Jameis Is Not “Hype”
July 20th, 2015A week from Saturday begins the last stand of the Mike Glennon Mob. That’s when training camp opens and if the quarterback of the past and the quarterback of the future ever hopes to be the quarterback of the present and lead the Bucs, this will be his final shot.
That’s if you actually believe there is competition.
In Glennon’s path stands “America’s Quarterback,” Bucs signal-caller, No. 1 overall pick, and the former national champion and Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston, who has lost a grand total of six games in his life.
Who you gonna bank on to start the season against Tennessee?
Last week, a vocal member of the Mike Glennon Mob called the best football show in America, “Movin’ the Chains,” co-hosted by Pat Kirwan and Jim Miller, heard exclusively on SiriusXM NFL Radio, to discuss the Glennon’s chances of starting.
Both Miller, a long-time NFL quarterback, and Kirwan, a former Jets linebackers coach and Jets pro personnel director, and former Bucs front office coffee-fetcher (if you watch NFL Network enough, you see old footage of Kirwan manning the Bucs’ table at past NFL Drafts), are confident the job belongs to Jameis come Sept. 13.
Jim Miller: If Jameis is capable of handling all the information — and all indications are that he is — I think he will get the start, but maybe they are thinking Glennon will get the green light. But I don’t think and you don’t think that is going to happen.
Pat Kirwan: I do not expect that to happen. I think this is Jameis’ time and that is what he was taken for. This is not having a crystal ball. Look at first round picks. Look at top-of-the-draft picks. They are on the field pretty quick. He will play.
What sent Joe into orbit was when the caller, “Daniel,” representing the Mike Glennon Mob, said he would “take experience over hype” any day.
What hype?
Was that hype when Jameis completed 25 of 27 passes (one was dropped) for 356 yards and four touchdowns in his very first college game, on the road before a nationally televised audience in prime time?
Was that hype when Jameis drove the Seminoles 80 yards, completing six of seven passes, including the national championship-winning score against the SEC champions? Was that hype that he lost just one game in college? Are all the second-half comebacks hype? Was it hype that Jameis completed 15-of-16 attempts in a second-half rally against Notre Dame?
It’s a wonder Jameis isn’t crippled he put that team on his back so many times the past two years.
Hype? Please!
What exactly has Glennon done to warrant starting for the Bucs? Remember, Glennon was deemed by Lovie Smith unfit to start for a 2-14 team; not good enough to unseat turnover-prone Josh McClown. In fact, Lovie benched Glennon twice.
In the same conversation, Kirwan dismissed any analysis based on underwear football, stating the time for evaluation is when pads are on and real football is practiced.

@Joe
Pump ur brakes brother. While I’m not advocating #8 start over #3, until #3 starts doing what he did in college at the professional level and consistently (not just for one glorious season see Josh Freeman 2010) he is unfortunately just that: HYPE.
July 20th, 2015 at 8:20 am
[Claiming any Bucs player is a felon without evidence gets you run. Joe is legally responsible for what is on this site. — Joe]
July 20th, 2015 at 8:21 am
Jameis is the perfect QB for Lovie Ball
Keep it close during 3-1/2 quarters
Win it on the Final Drive
He has that “IT” that a Lovie Ball QB needs
July 20th, 2015 at 8:21 am
Joe’s,
I’m not a big college football fan, but I coincidentally happened to watch Jameis’ first game. I knew after watching that 25 for 27 effort, he was going to be special. While I freely admit I was on the Mariota band-wagon, I am STOKED to have this kid here. As long as he stays out of trouble, we may have caught lightning in a bottle.
GO BUCS!!!
July 20th, 2015 at 8:29 am
I’m just being real here. Questions that make you go Hmmmm…
Do you want to start a qb with no nfl experience?
Do you want to start a qb with a tendency to throw many interceptions in the college level?
Or
Do you want to put in a nfl experienced qb?
Btw Glennon beat Pittsburgh last year in their crib.
Do you remember who was the dc for Pitt last year?
Do you know where he is working now?
If our oc things Jameis is ready then I’m all in.
Otherwise, let Glennon get our 1st win. There is no need to rush Jameis.
But if Joe thinks we are going to the SB this year with Jameis at qb then by golly put the Seminole in for gods sakes!
July 20th, 2015 at 8:30 am
When one thinks of “gunslinger” QBs, as Joe has called Jameis, the first “gunslinger” that comes to my mind is Farve. I have often thought Winston’s game is a lot like Farve’s. I am NOT putting Jameis in that category, just sayin. Then I was recently reading this article about the hurdles GM Ron Wolf had to go thru to trade for Farve. And maybe I have had too much Kool Aide, but I could not help but to think how much this quote MIGHT, HOPEFULLY will, apply to Jameis one day and we can all say remember when…
“Anytime a franchise gets a player like Brett Favre, that’s rare,” Wolf said. “Just think about what he did, changing that organization from a loser to a winner. In all my years — I spent 38 years in the NFL — I’ve never been around a player who did for a team what Brett did for the Packers.”
Ahhh, it’s that time of year when euphoria runs high!!! Sorry Realist, I know I can count on you to bring me back to earth!
July 20th, 2015 at 8:34 am
@Curtis Gatorboy Says:
“Also, I gaurantee that Glennon starts over him. I have people in the know”
ROTFLMAO!!! Thank you for that! Too funny… “In the know”. Lmao, who, the a landscaper at OBP?
July 20th, 2015 at 8:39 am
@Harry
Anything is possible!!! What we have is potential at QB, I just would like for some not to put the weight of the world on his shoulders and let the kid learn and play.
Let Jameis take 1 obstacle at a time. 1st beat out Glennon, 2nd Beat an NFl team and so forth…
His larger obstacles will come latter,,expample.. over coming Lovie’s passive and conservative defense and poor in game management!!!
So let’s try to just to keep the talk to obstacle 1 before we start comparing to HOF’s like Farve and Jameis’s legacy as a player!!!
July 20th, 2015 at 8:41 am
You give him too much credit, Harry.
His friend has a cousin who lived next door to the guy who serviced the mowers for the landscapers at OBP.
July 20th, 2015 at 8:44 am
@Curtis Gatorboy Says:
“Jameis IS hype joe, and hes also a POS who beats and takes advantage of women”.
LOL you are an idiot. Do you have any proof or evidence that he beat or take advantage of women? If you do, then you need to go to the police, if you don’t then please shut your mouth.
July 20th, 2015 at 8:44 am
@tdtb2015,
I hear what you are saying, but, do you think the King of the check down pass will do better? Here is what I think you will see with Winston as the Bucs QB. He will loose some games, BUT, he will win some too – in what will be exciting fashion. Remember what Freeman could do before he went crazy? And Winston has got light years on Free. I am not saying it will all be pretty; it won’t – Jameis is a rookie. But, it will be fun to watch a Bucs game again because, it won’t be a bunch of check down passes. With Jameis we will always have HOPE for him to pull it out
July 20th, 2015 at 8:50 am
@Realist,
Thank you brother, lol. Every once in a while I like to let The Dream get out there, to enjoy, and savor it. I get tired of thinking about the idiot personnel moves from last year that left anyone with common sense scratching their head. And I block out all thoughts how Lovie could conceivably F-up Winston this year. Please God, don’t let Lovie do that!
I knew you would be there for me. Thank you!
July 20th, 2015 at 8:54 am
@Harry
Let just hope that “Lovie Claus” is not busy gift wrapping starting jobs again!!!
July 20th, 2015 at 8:54 am
I wouldn’t be too concerned about what one caller said during a radio show…..if you stated doing that, you’d never finish.
The only person that matters is likely Koetter…..he will make the decision and it will be Winston.
July 20th, 2015 at 8:58 am
Won’t be long now. Oh how I look forward to some of you having to eat your 9day old pot of greens words. The joy that will soon be providing me.
July 20th, 2015 at 9:02 am
Starting jobs for who? You can’t mean his job can you,buffoonery. Ya see he’ll be on that side line causing you mental anguish for atleast a decade.
July 20th, 2015 at 9:20 am
So Realist!!! you hate the head coach and lizard boy curtis you hate the new franchise QB hmm it ain’t hard to tell. But I love it.
July 20th, 2015 at 9:25 am
Until Winston does anything in the Pros, he’s nothing but hype.
July 20th, 2015 at 9:31 am
Who the FUK wants “Check Down 3 & Out Glennon” to start? FUK that! THE MESSIAH will have more wins in 10 weeks than Glennon has his whole career.
July 20th, 2015 at 9:41 am
There is nothing but “Hype” in July. Wake me up when September comes.
July 20th, 2015 at 9:47 am
Of course it is all hype and speculation
Tim Tebow had a better passer rating than JW in College(since that is the metric you are using in this article Joe AND TT only threw 16 picks in 4 years. Not 18 in one yr. And where is TT right now???? Yeah, that’s what I thought. I am all about JW but please don’t bring college stats in here to prove JW will be a winner in the NFL
July 20th, 2015 at 9:47 am
At Least this year, the Lovie sheep are not guaranteeing a ” top 10 defense ” again!!!
My, my what a difference 1 year makes around here!!!
July 20th, 2015 at 9:48 am
So in other words General, You still have NOT been able to pry their plan out ? So what has Glennon done? Winston has done nothing in the pros. College is college. Not the big boys. When camp opens you will see who is under center and see if you want to run for the Skyway Bridge.
July 20th, 2015 at 9:55 am
You guys, apparently, do not know that last year Glennon LEAD THE LEAGUE in pass atts. OVER 15 yards. Exactly how is that ‘check-down’ compared to everyone else? At least hate him for something that is true. Some of the same Glennon haters who make up stuff are the first to jump on Winston haters for making up stuff. Pot-kettle-black
July 20th, 2015 at 10:00 am
Joe, you should organize a trade Glennon rally out in the streets with signs and bullhorns. Honk if you want Glennon traded.
July 20th, 2015 at 10:01 am
If MG8 “Napoleon Dynomite” was that great he would have won more than one game last year! Yes, he is far better than the Clown but take a look at the tape. He was timid most of the time with the mobility of a turtle and throws the INT at the worst times. Who was our QB during the 56 to 14 blowout vs Falcons? Who was our QB during the 48 to 16 blowout vs Ravens? What was MG8 completion % when there was no pressure? 67.3% Jameis can do better with no pressure than 67.3%. Which college football prospect has the most passing yards, the most TD and the highest QB rating for a single season? Andrew Luck, John Elway or Jameis Winston? Survey Says….Jameis Winston, in his freshman year. 4,057 YDS, 40 TD and a QB rating of 184.4. Hype my backside.
July 20th, 2015 at 10:06 am
@Buccfan37
That is what this site is for!!! don’t believe me, read all the articles since the Draft!!!
#Don’t_be_scared_of_competition!!!!
July 20th, 2015 at 10:22 am
Harry….Curtis has been tellin us about his “in the know” family member since before the draft when he said Mariota’s going to be the pick because he has family members that work for the Bucs. SOS from this Gator twit.
Curtis just because your college team are losers doesn’t mean you have to emulate them.
July 20th, 2015 at 10:29 am
I don’t mind the Glennon criticism when compared to Jameis for this discussion but bringing up the decisions made by incompetent Lovie Smith has no bearing at all. It is in no way an indictment on Glennon that our incompetent HC repeatedly and enthusiastically makes terribly moronic football decisions en route to 2-14. It is unfair to tie that to Glennon’s abilities or lack thereof on the football field.
July 20th, 2015 at 10:31 am
Just call him a twit 87 and please leave the Gator part out of it. I would punch him in his mouth for his stupidity and setting a bad example for those of us UF alum that are rational and forget college allegiances once a player turns pro.
July 20th, 2015 at 10:35 am
Buc..did I ever mention how much I hate the Gators?
July 20th, 2015 at 10:40 am
Yes you have an I hate Noles, but only 12 Saturdays a year.
July 20th, 2015 at 10:49 am
So I’d be hard pressed to find any, but I’m sure there are Nole twits out there somewhere too.
Plus I was only trying to make funny rhyme.
I could have rhymed it like this instead…
Same old thought from a Gator t*at.
But I was trying to be nice. I really was. lol
July 20th, 2015 at 11:07 am
I’m sure there are Nole twits out there somewhere too.
**********
Present! Lol
Winston and Glennon a match made in heaven. There’s no competition here, move along please. Nothing to see here. Thank you.
You don’t draft anyone first overall to have him ride the bench. Duh!!!
July 20th, 2015 at 11:22 am
@harry- oh man! that sounds good.
Loved Freeman on his glory games. I have no expectations this year. I just want to see progress from our team. Next year should be a playoff year.
Go Bucs!
July 20th, 2015 at 11:24 am
so…..when does the pre season start? This is becoming painful..

July 20th, 2015 at 8:29 am
I’m just being real here. Questions that make you go Hmmmm…
Per Pro Football Reference: Koetter’s W/L vs the Steelers is 2/3. His record against the Titans is 4/6.
July 20th, 2015 at 11:47 am
You know only buc fans will have a team draft a qb #1 overall (best Qb prospect in the last 10 years behind luck) and ask for the backup to start over him. A backup that has only won 5 games no less. You wonder why the national media pick on Tampa fans. Look no further than the posters on this board.
July 20th, 2015 at 11:59 am
Say it again 99. You know what I’ll reiterate first overalls don’t ride the pine. A yo Dallas America Head coach Lovie Smith told me to tell you hello bro. He appreciates all the attention and love you bring to him on site. 👍👍s up my dude. Great job. Me and both are looking forward to all the love over the next ten years.
July 20th, 2015 at 12:01 pm
A yo whus up celly,been missing you dawg.
July 20th, 2015 at 12:08 pm
@Nole…
I been here, just not posting.
Deal with enough going on in my daily life than to come on here and deal with ignorance, negativity and blatant lies as well.
I’m planning on coming down for a home game this year; most likely the Doug Williams game. Its 2 days after my birthday, so that’ll be a great way to celebrate. If you’re tailgating, my and my cousin (Pats fan) would love to come through. We’ll bring bottles.
July 20th, 2015 at 12:11 pm
Also been frustrating dealing with 95% of my posts being moderated, for some reason.
Still wondering what the holdup is with setting up a forum/message board on here. I feel like that link has been up forever and it says it should(‘ve) been ready Spring 2015.
@Joe,
If you need some help on the backend development of it, let me know. I’d e willing to assist, pro bono.
July 20th, 2015 at 12:58 pm
It never gets old watching that National Championship winning drive. Thanks for posting Joe.
Championship on the line – Down by 4 points with 1:11 left in the game and possession on your own 18 yard line – there’s better QB to have under center than “America’s Quarterback”. He proved it time and time again in College. The winning TD pass to Benjamin was perfectly placed.
Think we can get used to moments like that Bucs fans?
With great talent comes plenty of hype. In this case it is more than justified. Jameis has IT – and now the Bucs do too.
Can’t wait to see this team start winning some games – starting with the Titans…. It’s been too long since we were truly competitive.
1 player changes everything if that player’s name is Jameis Winston.
It still feels like a dream that the Bucs were able to get such an exceptional talent at QB. Rookies rarely excel in the NFL – but we are likely to witness the start of something special for the Buccaneers this year.
July 20th, 2015 at 1:09 pm
God help my bucs
July 20th, 2015 at 1:11 pm
Good deal celly just might see you bro.
July 20th, 2015 at 2:16 pm
Jameis Russell will be below average! His interception issue is likely a result of eye problems as he always squints because he cannot see well. The 5th best quarterback in the division will yell at Lovie when upset and likely toss refs around he did in college
July 20th, 2015 at 2:54 pm
UntrUth…it’s called contact lenses that sometimes bother him in the sun. He doesn’t like to wear them on gamedays. Sometimes he wears them and sometimes he doesn’t.
“He has contacts and doesn’t like wearing them, but it’s a very minimal prescription,” Fisher said. “At night, he has a hard time, sometimes, with the lights and where those lights are. He sees. He’s fine. That’s the way he looks over there.
“It’s never a factor. It’s never been a problem, just because he squints. He still seems to see. Think of the way he would play if he couldn’t see.”
July 20th, 2015 at 3:50 pm
@buc1987
You should refer him to Dr Updefraff laser eye surgery!!! He fixed my eyes, and I remember right before the laser surgery we argued about the Cadillac Williams as I was not a fan of drafting the 3rd RB taken with the 5th overall pick!!!
But we were both excited for the third round TE Alex Smith as we both thought the Bucs needed a weapon at the TE position!!!
July 20th, 2015 at 3:51 pm
Either way, many don’t want a thief to be the “Face of the Franchie.” His profanity laced tirades along with the thefts aren’t what Tampanians pride themselves on. He’ll continue to throw ints like he did leading all ACC teams. The Leftwich windup and slower than Glennon speed are a recipe for disaster…
July 20th, 2015 at 4:03 pm
GoBucs’ …that’s great then perhaps you should just go fishing on Sunday’s.
July 20th, 2015 at 4:14 pm
Or watch Glennon start! #team #glennon
Let’s see if Jameis can get a 2:1 td/int ratio… Somehow I doubt it
July 20th, 2015 at 4:34 pm
@GoBucs
F*$& Glennon!!! He is a backup and that is it.
July 20th, 2015 at 4:36 pm
@GoBucs,
Your 2to 1 ratio is flawed on so many levels. Luck, Manning etc did not have a 2 to 1 ratio as rookies, but obviously you would take Glennon over both of those Qbs as well which makes you and your 2 to 1 ratio point idiotic. But if you like looking like an idiot then I love it. To each his own I guess.
July 20th, 2015 at 4:46 pm
I, for one, could care less about Jameis’ TD:INT ratio….
What is far more important to me is the fact that he will better Glennon’s career W/L in his first season with the Bucs.
July 20th, 2015 at 4:51 pm
The Leftwich windup and slower than Glennon speed are a recipe for disaster…
——————————
You can always tell the ones who never played sports before. First GoBuc, Winston’s delivery is much better since the college season ended because all he has done is concentrate on football and not baseball which helped with the improvement in delivery. Its called practice. Obviously you have never heard of it or know nothing about it. Secondly, just because someone runs a slower 40 time does not mean that person isn’t more athletic. For instance Tony Romo’s 40 time was 5.01. Who is better in the pocket, Glennon or Romo? Who is able to make more plays with his feet, Glennon or Romo? Again, you can continue to look clueless if you want to but trust me, its not a good look for you.
July 20th, 2015 at 5:35 pm
We went with experience over hype last year and what did that get us 2-14.
Lets not make the same mistake twice.
July 20th, 2015 at 7:19 pm
GoBucs’… Tampanians? That’s too funny.

July 20th, 2015 at 7:46 pm
Joe he just wants to make it appear that there are many Bucs fans that hate Jameis. It’s called being immature…
July 20th, 2015 at 8:26 pm
Yeah wins and losses are what matters the most regarding a quarterback. We all know its a 1-man sport like golf and Nascar racing. There are 21 other starters out there but i guess that is irrelevant.
Which of your four usernames should Joe address the reply to? — Joe

Realist is real. He never tries to use an alias. Joe’s favorite poster. He knows what is in-bounds and out of bounds.
July 20th, 2015 at 9:47 pm
Yes Joe, but what does he win?
July 20th, 2015 at 10:22 pm
@Joe,
You blocked my last 3 comments under Yungry. All of which contained no profanity or anything explicit. Hence, changed screen names and allowed to comment again. I was a Marcus supporter, but changed my mind at the Combine. Winston was the leader among leaders(quarterbacks). His skill set is remarkable but there is no denying he has question marks. Hopefully, he wins at least 6. Then we are heading in the right direction. Until then, I’ll also root for #8, he takes more crap from Buc fans who never had a line, running game or great tight ends. Either way we now have depth. Don’t award the position, let it be earned.
July 20th, 2015 at 10:30 pm
Never blocked you man. Spam filter must be picking it up for some reason.
July 20th, 2015 at 11:29 pm
Its cool Joe. I’ll stick to Yungry, just thought you blocked my comments on purpose. Please keep doing your thing. Go Bucs!

“Americas quarterback”? Are you delusional?
