Jameis And Ronda Rousey
August 5th, 2015Joe likes creative analogies but must confess this one left Joe scratching his head.
Yesterday, in his daily presser, Lovie Smith was asked about the development of “America’s Quarterback,” Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston. This somehow dovetailed into Lovie invoking the name of MMA fighter Ronda Rousey.
“As a general rule, you always want to push the ball down the field, but if it’s not open there’s a second and possibly third read to go to,” Lovie said.
“The checkdown is normally part of that. As we continue to go, that’s what we will want our quarterbacks to do every snap – if it’s not there and you don’t feel like you can get it in there, live to play another down, check it down. There is nothing wrong with getting positive yards. Young quarterbacks – as a general rule – positive yards are a good thing.
“In time all those things will come. We talk about Jameis and a lot of talk about him today, he needs to go through all of this. We are giving him different looks every day. We’re asking him to do different plays every day and he is bouncing back. You saw the Ronda Rousey fight. Most of those fights, both (fighters), you are going to get hit. You’ll hit some and you’re going to get hit some. That’s how it goes. It’s a quarterback. That’s life.”
Joe has read the above quote and when Lovie brings up this Rousey, Joe’s concentration goes off the cliff. Maybe it is because chicks who could put Joe in a coma weird him out? Maybe because Joe has never seen this Rousey Fight? Maybe because Joe isn’t into human cockfighting?
The analogy just seemed weird.
Was Lovie trying to say that Jameis in his first few practices as an NFL quarterback is rolling with the punches?

Maybe he meant to say Jameis tries for the knockout like Rousy but every now he then he has to take the opening the other fighter gives him, I’m just guessing.

I think Lovie is getting at the fact that Rousey, who is super talented, has a ridiculous cache of potential it seems and is tested much, Bethe Correiria tried and even landed some good strikes on Rousey Saturday night, but Rhonda overwhelmed Correria and went on to win in impressive fashion as usual. R9usey is a fox btw, and I’d be more than happy to take a licensed weapon out on a date, I hear she loves hot wings and shock top.

Joe Joe, my good friend Joe. Human Cock Fighting? SMH. I’m pretty sure its statistically safer and more humane than the great sport of Football. Anyway, you should check out Rousey. She may help you get over the infamous Rachel Watson. Lol. Good stuff. Keep the Bucs info coming.

I don’t think if Rousey was really into “human cockfighting,” that sh’e be very popular Joe…Maybe to a certain small segment of the populas that is entertained by the sideshow named Caitlyn maybe…

What Lovie is saying that Jameis has to take his blows, then deliver bigger blows .

Come on Joe I don’t watch MMA, but everyone loves a good cat fight. 🙂

Did you really just refer to MMA as “human cockfighting”? You are 20 years behind and horribly uneducated. Greatest sport in the world with the most highly trained athletes.
And Buc 1987, “cat fight”, really?

I always thought cock-fighting was when two guys had sword fights with their wieners.

Ah, I see. You’ve never seen her fight, but claim the whole thing is human cockfighting. How do you feel covering a sport that is more dangerous, especially to the brain, than MMA? Also, can it really be distilled to “human cockfighting” (a term Sen. John McCain coined over a decade ago about MMA, but he’s come around to the point he said he would’ve practiced the sport when he was younger), if the skills an average MMA person accrues, practices, and masters easily trumps the variety and complexity of any skillset a football player will ever have. Next time you’re at a media circle, ask Jay Glazer what he thinks about “human cockfighting”.

“Human cockfighting”?? I know the Bucs blew last year but it isn’t 1993 anymore Joe. get with the times and just embrace it….change can be good sometimes. just because you probably grew up on boxing, that doesn’t mean there can’t be room for another (much more exciting) combat sport. sadly, boxing has been dead for years. might never be revived. society evolves, sports reflect that, and MMA is just the next step in that evolution.
