Takeaways Make Lovie Smile
June 16th, 2015If there is anything that Lovie Smith can be known for, it is turnovers. He hates turnovers worse than Joe hates warm beer. But defensive takeaways? Ah, now we’re talking ice cold Heineken.
In underwear football, the Bucs defense is going a good job batting away passes and picking off Bucs quarterbacks. Right now, with two minicamp practices to go, linebacker Danny Lansanah is leading for the prized bronzed Hanes briefs for stellar underwear football play.
Either way, Lovie is fired up to see this, as fired up as Lovie can be. So Joe asked him about takeaways.
“You like it, but again this is all setting up how we are going to play in the fall,” Lovie said. “We are trying to create a culture where that’s expected and I tend to think we are doing that. Some guys like (linebacker) Danny Lansanah did it last year. He continues to do it right now.
“Defensively, we’ve seen a lot of good things that we like right now. It will be good competition in training camp. What you really can’t do though is get too high or too low when nobody is in pads. Again, we just want to get in position and we have some players getting in position for playing, you know for training camp.”
Yes, it is nice to see in underwear football. But whether the players translate this to real football come September is the key.
Joe fears that with little or no expected pass rush from the edge, the Bucs are going to have to rely on turnovers to gain an edge, and banking on turnovers is always a risky game of chance.

Sorry Joe, you lost me at Heineken…..

@Joe didn’t take you for an import guy

Lovie will be smiling big time this season as we go 10-6.

Joe,
Nothing worse than a hot Heineken. I drank Heineken for years then my friend introduced me to Stella, best warm beer I’ve ever had. It’s pretty fckn good cold too!!!

Lots of ice cold Heineken for me on Sundays, with or without turnovers.

Lansanah has nothing to worry about. We need to be signing him to a long term contract now. He is a great playmaker and brings good size to stop the run at SLB. I predict our defense will be getting more turnovers this year.

Its too bad that they dropped so far with defensive turnovers from where Coach Schiano had the defense. But that is the defensive guru that is Lovie !!!!!

He played well in preseason too, but our coaches played Casillas in front of him.

David, Foster, and Lansanah sounds great to me. I’ve been asking for Lansanah over Casillas since the season started. Casillas can play special teams with Fletcher.

I agree with Ray Rice. Lasagna is definitely playing better than cassillas.

Not against imports. 🙂
June 16th, 2015 at 11:37 pm
Exactly. Why would you be against any kind of beer just based on region (import or domestic)?
Good beer is good beer, doesn’t matter where it’s made.

I’m a whiskey drinker myself, but if I buy beer 9 out of 10 times it’s Heineken, and Joe made me very thirsty earlier when he posted the word Heineken.

Was this about today?

Ah, 87 I’m with you. Whiskey is usually my my go to. On the rocks or with some ginger.

No pass rush and no little equals fewer turnovers. Don’t expect much improvement this coming year, or really until they get capable DE’s.

Lagavulin single malt whiskey here. Nothing melts away a loss or celebrates a win better.

Killians Irish red or Guinness on top of cider, just depends which ones on special and which one sounds better worth a Jameson pickle back shot. You couldn’t pay me enough to drink that light swill.

dude shut up greg schiano’s defenses were garbage and worse than last year’s defense. you seem to forget the offense had 1000+ rusher and freeman throwing for over 4000 yards. that’s the reason they won 7 games. 4 games the next year well ask glennon about that and this so called no fly zone where quarterbacks consistently went over the top and through the middle of his defense
