“I Like Winston More”
May 5th, 2015As one can imagine, five days after the Bucs selected Jameis Winston as not just the No. 1 overall pick, but the man to help lead Tampa Bay out of the NFL abyss, his selection is still the talk at One Buc Palace.
Yes, even Bucs vets are talking Jameis, including wide receiver Mike Evans. The second-year man from Texas A&M, a first round pick himself last year, has been nothing less than a home run selection. Even he confessed his ears perked up when the Bucs drafted Winston.
Evans talked about the challenges he faced as a rookie. When asked who he would have picked last Friday night if he were Bucs general manager Jason Licht, Evan didn’t blink.
“Out of [Winston] and Mariota, I like Winston more,” Evans said. “He doesn’t run as much. With that at being said, he will come in and do well for us. I am excited to have him. He can play ball. He can sit in the pocket and deliver the ball. That is more opportunities for a receiver.
“But Mariota can play ball as well. I did my time with a mobile quarterback. It was fun. In this league, it is tough to scramble. I think Jameis will be fine. … He is a great player. I watched him throughout his college career. He can hang in that pocket and deliver the ball.”
Remember early this year when Winston’s lawyer, David Cornwell, created a dust storm when he said Jameis and every college player is unprepared for the NFL? Evans suggested he can now relate to that theory.
“Being in [Winston’s] position last year, my head was spinning,” Evans said. “I was going crazy. It is an exciting time, though. [Winston] should enjoy it and come ready to work [this weekend at the rookie minicamp].
“I don’t think [transitioning to the NFL] will be a big challenge for [Winston]. He’s a confident guy. Real smart guy. He’s a quarterback. For me, we had a lot of veteran receivers last year and they helped me along the way. He will have a lot of help here [for Winston]. He will be fine.”

Can’t wait to see if ME can put up 1500 yards with a QB that actually has a coordinator and a decent OL. Learn fast JW!

Our nucleus of playmakers set us apart from the other “crappy” teams. And now we have a quarterback with the talent to make good use of them. 1-0 here we come!

Can’t wait to see some serious production out of these three:
ASJ, Sims, Bell……

Was he going to say he likes Mariota more?

No, but he could have given the politically correct answer and said……I leave the personnel decisions to Jason and Lovie. My job is to play with whomever they bring in. He didn’t say that. Not sure if you know but it was reported many on the team let it be known they wanted the bucs to draft Winston. I would not be surprised if Evans was one of the players in the ear of the GM before the draft.

Scrambling QBs are overrated.
Go thru the QBs in the top 10 of sacks. Names like Bortles, Tannehill, Alex Smith, Kap, Cam Newton, Russell Wilson. All in the top 10. All sacked at least 38 times last season.
Winston wil be fine. Because he can read a defense. And go through his progressions.

^^^^Screw political correctness.

That was not a jab at you TIM. I just think political correctness has pussified America. I know you were not calling for political correctness in your post.

Wholeheartedly agree. Its because of political correctness we vilify a 19 year old kid for doing things we all did.

He switched up because winston is his QB because he said mariota after the last game.

People are talking about Winston because we badly needed a Qb and the rest of the draft was forgettable for the Bucs.

I would just like to see ASJ and Sims actually on the field. Rainey is still our best back and nobody knows anything about ASJ. Probably why we tried to sign a Clemson basketball player.

Sky
There was also a big body TE/WR at the Miami pro day. At first I thought it was the same guy but nope. Finding those former bb players is the way to go. Aka Mike Evans, Vincent Jackson, Antonio gates, randy moss.

the clemson basketball player is Rod Hall he’s a 6’1″ and 200 pound point guard… they most likely want him as a corner or safety like the Packer’s 2nd round pick Quinten Rollins

Evans never said Mariota. We already killed that lie months ago. But you can still look for proof/article where he prefers Mariota over Winston. Go ahead, I’ll wait……….

Like the way Evans assumes that there will be a pocket for Winston to “sit in”…..the only pockets last year were on Lovie’s trousers.
May 5th, 2015 at 6:58 pm
We won’t get the Clemson guy because we required him to come to rookie camp this weekend and he can’t make it. Saints and somebody else offered him a contract as well with no requirement.
May 5th, 2015 at 8:39 pm
I respect Evans’ opinion because he played with a scrambler in college.
May 5th, 2015 at 10:23 pm
If you folks are having a difficult time realizing just how dynamic of a duo WINSton to Evans is about to be I simply feel the sorriest for you.
May 6th, 2015 at 10:26 am
I actually tweeted winston to Evans for the next 10 years while Evans was balling out against the Redskins
May 6th, 2015 at 1:39 pm
Winston to Evans is going to rival Caulpepper to Moss, Brady to Moss, Peyton to Demaryious, Romo to Dez, Ben to A. Brown…
Plus on the other side we have a proven veteran beast in VJ. I’m just iinterested to see if this ASJ or any of these other receivers have NFL ready game. Read some decent reports on Kenny Bell
