Mike Evans Expands The Jameis Legend

What Bucs superstar wide receiver Mike Evans told Joe this afternoon was nearly unbelievable.

Joe is glad there was one other reporter there to witness the exchange.

Asked how quickly Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback, picked up the Dirk Koetter offense and picks things up in general, Evans painted Jameis as a super genius.

“I heard he learned the offense in two days, a day or two, something like that. Crazy,” Evans said of Jameis. “And he’s a quarterback, so he has to know what everybody’s doing. Me, it took me a while and I only have to know one or two positions. So that speaks for itself. Great football mind. One of the hardest workers I’ve been around.”

Joe couldn’t just let that slide. Two days for an entire playbook? Huh?

So Joe asked Evans who told him that Jameis learned the playbook so fast. Mike, did you hear that from coaches? Players?

“Just everybody was saying it, and then we got out here for like walk-throughs and he knew everything to do in OTAs,” Evans said. “He rarely makes mistakes.”

The legend of Jameis seems to grow daily.

The last line should read: Joe’s Winston-Boner seems to grow daily.

Not to go all Dennis Green, but must you really “crown his ass” so soon? I think he’s going to be our first franchise QB, but I’m not boasting it until he earns it.

I am excited to see Winston take on leadership and accountability.

  2. Buccfan37 Says:

I believe Evans, who would know better than his teammates?

  3. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Evans knows not to bite the arm that feeds him.

  4. The Buc Realist Says:

That is nothing Joe, In 2009 the whole offense learned Jeff Jagodzinski Playbook in 20 minutes!!!

it was only 3 plays, but the still “learned the whole thing” !

  5. micronole Says:

Jimbo called Jameis a football savavt. I guess Evans would agree.

  6. Seminole Bill Says:

Joe, Joe, Joe – puh-lease. Jameis has the skill and ability to be a top-flight NFL QB……in 3 years. How about we under-promise and over-deliver next year? Maybe an 8-8 season?

  7. Capt.Tim Says:

Consistent with what we have always heard- hes a franchise QB. He is the best QB out of college since luck, with a histoty on unprecedented success.

He will lead us from the NDL wilderness.

Playing all out to get him last year, was the smartest move this team has made in its history

  8. DavidbigBucsFan Says:

Stevek that was too too funny! I’d rather see him have one for the good for the team than the one so called realist and his ‘AnimosityAmigos’ have for coach Smith. Theirs is quite limp.

  9. BuccaneEric75 Says:

    Realist!!! LOL!!!!!!!

  10. Capt.Tim Says:

    “NFL wilderness” damn ipad

  11. Tom Edrington Says:

Same Mike Evans who declared last year’s 2-14 fiasco:

“The best 2-14 team in NFL history”

    Sure Mike…..

  12. Capt. Blighe Says:

Why I heard on ESPN Radio today that Jameis was really struggling.
And has not looked good at all. Whats the truth ?

  13. DallasBuc Says:

Was out at camp today with my little boy. Offense looks way different from camp in the Gruden days which is surprising since Gru could never win against Monte’s D. Our QB, the position, the offense in general and the camp flow is enormously impressive.
    Jameis Winston.

  14. DallasBuc Says:

    ^^^….despite 2-14 rank incompetence!!!
    So excited

  15. Abdominal Snowman Says:

    Tom E.
Last season after losing their new OC on the eve of the season with no one experienced to take over the Bucs lost 7 games leading in the 4th quarter, two of them in overtime. So I don’t think it’s that outrageous for Evans to claim they were better than a most 2-14 teams historically.

    LMAO Realist

  20. bucfaninphoenix Says:

Wasn’t there a story the other day that Jameis is struggling? Also something to the effect that he is throwing interceptions in practice when pressured and they were trying to work on it? What is the real story on the status of Jameis and how he is progressing?

  21. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

“He rarely makes mistakes” I guess that’s not including all the picks he throws. It is good to hear he picked the playbook up so quickly. But everyone knew his football IQ was off the charts even before the draft. That’s never been a question.

All that said he has impressed me to this point. I just hope he changes his trend of being terrible early in games and coming on strong after the half. That won’t work in the pros. Can’t wait to find out tho. Just glad football is back!!

  22. Buc1987 Says:

bucfaninphoenix …read Joe’s TC notes from today and find out.

  23. Buc1987 Says:

Winston completed 11 of 16 passes in 11-on-11 plays with 2 drops and managed to complete 11 of 12 throws in 7-on-7s.

When the kid heats up…he heats up. Bring on the pre-season.

  24. PRBucFan Says:

    Regardless that’s pretty damn impressive.

  25. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

STOP THE D@$! PRESSES! Dallasbuc actually said something remotely positive. WOW😮.

  26. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

What many of you don’t quite get is it’s his mind that makes me believe this kid will be further along in his learning curve more so than his physical ability. His mind and his ability to pick up and retain information is something quite rare the way he does and will eventually be acknowledged by media outlets nation wide. His mind is why I’m all on his joc strap, his mind.

  27. Lord Cornelius Says:

    He is.. The One

  28. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

They a little blind right now Lord C,but over time you can’t help but notice greatness.

  29. Rob Says:

ESPN is terrible. I bet after they told you how awesome Tim Tebow was doing at Eagles camp; Talk about a boner.

    ESPN = Liberal Sports Media.
