Day 12 – Training Camp Notes & Observations

August 18th, 2015

McCoy

It’s Joe’s world famous comprehensive practice notes from today’s rain-shortened slugfest at One Buc Palace.

Yes, the Bucs were in pads and hammering each other after some extended specials teams work where there is no hitting.

*The Bucs jump into 11-on-11 work from inside their 5-yard line, and soon after Charles Sims gets hit in the hole and coughs up the football. Kwon Alexander scoops up the ball and scores a touchdown.

*Nice connection, Mike Glennon to Kaelin Clay.

*Jeremiah Warren is your second-team center. Looks like Garrett Gilkey will stick to guard. Perhaps that’s just wishful thinking by Joe.

*Bruce Carter fires through and hits Sims in the hole.

*America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, fires over the middle and 12 yards downfield 21-year-old starting middle linebacker Kwon Alexander leaps high and tips the pass over the middle.

*Interception! Jameis uncorks a laser but is thieved by Lavonte David who had a solid return. Those darn underneath linebackers continue to trouble Jameis through camp. Pass intended for Mike Evans.

*Jameis is not rattled. Back to Evans in the right flat. Complete. Jameis showing a lot of arm strength today.

*Scramble! Jameis breaks the pocket when he sees no one open, but play is called deal. That typically happens when coaches feel too much time has elapsed and the action is no longer realistic.

*Drop! A bad one. Glennon over the middle to Kenny Bell.

*Jameis is working with the second team for a series against the first-team defense.

*Very sharp execution to right sideline in tight coverage. Jameis to Donteea Dye.

*In 1-on-1 linemen work combined with half-line battles, in light rain, Larry English blows up reserve tackle Edawn Coughman.

*DE Lawrence Sidbury abuses right tackle Patrick Omameh.

*Gerald McCoy squares off with rookie guard Ali Marpet. Good push by McCoy but he didn’t beat him. Steady rain is coming down.

*New Bucs right tackle, projected starter Gosder Cherilus wears No. 78 but has no name on his jersey. C’mon Bucs, a little respect for the veteran of 100 NFL starts.

*Cherilus in a stalemate with Larry English, but Cherilus claps his hands afterwards. He didn’t like his result.

*Tony McDaniel easily beats Antoine Everett.

*McCoy takes care of right tackle Reid Fragel, who’s getting a lot of snaps today.

*Lots of pass rush games today in this drill.

*7-on-7 work begins with Jameis completing to Bell on a rollout right.

*Brutally heavy rain delays practice.

*Bucs return when it lets up slightly about 20 minutes later. A few minutes before the whole team arrives, Vincent Jackson emerges in the rain with tight end Brandon Myers as the first and only guys on the field. How bout that dedication of V-Jax.

*Practice never resumes as the intense rain continues. Jameis seems oblivious and wants to throw. See video.

Could underneath linebackers still and continue to be an issue for Jameis?

  2. Trubucfan22 Says:

Well he is going against the best linebacker in the NFL. LVD is going to win a lot of the time.

  3. Buccfan37 Says:

These underneath Buc linebackers should be picking off the opponents throws plenty this season. Nice rain shortened recap.

Ok. I really hope our linebackers can do the same to Mariota week one. This team can not come out flat week one. It happened the past two seasons and it just can not happen again. If nothing else, this defense better be ready to hit someone. When the Titans come to Tampa, they need to feel it the next day. Heck, all season we need to make the other team feel it the next day. Like “damn. Those Bucs beat the spit outa us. Glad we dont gotta play them again”. No more of the soft, automatic win Buccaneers. Make teams not wana come into RayJay to play us. Especially in September and October when its hot. Time to grow a pair and smack these teans around, especially the Saints, Falcons and Panthers and the Titans too. Lets go into Nawlins ready to fight. Lets shut JJ Watt TF up! Lets smack that little smirk off of Cams cocky face!
How about some Oklahoma drills? If any team needs it, its the Tampa Bay Buccaneers!

Joe, from the news on TV it looked like practice just got rained out. So great to pull up your site and get the real details. What I didn’t see in the Vikings game was McCoy pressuring and sacking the QB. Joe, do you think McCoy losing so much weight was a mistake, like I do and have been saying? How good is McCoy going to be in stopping the run now?

My least favorite part of these things is concerning the music. I could care less what they listen to. It’s like being told what the person in the car next to me is listening to.
