Lovie Monitoring “Hard Knocks”
August 12th, 2015Yes, “Hard Knocks” debuted last night. No, Joe didn’t see it. Joe cancelled HBO the instant “The Sopranos” went dark. It would have to be some kind of spectacular TV event to get Joe to pick HBO back up.
Besides, NFL Network will show reruns next summer. Joe can wait.
But one person who couldn’t wait to watch “Hard Knocks” is Bucs coach Lovie Smith. He appeared on NBC Sports Radio yesterday with the creator, curator and overall guru of Pro Football Talk, the great Mike Florio, and the leader of the Bucs said he will certainly tune in.
You see, the Bucs travel to Houston the third week of the season to face these very same Texans who are featured in “Hard Knocks.”
“I think as a coach you’re not doing your job unless you can use all the information that you can get,” Smith said on Tuesday’s PFT Live on NBC Sports Radio. “So we will have someone of course like most teams, if you get a chance to watch some of it to tape it and watch it. Of course it’s entertaining but you can get something out of it also.”
Joe isn’t really sure what any NFL team can pick up from these shows that cannot be picked up on All-22 film after the Texans have played a couple of games. (Keep in mind Lovie studied the Falcons on Hard Knocks last season and they embarrassed Tampa Bay in Week 3.)
Most players featured on “Hard Knocks” will be working for car rental agencies or handling airline baggage by the time the Bucs play the Texans.
Lovie did later confess it is what his team does on the field that actually counts.

Should he be wasting time on TV??? I mean, if it takes him a year to make adjustments to install a vanilla blitz package, lets not waste a minute on some reality TV show!!!!!

If you have to pay to watch TV, common sense tells me it should be commercial free. Who’s zooming who? I just boycott TV advertisers. Power to the people!

Joe sounds more and more like Mr. Wilson(no HBO since the Sopranos????) from Denis the Menace. Not only is Game of Thrones well worth the spend, it’s curious that Joe would miss Hard Knocks and the pretty enjoyable, and right up Joe’s alley, Ballers. Joe continually surprises me with his/their voluntarily excluding themselves from popular culture. Siege the Day Joe and live a little. 🙂

Don’t we always sign a couple of guys who get cut from Hard Knocks every year? I guess our scouting department is pretty limited.

The Buc Realist Says
“Should he be wasting time on TV???”
Considering half his job is watching film on a “tv”, that is the dumbest comment you have ever made.
Actually, no it isn’t the dumbest.
