Louis Murphy Talks About Jameis In The Huddle
August 16th, 2015Yes, Joe was live in Minneapolis last night and has loads to share from the Buccaneers locker room, stuff you won’t find anywhere else.
Joe will start with this nugget from Louis Murphy.
While many Bucs said Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback, didn’t seem nervous at all, Murphy shared the scene in the huddle. Heck, the man played with Tim Tebow and Eli Manning so he knows what winning QB leadership is like.
“He was very confident, very poised,” Murphy said of Jameis. “In the huddle, on the drive where we went down and scored, he said, ‘You know, hey, we’re going to go down and get seven points this drive.’And I think we drove 90 yards. It was good to see that he took that leadership role and stepped up and said those things in the huddle so guys could believe in him. [Struggling] didn’t phase him at all. Didn’t phase him at all. I was looking in his eyes to see how he was feeling, and it didn’t phase him and he was looking like ready to go.”
Jameis scored points with his teammates tonight, and it was a growing experience.
Keep in mind Logan Mankins only played one series, and the Bucs’ offensive line fell apart too often around Jameis.

Sorry That excuse won’t fly. All other QB’s were expected to deliver when the line “fell apart”. So guess what. No matter if it is Jameis, Glennon or when it was McClown. The result is the same. The offense sucks. Don’t try to save him with the line excuse now.

jameis is going to be good if he doesnt get killed marpet looked solid… d smith cannot be starting LT… what does warhop do?
August 16th, 2015 at 12:36 am
I need to bite my tongue tonight or I may get banned from this site for good. This whole team looked pathetic from top to bottom, at one point the announcer even said Jamie’s has to slow of a wind up and is only looking at one side of the field. I didn’t even see him look at Mike Evans, this could get ugly in a hurry folks.
August 16th, 2015 at 12:40 am
Yawn. Same Bucs. Decade running.
August 16th, 2015 at 12:48 am
The Mariota gang is back in full force!
August 16th, 2015 at 1:31 am
It’s a preseason game, who cares. I have full confidence in Jameis Winston, the Bucs just have to stay the course. The wins will come, I still believe that we will win the division this season. I have no reason to jump ship, we will compete and we will win. Jameis had a good game tonight, he didn’t buckle under pressure. And for a 21 year old rookie, that alone shows maturity. He never lost command of the huddle, he didn’t bend or fold. Right before the half, he completed a pass, then spike the ball with one second on the clock, then threw the hail mary. You don’t see that too often from a 21 year old rookie QB, the sky is the limit for Jameis.
August 16th, 2015 at 1:31 am
supersizesam — really? JW threw a long ball to Mike Evans who didn’t catch it and then blamed the Vike cornerback–it was a perfect pass but knocked away. VJax-same thing.
August 16th, 2015 at 5:16 am
There will be an equal number joe excuses to the number of crap plays made by our new “savior”! 😉
August 16th, 2015 at 5:56 am
I was more disappointed in what I saw with the D. Dont get me wrong, the Vikes will be a contender….will probably make the playoffs, but that D looked unprepared! As far as Jameis and the O line, patience will be required….a lot of it with D Smith. He needs to get faster or else we’re LT shopping very soon and moving him to RT.
August 16th, 2015 at 5:59 am
I know this is a shot in the dark, but go after Jake Long! He’s the obly available LT I see worth a gamble.
August 16th, 2015 at 7:04 am
I am hoping because it was the yikes 2nd game and our first, we were far more vanilla….but we looked bad, like Perkins bad, again….
August 16th, 2015 at 7:40 am
Not all doom and gloom folks. Bucs have lots of new parts offensively and defensively, and it’ll take time to gel.
There were several bright spots (just not enough of them). Louis Murphy for one showed why experience counts for something in tough situations. I thought that Doug Martin was running with authority at the start of the game, a positive sign. For vanilla play-calling, the OLine did some pretty decent run-blocking.
Lots of ‘stuff’ to work on obviously (wonder if that’s why they have a pre-season?). DE’s didn’t get enough pressure on the QBs (anyone surprised?). CBs and safeties coverages really looked bad at times. Special teams play left a LOT to be desired.
As for Jameis … Everyone seems to be putting way too much on Jameis’ shoulders at this point in his career. Savior? Please. He’s a rookie playing in his first real NFL game. And playing behind a line that doesn’t have the best track record in the world. With all the hype, no wonder he had butterflies.
August 16th, 2015 at 8:44 am
I think the Bucs played pretty good, about as well as expected. They aren’t known as the bumbling Bucs for no reason, and what’s with that red patch on the side of McCoy’s head, it looks absolutely freakish, though it doesn’t distract from his offsides jumping.

Dudes this was week 1 of the preseason. Relax! Jameis is fine, Donovan Smith sucks and Gilkey needs to be fired from one of the cannons. We pretty much knew this from camp.
August 16th, 2015 at 11:24 am
I think the problem is that we have a lot of fans who are watching preseason football for the 1st time because of Jameis.
August 16th, 2015 at 11:39 am
One perfectly executed spin move D. Smith gives up and all of a sudden he sucks smh. Rooks gonna be rooks. Give them a little time and game experience. Now Gilkey (whom I’ve been rooting for to turn it around) and Koenen (who practically handed the Vikes a TD) need to go…now.
August 16th, 2015 at 1:05 pm
Amen on the Gilkey firing (from a cannon or just fired). He couldn’t snap a ball to save his life.

Most being Mariota lovers at that.

The only thing I’ve been certain about all week leading up to fill in blank (Winston’s/Mariota’s) debut would be that the first int would be the end of their career and the first TD would annoint them the true savior.
It’s one game. BOTH rookie QB’s played like ROOKIES with lots of talent and lots of areas for improvement. Both bring different skill sets but BOTH can get the job done. Again this Marcus-Fameis debate could rage for the next decade. It’s very possible that they BOTH could be good NFL QB’s.
This first weeks performance from Mariota/Winston was very predictable and was forecast by the Joes and virtually every other pundit. Both QB’s will be fine but they both need work.
August 16th, 2015 at 6:16 pm
Did I watch a different game last night? Did none of you “I can’t be a Bucs fan because they drafted Jameis’ posters not see that Jameis personally put 6 points on the board – WITH HIS LEGS! Did you not see that time after time, JW stood firm awaiting someone to get open even knowing he was going to get slammed? Did you miss that when Gilkey practically hiked the ball over JW’s head he still managed to be the one to grab the ball so it wasn’t turned over?
Yes, JW made rookie mistakes but he also showed poise well beyond what most rookies do in their first game. There was also plenty of mistakes made by the veterans on the team too.
Yes, we all know you want Jameis to fail and you believe that Mariota is the second coming of god. Even with that, use the brains you’ve been given. You can’t related how good Jameis may end up being or Mariota may end up being based on their play in their 1st (preseason!) game ever.
You can’t relate the play of the Vikings in their 2nd preseason game to that of Atlanta in their 1st preseason. You’d have to look at all the players on both teams and figure out which top players played or didn’t play or how much they played and who they played with and against, etc.
In other words, right now all it means is rookies have a lot to learn and they just figured out how much and vets on each team got a wake up call on how good (or bad) their training has been.
I know it’s tough for all of you but TRY to see reality and not through your mourning glasses.
August 16th, 2015 at 11:45 pm
Awwwww…what’s the matter, people? Seeing all the faults I pointed out before the draft that you all denied?
Get over it. He’s a Buccaneer now.
What you all failed to understand is that no quarterback is perfect coming out of college.
Jameis can be great…and you dummies just have to understand it might take a year or so.
It might not…but expecting sooner will just frustrate you.
August 16th, 2015 at 11:50 pm
I cannot believe I’m in a position of defending a QB I did not want as a first choice.
August 17th, 2015 at 9:26 am
So some people really think Mariota looked better in a PREseason game? How many screen/short passes did Mariota throw? He fumbled and threw an INT. To the guy that said Winston didn’t look at Mike Evans. I think he threw his way 4 times, including the int (pass interference). Relax, it was a PREseason game, the first one at that.
August 17th, 2015 at 9:54 am
Lots of people simply don’t know football and are highly results oriented in a preseason game, let alone the very first one. LOL. It’s a process. Sheesh.
August 17th, 2015 at 9:55 am
WOW…glad all you supposed BUCS fans aren’t coaches, scouts, or any other position on a football team that makes decisions or analyzes players.
Jameis is 3 months into his 1st year. Pretty sure anyone with half a brain, even if you haven’t played the sport, knows it takes time for a QB and his WR/TEs to build chemistry and gain trust. Jameis had a full 1.5 years in FSUs system throwing to his receivers before taking his first snap. Use your heads people. He’s not going to wow from day one no matter what everyone is saying about his abilities.
A simple look to the past will show that rookie QBs do not come out firing perfect from day 1 and that includes MANY who ended up in the Hall of Fame. You guys act like you don’t know this stuff. Let him develop, realize he will make mistakes, but also realize that he is 100% the most dedicated BUCS QB in a long time to getting better every day.
August 17th, 2015 at 2:43 pm
If only there would have been a mobile QB with experience in the No Huddle offense available when the Bucs were on the clock… Oh, wait… Nevermind.
Why is Jameis getting slack because he’s a rookie? Nobody gave Mike Glennon any slack as a rookie! The double standard by the Tebow-maniacs, err, Winston-maniacs is astounding.
