This is the first time I realized how sports really keep them up, keep them happy. — Jameis Winston
The Buccaneers rookies headed over to James A. Haley veterans hospital to visit with those receiving care there.
Per the official team video, it was a real learning experience for America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, who was impressed by the men he met — and the impact he and his teammates have on him.
Of course, it’s not mandatory for Jameis to take this time. And people think he’s a monster. Joe’s shaking his head.

Like you I’m a Vet and I actually spent close to a week once in Haley. I have such great respect for what they do there.
As for Fameis visit it saddens me that we must be so negative.
And trust me, these photo ops are absolutely pre-arranged by the Bucs to try to re-create the image of a kid that created a bad image quite well on his own.
Yes of course that is a possibility. It’s also possible that Fameis was truly touched by the experience. And what is most likely is that both things occurred. Fameis was touched and learned from the experience but of course the Bucs appreciate the good PR.
But if we question EVERYBODY’s intentions every time they try and do something good for their community it’s a sad day in America.
I suspect we COULD actually give Fameis the benefit of the doubt here…maybe he IS growing up and learning new things.

Winston, as well as other athletes at FSU, colleges/universities around the country, and professional sports teams, give back to the community throughout the year. This is nothing new for Winston and part of who he is as a person. He’s been doing it long before becoming a BUC and will do it long after as well. Wake up, support your team, and quit being a damn negative hater. You look pathetic when you post. If you don’t want to read about him, then stay out of the article. You know, I’ve pretty much stood on the sidelines until the draft was over just to keep out of the mud slinging and hateful invective being thrown everywhere. I was content to trust L&L to choose correctly and back their choice as a Bucs fan. I even understand the level of hero worship that the Joes have toward JW3, after months of anxiety, it’s ok to relish the moment.
I do have to draw the line in my understanding though, when in either your haste to get the article out, or your starry eyed worship of the so called “America’s QB”, you allow a Freudian slip and misname James A. Haley Veterans Hospital in your photo. I mean, come on. Maybe it was an honest mistake on your part, maybe it wasn’t. But don’t you think the kid should earn something before you so hastily rename the VA Hospital? Yeah, I am a veteran, and yeah, that really annoyed the $hit outta me when I saw that. It made me seriously wonder about where your head is at, and then ponder if maybe there are better things for me to do than to browse this site in the hopeless quest for relevant items of interest.

Personally I like Winston as ‘America’s Quarterback’. For all the abuse he’s taken on trivial and unwarranted nonsense, and the way he stood tall through it all, he’s earned some big time consideration. Yeah, he’s got to put it on the field yet, but history shows he is likely to do it. Go Winston. Go Bucs.

As far as misnaming the hospital ‘Jameis’ I suspect it was not an accident but a little having fun with the fans, just like ‘America’s quarterback’. Joe’s a little giddy right now. He finally got his guy. Thank the stars he didn’t get his ‘Johnny Football’ guy last year. We Buc fans were saved from that one.

He should of also came over to BayPines VA hospital. I’m less than two miles away and would have made the trip to see him in person. I was first at BayPines in February 1956 to see my WW2 dad hospitalized there. I know some might say it has been renamed C.W. Bill Young VA, but it will always be BayPines to many vets.

No Espo, this is set up by the same people that always set up these community service outings. All teams do this and we’ve seen the Bucs players do this every year. ON CAMERA!! ALWAYS!! Joe just had an article about Doug Martin and the vets, this one was for the Rookies. Winston wasn’t the only one there. Did they put the video out to help PR? Maybe. But teams that don’t have Jameis Winston do this all of the time. Winston didn’t have to go. He could have said “screw you, I got my money! But he didn’t. He went and did what he should. If the rookies went there and Winston didn’t go you would be up in arms about that. I guess he can’t do anything right.

Ok…I’m a veteran and served my county in Iraq, and honestly I can’t believe a couple post from fellow brethren on here about the VA Hospital. Guys, lighten up. If you served, you’ll know there are alot more things to give s $hit about than having fun with renaming the hospital after “OUR STARTING QB”. C’mon man. ISIS is recruiting our young people and waging war in our country and THIS pisses you off? Seriously get your head out our arse. It’s not like he said United States of (Jameis) or something about our country.

Come on, Joe this isn’t the first time an athlete who gets paid millions to play a game for a living has done something like this, character aside. I’m not saying Jameis did this just to boost his reputation or anything, I don’t think he’s a bad person.
But let’s not forget how much of a thug people thought Mike Williams was when they ran him outta town and conveniently forgot that he took time out of his privileged life to hang out with that one dude who had a horrible disease and was his biggest fan.
