It’s All About Jameis
July 28th, 2015When Joe is at One Buc Palace watching the first training camp practice Saturday and smelling the sweat of the cheerleaders, there will be a massive crowd there.
No, it won’t be just fans, but the national media will descend upon One Buc Palace. That’s a given. And it won’t be about Kwon Alexander.
Yes, it’s all about “America’s Quarterback,” Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston.
Need proof? Look at the words from Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports.
Jameis Winston, QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Yeah, it’s obvious. But what can I say, I’m dying to see how Winston’s charisma with teammates and willingness to take chances with his arm translate to the NFL level. He certainly has some offensive pieces to work with, although I’ve got a feeling he’s going to take a beating behind that offensive line. His physical toughness will be tested right away. First-round quarterbacks have really been boom or bust the last few years, and Winston won’t be any different. We’ll see very quickly in the preseason where the needle is pointing. If not Winston, I would have chosen small-school offensive guard Ali Marpet, who is going to have a huge adjustment when it comes to the strength and speed of NFL interior linemen.
Joe knows some Bucs fans grumble about how too much attention is paid to Jameis. C’mon, he’s not just the No. 1 pick in the draft, but he is also a quarterback. There is a reason Jameis draws the media — because the public cannot quench its thirst for Jameis content. Even Joe’s data shows spikes in readership thanks to the Bucs drafting Jameis.
Even before Jameis has taken a snap in the NFL, he’s the most recognizable athlete in Tampa Bay. Don’t try to deny it. Joe has rarely seen Dirtbag Longoria trend on Twitter. National sports shows don’t lead their broadcasts with Steven Stamkos.
Jameis? He’s everywhere. Because he’s “America’s Quarterback.”

I have learned to ignore the whole “America’s QB” schtick. Here is to hoping that one day JW can earn a cool nickname by himself.
Go BUCS!!!
July 28th, 2015 at 8:39 am
Buc-a-New you know he does that for facetious reasons right. Take it for the humorous thing it is. Jameis already earned that……..Famous Jameis.
July 28th, 2015 at 8:49 am
He does it for the combo of JW is so polarizing and to generate posts. As I said I have come to ignore it. I am a Gator who is Completely on board with JW. I am in the 8 win crowd.

Buc fans everywhere are eagerly waiting to see if Winston can help pull the team out of the funk it is currently trudging through. There lies most of the excitement looking forward.

Crossing the fingers!!! TB deserves a true Franchise QB. Tired of not having one. Hoping he’s it.
July 28th, 2015 at 8:58 am
This season is all about Jameis. I actually won’t leave my seat at rjs when the offense takes the field. Go Bucs

Hey Bucsfan37, I don’t do speed and I am a Gator –Buc

We already know where the “needle is pointing”. Its pointing to WINS. Because that’s what WINston does is WIN.
It’s about time we got our franchise QB. Good job L&L. Better times for this franchise are rapidly approaching.
July 28th, 2015 at 9:39 am
Jameis might get us 6 wins. But if we go beyond 6 wins, that is because of Dirk Koetter has made the most out of the o-line….
July 28th, 2015 at 9:57 am
There you go again Joe. He is not “America’s quarterback “, he is our Buc qb. Nothing else. Take us to the playoffs, then he can have a new nickname. Not yet! Go Bucs!
July 28th, 2015 at 10:03 am
With Koetter & Famous together it will be exciting if we can eventually have an offense that can put games out of reach. Just as long as Lovies conservative side doesn’t get in the way. If he can get defense even a semblance of that famous crew the Bucs will be dangerous once Famous gets acclimated to NFL football.

Hey TampaTony this might be empty to you but I apologize the way I came at you in another post. There was an underlying factor that fueled the anger but still I could have approached it better. My bad.
July 28th, 2015 at 11:10 am
Here’s my prediction: 8 wins, give or take 6.
July 28th, 2015 at 11:22 am
4-6 wins, sorry I have to see the product first.

Steven Stamkos was talked about alot on sports center. Pretty amazing since their hockey expert, Barry Melrose, hates Tampa.
And ESPN will just pretend the Rays dont exsist until they leave the Trop. National sponsors are praying the Rays miss the playoffs. They dont want anything to do with Tropicana field.
But it is nice to have a nationaly relevant NFL quarterback. I hope Jameis plays like I think he can.

Davidbigbucfan- No problemo. We are all fans, just diff views. Thanks though

Can anybody explain to me Joe’s disdain for Kwon Alexander? Because he was drafted in the fourth round and not the first he deserves to be mocked at every opportunity? He hasn’t even played a down and he gets disrespected on this site nearly daily, while Jameis gets virtual fellatio. I’m excited about Winston, too, but I don’t see why we have to throw other Bucs under the bus because they weren’t drafted as highly.

@Rich – Joe has archives available to all. In fact, Joe has written plenty of positive stuff about Alexander. Making stuff up about Joe is the best way to get booted. –Joe

Damn Joe some of these fans are cranky with you. Like someone is twisting their arm to be here.
Rich I’m pretty sure there will be plenty of Kwon articles this coming TC. As well as many other rookies.
Jameis is a shining star, whether he’s taken an NFL snap or not.

“Rich Says:

Man, I like the idea of the Bucs signing up for the Oculus VR technology. But, this might be distracting for him.

i’m hoping that eventually the go-to nickname for our franchise QB is just a shortening of his current name – “Jameis Wins”
