so much more fluidic with Warren at center tonite…was like a revelation. If Wrath of Kwon can take over, Mr. Warren J just might be next.

  12. Buccfan37 Says:

Now you’re talking! Go Bucs! Go Bulls!

  13. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Play Smith for now. Just rotate Warren in a lot. If Warren continues to get better and Evans is not, then make the switch. But Warren should at least be the number two right now. Make him keep earning things. A two spot jump is too much too soon.

Did you notice the bad snap after he was out of the game?

  14. cmurda Says:

The guy that should start in place of Smith is anybody not named Gilkey. I’m all in on anybody else especially Warren, the USF product. The reason EDS was coveted is because of Rodgers and not the other way around.

  15. cmurda Says:

@Bonzai. I did notice and that was Gilkey. Need I say more.

  16. feelthepewterpower Says:

Mike Jenkins had a strip tonight….should he start, Joe? I’m only teasing…

  17. cmurda Says:

And now for the unsung player of the game. Wait for it….Wait for it….. Adam Humphries. The dude was on point with his sharp route running skills earning Wes Welker likeness from my brain. He showed sure hands and is not afraid to throw some blocks. I kept shouting keep this guy somehow but sadly I dont know how. Bell and Clay are virtual locks to make roster and you got V Jax, Evans, and Murphy as locks. If we keep 6 WR’s then it’s possible but that would mean Sheppard who also had a nice game would be left out. Kenny Bell was disappointing but there were some good missed opportunities and you know the guy will improve. Muscle Hamster and our Rb’s looked very solid. There were holes and they found them and James looked especially quick to me.

    I’m no fan of EDS

    So My Vote Is YES

  19. This Guy Right Here Says:

    Evan Douchebag-Smith is a punk…

When Koetter mentioned how he wanted Jameis to tell EDS to STFU, it lets you know that Evan’s more about starting sht with Winston rather than trying to work with him..

Fcuk that fat overpaid fcuk.. Start Warren!

  20. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

WE LOOKED GOOD TONIGHT! WE PLAYED AS A UNIT! I HAVEN’T BEEN THIS HAPPY AND PROUD TO WATCH THE BUCS IN A LONG TIME!! 😀

  21. Drywaller Buc Says:

EDS is a product of the system. His agent got him paid. He’s nothing outside of the packers organization. Hell be gone in no time.

  22. DB55 Says:

Yes. Marpet and smith are keepers too. Marpet pancaked geno Atkins and smith pancaked a guy too. 🙂

  23. MaHaBoNe Says:

a simple “yes” to the question asked.

  24. Ed Kerber Says:

I’d send E(D)S to Pittsburgh for a draft pick

  25. P'cola Buc Says:

Personally, I haven’t bought into EDS’s recent “positive” attitude. Seems that he was sat down by management and told to be politically correct. He could just be a poor fit for the present Bucs team, especially if he and Winston are not “clicking” on many levels. Perhaps a trade would be best for all.

  26. Mo_Downs Says:

Sadly, our WR camp cuts (Humphries, Dye, Hall and/or Bell) could be starters for the Carolina Panthers, NOW.

I’d hate to have to face any of those players after they’ve been practicing against our DB’s for so long.

Kenny Bell needs to step-up, and soon. Otherwise, he’s going to end up a starter on the 2015 Panthers. Wait…huh..?? Noooooooooooooooo…!!!

  27. thunderchunkyPA Says:

Warren is the guy. Evan Smith is not a great player, and think of Warren, Marpet, and D Smith growing as a unit? Everyone knows E Smith is out next year due to that contract, so give Warren the snaps.

  28. Buc Neckid Says:

Joe(s) is Drunk on a Home Victory in Preseason…
No way this a good idea.
Three Rookies and a Replacement Right Guard is your OLine Protecting the Franchise (Jameis)????
    Not a good idea

  29. Tom Edrington Says:

Good solid USF kid, I say let Jameis pick the starter, after all, its his hands rubbing up against the center’s butt…..

  30. Nick2 Says:

I can just about guarantee that Winston tells Lovie thats a move he would like him to make and it will happen.

  31. Chet Says:

Warren consistently stood out to me. Not just the simple act of snapping the ball, but looked good on some of Martin’s runs. No reason to keep Smith in there with his poor attitude and suspect play.

  32. Another J Says:

Warren looked light years ahead of Smith, and Gilkey.

  33. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I don’t think EDS sitting was any kind of punishment. I noticed a couple of starters were sat last night or barely saw any action. I think Lovie just wanted to give some young guys a chance to step up.

It makes sense, since the Ancients (veterans) all need to be replaced at some point…by younger players.

You never know when a young player is the right guy but just needs a little developmental time.
