NFL Draft Day Two, Open Thread
May 1st, 2015So Jameis is a Bucs quarterback. Drafted, signed, introduced. He’s here, Bucs fans. Embrace or stand aside.
Soon, we will have another new Buccaneer, as the Bucs pick second tonight in the second round, and yes, there is the third-round later to monitor.
Bang your comments and thoughts here all night.
May 1st, 2015 at 6:02 pm
Lael Collins or Landon Collins…..Im really hoping Landon Collins though….could maybe land Lael in the 3rd.
May 1st, 2015 at 6:05 pm
Im hoping for a trade down and pick up some more early picks.
May 1st, 2015 at 6:06 pm
Let’s get this party started!
Part II.
May 1st, 2015 at 6:06 pm
When BPA intersects need…..OT/OG
May 1st, 2015 at 6:07 pm
Trade for someone’s first next year! Hope some team makes an offer
May 1st, 2015 at 6:15 pm
We could trade back 4 or 5 slots and still get a very good player of need….not naming names but there are at least 10 really good players (1st round caliber) available…..that might give us some ammunition to trade back up into the 2nd for another pick there.
May 1st, 2015 at 6:23 pm
I know some of you like to think that “Jameis Christ” the savior and liberator of our Bucs is invincible, but you can’t do sh!t without an O-line. L&L made the right call in round 1, now go get our new QB some got dang protection! A QB cannot win games if he’s on his ass all day.
May 1st, 2015 at 6:26 pm
Randy Gregory/TJ Clemmings/Jake Fisher/trade back!
May 1st, 2015 at 6:32 pm
Duh, I must of missed it, how come the Bucs don’t get the 33rd pick?
May 1st, 2015 at 6:38 pm
Would love to see Gregory and McCoy…
May 1st, 2015 at 6:38 pm
Steve K should be the GM, hope they do what you say.
May 1st, 2015 at 6:54 pm
Id rather have Jake Fisher than TJ Clemmings
May 1st, 2015 at 6:57 pm
Bucfan37,
The Titans and Bucs had identical losing records.
They alternate after the first round.
Bucs got the first on strength of schedule.
May 1st, 2015 at 7:02 pm
Think Fisher may prove to be best Left tackle.
Gotta draft Left. Tackle, then guard.
Next year- we get DEs and Lbs.
Let’s get that offense all the pieces first
May 1st, 2015 at 7:06 pm
Giants just traded up for #33
May 1st, 2015 at 7:07 pm
La’el Collins is involved in that murder without a doubt. His agent just said if he isn’t drafted tonight he’s not playing this year. Pretty much tells you all you need to know.
May 1st, 2015 at 7:07 pm
Prob Gregory or L. Collins
May 1st, 2015 at 7:09 pm
Bucs on the clock.
May 1st, 2015 at 7:11 pm
Dammit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
May 1st, 2015 at 7:12 pm
Giants just drafted Mark Barron Jr. Lol
May 1st, 2015 at 7:14 pm
Fisher or Smith….or a trade.
May 1st, 2015 at 7:15 pm
Not Barron jr. trust me….but think what you want.
May 1st, 2015 at 7:15 pm

“We going to win a Superbowl!!!”
There you have it, D. Smith said it first 😀 😀 😀
May 1st, 2015 at 7:21 pm
Thought we should have traded back but probably didn’t have a good offer…..like the pick…at least Oline….a very large person!!!
Go Bucs!!!
Lets pick another!!!
May 1st, 2015 at 7:21 pm
Not the pick I was hoping for, but same position. I like it!
May 1st, 2015 at 7:21 pm
Of course I don’t follow the Tide, but from his highlights and the endorsements from the analyst he sounds and looks just like Barron from 2012.
May 1st, 2015 at 7:22 pm
Big boy looks like a road grader!!!!!!
May 1st, 2015 at 7:23 pm
Keep building the line. Protect The Chosen One.
May 1st, 2015 at 7:23 pm
he could play guard
May 1st, 2015 at 7:24 pm
How can he be Baren? He’s a tackle, not mlb.
May 1st, 2015 at 7:24 pm
He’s reach, but he fills a need.
May 1st, 2015 at 7:24 pm
Raiders passed on Gregory, wow.
May 1st, 2015 at 7:26 pm
Now for Ali Marpet or Nate Orchard!
May 1st, 2015 at 7:26 pm
Go o-line in the 3rd and I’m a happy camper. Do whatever you want the rest of the way.
May 1st, 2015 at 7:28 pm
Bonzai I was talking about Collins.
May 1st, 2015 at 7:29 pm
(Right Guard Prospects)
-Tre Jackson
-John Miller
May 1st, 2015 at 7:32 pm
Good pick- I think he will stay at Left tackle. He has size and feet for it.
Great job- not many LTs available this draft.
Now there are some fantastic guards still out there- get one
May 1st, 2015 at 7:33 pm
Emerson Boozer still moving…haha good sh*t
May 1st, 2015 at 7:35 pm

Eventually we’ll address a D player.
May 1st, 2015 at 7:47 pm
Osh*t-I seriously hope Carolina don’t draft DGB
May 1st, 2015 at 7:49 pm
Thanks LUV, but so do you!!!!
I was on a roll yesterday Luv, then passed out after the Armstead pick. Been averaging 3 hours of sleep the last 5 days…..so much going on.

May 1st, 2015 at 7:52 pm
Yesssssss! At least he didn’t go to a Division Rival
May 1st, 2015 at 7:55 pm
@MadMax

May 1st, 2015 at 7:59 pm
Im not big on Kendricks though (prob why he’s still there)…..Id rather get Marpet or Orchard.
May 1st, 2015 at 8:02 pm
There’s a bunch of real good prospects left
Tre’ Jackson in the 3rd Round?
May 1st, 2015 at 8:06 pm
I know my guy Denzel Perryman will be off the board..smh
May 1st, 2015 at 8:15 pm
Marpet at center would be okay, but if the 2nd round pick is any cluse, they might be going after multi-role guys. If that is the case, it could be Mitch Morse. He plays both Guard and Center.
Eric Kendriks…if he is there still…wow. Kendriks is going to be very, very good.
Imagine if Fisher falls that far. We’d get two tackles. That would be a major haul.
May 1st, 2015 at 8:15 pm
Theres your guy Kendricks, LUV!
May 1st, 2015 at 8:16 pm
And there went Eric Kendricks 🙁

May 1st, 2015 at 8:30 pm
If Marpet is gone and Gregory is there in the 3rd….I say we go for him!
May 1st, 2015 at 8:31 pm
Sorry Bro 🙁
May 1st, 2015 at 8:33 pm
No to Gregory. Too many concerns. Positive drug test. Late to one team meeting, didn’t bother showing for another.
Those are some major red flags. 7th round maybe.
May 1st, 2015 at 8:34 pm
Well, he’ll probably be gone by then anyway.
May 1st, 2015 at 8:36 pm
Crap, Mayock better be wrong about Mitch. I want him.
May 1st, 2015 at 8:39 pm
La’el Collins in the 3rd!!!
May 1st, 2015 at 8:42 pm
Collins may be had in the bottom of the 3rd if we can move back up for him after selecting Marpet or Orchard.
May 1st, 2015 at 8:42 pm
If Gregory or Collins are there in the 3rd we better take them.
May 1st, 2015 at 8:43 pm
DAMMMMMMIT….there goes Orchard
May 1st, 2015 at 8:43 pm
@MadMax

May 1st, 2015 at 8:46 pm
There goes another LB…..Several Oline still left……
May 1st, 2015 at 8:46 pm
Look at all those OLs still on the board…
May 1st, 2015 at 8:47 pm
Linemen, Linemen
May 1st, 2015 at 8:48 pm
Yup!!!!!
Marpet and Gregory (or Collins) are my guys now. We prob dont need Collins now, but it would be nice if he’s able to play LT while Smith plays guard or RT.
May 1st, 2015 at 8:49 pm
T.J. Clemmings has a stress fracture in his foot, that he didn’t even know about. No pain. No surgery.
The thing about fractures…they become stronger when they heal properly.
Might be worth taking.
May 1st, 2015 at 8:51 pm
Icky Shuffle, WHOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
May 1st, 2015 at 8:51 pm
So much for Fisher.
May 1st, 2015 at 8:52 pm

May 1st, 2015 at 8:57 pm
Daryl Williams, OT, Oklahoma ….this guy 3rd rd BUCS
May 1st, 2015 at 8:59 pm
Look at all that talent left. Good draft for edge rushers.
May 1st, 2015 at 9:00 pm
Pulling for Cann or Tre Jackson. One of them + Smith should help our run game immensely.
May 1st, 2015 at 9:00 pm
Daryl Williams is an offensive guard
May 1st, 2015 at 9:01 pm
Cann would be good. Williams too.
May 1st, 2015 at 9:02 pm
will lovie really skip defense in round 3?
May 1st, 2015 at 9:02 pm
No Daryl Williams played RT
May 1st, 2015 at 9:04 pm
lurker…I hope he does, but I don’t see it.
May 1st, 2015 at 9:07 pm
8 more picks…. LOTS of linemen left.
May 1st, 2015 at 9:09 pm
Love the pick. Yes yes yes
May 1st, 2015 at 9:10 pm

May 1st, 2015 at 9:23 pm
Bucs traded 3rd and 4 th round pick????? Is that right?
May 1st, 2015 at 9:23 pm
Apparently we flipped with the Colts in the 4th round to flip with the Colts here.
May 1st, 2015 at 9:23 pm
Nfl network just said 3rd and 4th rounder???
May 1st, 2015 at 9:24 pm
Ali Marpet makes it worth it.
Getting a center allows us to move EDS to guard. Two spots fixed with one pick.
May 1st, 2015 at 9:24 pm
Damn I dozed off, and Senquez Golson went….I was singing that CB’s praises too.
May 1st, 2015 at 9:24 pm
Thanks, no problem!
May 1st, 2015 at 9:24 pm
WOW
May 1st, 2015 at 9:24 pm

May 1st, 2015 at 9:26 pm

http://www.nfl.com/draft/2015/profiles/ali-marpet?id=2552332
May 1st, 2015 at 9:26 pm

May 1st, 2015 at 9:27 pm
Pats wouldve got him, we had to trade up!
May 1st, 2015 at 9:27 pm
@MadMax
Lol, got your dude man. Is he better at center or LG though?
May 1st, 2015 at 9:28 pm
Ol’ Kenny Easley
May 1st, 2015 at 9:28 pm
Seems kinda unnecessary, maybe they thought GB was gonna take him tho.
May 1st, 2015 at 9:28 pm
@BucGator
That’s why I said these grades the rankings give are useless. They are out of whack every year.
May 1st, 2015 at 9:29 pm
Ali Marpet
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TigYhuttNVc
May 1st, 2015 at 9:29 pm
Nice, EDS can’t even snap the ball from the gun without rolling it. Marpet at C and EDS at RG.
But did we really have to trade?
May 1st, 2015 at 9:30 pm
Lol, Seattle can’t draft for sh*t since Scot Mccloughan left.
May 1st, 2015 at 9:30 pm
@LUV, Center or Guard…..he’ll be awesome at either.
We are protecting our shiny new QB!
May 1st, 2015 at 9:31 pm
it was a high price with the 4th round swap
May 1st, 2015 at 9:33 pm
Lol, I hear U..Hope we can trade back in the round and draft either
Tre’ Jackson
or
John Miller
May 1st, 2015 at 9:33 pm
Guys, this is a great pick.
Moving up for him is worth it. It didn’t cost much.
Consider this…Marpet plays guard, tackle AND Center. Another multi-positional player.
We now have the option of moving EDS to guard. So in two picks, essentially, they have addressed tackle, center and guard.
I have to say…Jason Licht (I’ll not call him Jason Lost any more) and Lovie Smith are impressing with these picks.
We’ll now have the ability to compete this year by mid season (once the oline gels and Winston adjusts).
If they hadn’t done this, we were looking at 2-3 years of drafts.
Now they can go after some defense.
May 1st, 2015 at 9:34 pm
You said it Bonzai!!! L&L is on a Roll!
May 1st, 2015 at 9:38 pm
Nah, he’s a great versatile pick up (LG/C). But we still need a right guard though
May 1st, 2015 at 9:38 pm
Let me just say this about Winston…
I was concerned he would be a diva and hold out a little for higher money. Instead he signed his contract the day after being drafted.
I was wrong. He impressed me by doing it.
May 1st, 2015 at 9:39 pm
This is the dream draft. I think i actually had a dream this draft happened.
May 1st, 2015 at 9:40 pm
He’s play center. EDS will move to RG for this year. We can address RG in the next draft if we still have to. EDS sucks as center, but he at least knows how to block.
May 1st, 2015 at 9:41 pm
There went Cann.
May 1st, 2015 at 9:41 pm
He’s a project. This may be a good guy down the line. But I wouldnt expect much from him initially.
Not sure we have the luxury to draft projects.
May 1st, 2015 at 9:43 pm
Fans are up there bashing him in the Marpet article…
May 1st, 2015 at 9:44 pm
What impressed me about the trade is that Jason Licht did not give away a pick. I didn’t think he had such a trade in him.
I thought for sure if he traded up it would cost us 2-3 picks.
Instead, we just swapped picks in both rounds. That isn’t a bad deal at all when you look at the countless other trades happening so far. EVERYONE ELSE has given up picks.
Well done, Jason Licht.
May 1st, 2015 at 9:45 pm
@Jerry
Then we should leave the draft now, because EVERY PLAYER in the draft is a project. Don’t let people fool you. Even Winston will take time to click.
May 1st, 2015 at 9:49 pm
Bonzai…we don’t have a 3rd round pick too.. we just moved up a few notches and lost our 3rd for Marpet.
May 1st, 2015 at 9:52 pm
YES i think this is a great draft so far. way to go bucs, this draft makes so much more sense than last year when we went tight end and rb. positions that werent dire needs even evans wasnt the biggest need last year. but this year is a different story.
got jameis finally a qb that might not be the worst in the division. and two offensive lineman that will probably start and might actually play well this year. great job licht
May 1st, 2015 at 9:53 pm
We didn’t LOSE our 3rd rounder, we turned it into a 2nd rounder. That’s called an upgrade.
May 1st, 2015 at 9:57 pm
Bpnzai…oh yah I have no problem with moving up a few notches, so long as he was not going to be there in the 3rd anyways…
Seems to me he would have been there anyways.
May 1st, 2015 at 9:59 pm
I’m still a happy Bucs fan though. O-line works for me. Let Lovie shift back over to D the rest of the way if he wants…
May 1st, 2015 at 10:05 pm
@Buc1987
Gotta protect that shiny new QB you wanted, especially if you want him to live past his first season.
We will never truly know if Marpet would have still been there. Saying otherwise is pure guess work.
Why take the risk? Licht gave up very little. Less than any other team in the draft that traded up. Best value trade in the draft so far.
May 1st, 2015 at 10:08 pm
Got two guys from my wish list. Here’s what’s left
Defensive End
Marcus Hardison
Danielle Hunter
Tight End/Halfback/Fullback
Nick O’Leary
Offensive Wide Reciever/Returner
Kenny Bell
Punter
Spencer Roth
May 1st, 2015 at 10:09 pm
Safety would be nice as well.
May 1st, 2015 at 10:10 pm
It’s really difficult for me to believe that one of the 3 teams we jumped were going to take Marpet…..surely he would have been there for us and we didn’t need to trade up.
But…I don’t have the info the Bucs have….perhaps they knew NE or Seattle or Pack wanted him…..
Also…it seems to me we could have traded down earlier and still gotten Smith…..but again….you just have to trust Licht.

NE wouldve jumped all over him if he was still there!
We just fixed our O line guys! Smith at LT (give him some time) Marpet at Center, and EDS to RG….plus now Dotson can remain in the neighborhood he knows, RT.
We are well on our way to winning 8 games next year. Big improvement.

I’m just glad they got help in the trenches Tampabaybucfan and did not do a dexter Jackson with the 2nd or 3rd round pick thought the trade up is a bit puzzling; some think that NE or Seattle wanted the Hobart kid thus the trade…. BTW I posted this elsewhere but since this is a open draft thread:
Just looking at the picks in the third round and I have a question: how the hell did the Pats get a compensatory pick at the end of round 3 along with KC and the Bengals. The Bengals probably got theirs for the Bucs signings of that ****ing bust Collins and Mike Johnson but how does NE get these picks every ***ing year? Note that the Bucs never merit a compensatory pick and it always seems like the rich teams like the Pats and Dallas always get a few of these beauties that clog up the ends of the later rounds….

I think people worry too much about the trade itself, when they should look at the result more.
The Bucs got a franchise quarterback.
Then, instead of putting him behind the crap line of last year, they drafted to protect him.
As a result, our offense may well be able to compete by halfway through the season. If we can get a few wins before that, we might have a shot at the division.
Much better than I expected.
I’m not predicting 8+ wins, but I’m admitting it is possible with out offense now.
MUCH IMPROVED SO FAR.
Be excited.

Well, I’m off for the night. Gonna finish watching and then pass out.

I’m not worried about the trade at all. As I think they were going after Gregory and just missed.
All I’ve been saying is draft o-line in 2nd and the 3rd after they draft The Chosen One.
Let Lovie go get some defensive scraps out there if there is anything left that late in the 4th round and then with the 5th round pick.
To me this draft is over anyways…
