Jameis Watch: Bet On Jameis
April 8th, 2015Crab-legs-stealing, BB-gun-shooting, obscenity-hollering, Heisman-Trophy-winning, former national champion Jameis Winston, the pride of Florida State University, continues to look like a much better quarterback prospect than Mike Glennon.
It’s Joe’s daily nugget on the Jameis Watch, celebrating the best quarterback ever to wear No. 5 in the state of Florida.
One of the two Joes who runs this here corner of the Interwebs is not a gambling guy.
When “this Joe” dabbled in NFL gambling, nothing p!ssed him off more than watching a game and worrying about a stupid point spread… for what? The team he wanted to win was already winning! Joe was stressed out for no good reason.
For “this Joe,” it ruined the joy of watching football, the chess match, the athletic ability of the players, the magic that comes from good football. Besides, Joe can find a boatload of better ways to throw away money.
So you won’t catch “this-Joe” ever in Vegas. What’s the point of going to Vegas if you don’t gamble, so you can look at a damned damn? Joe grew up near one. Big f’ing deal. Phoenix likely will be the closest Joe gets to Vegas.
For others who do actually find a good time in throwing away money, Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher has wagering advice for you.
The advice? Bank on Jameis Winston, Fisher told the creator, curator and overall guru of Pro Football Talk, the great Mike Florio of NBC Sports Radio’s Pro Football Talk Live.
In short, Fisher is telling gamblers to run to Vegas and lay cash on Winston suits up for the Bucs at quarterback this fall, documents Safid Deen of the Tallahassee Democrat.
“If I was betting in Vegas, that’s what I would bet on,” Fisher said. “But you can’t guarantee that.”
That’s about as inside information as you will get. There is no question Fisher has met with the Bucs more than once; likely will again today with the Bucs at FSU for another workout with Winston. Joe personally saw Bucs brass walk away with Fisher for quieter surroundings at the FSU pro day last week.
Just FYI, Fisher told Florio the two FSU sleepers flying well under the radar of draft gurus are defensive linemen Mario Edwards and Eddie Goldman.

Been to Vegas twice and had a great time both occasions, however I do agree that gambling is typically a losing proposition. Casinos do not get so big and elaborate by the house losing. Now Winston being our new QB, well that is a solid bet.

this guy will be the starter day one. can’t wait till we finally get our franchise QB.
go bucs!

Albert Breer is reporting that he’s been “told” Mariota is not out of the running for the first pick. No sources named.
April 8th, 2015 at 9:20 am
I will be betting in Vegas. And I will be betting that Mariota is our draft pick. Yep, I’m a genius. (Maybe not to the whackos, but u realize it in a few weeks)

“robert 10”. LOL, great name.
April 8th, 2015 at 9:23 am
@Erik – If you were a genious you would know that predicting the future does not make you a genius. If anything, it would make you clairvoyant. In this case, however, you are neither.

*genius. auto-correct strikes again

You never really know until the pick comes. I’m comfortable with either at this point.
However, I do believe Winston has more faults than his fans wish to admit.

@robert 10
You’re much more palatable now that you’re a year older.
April 8th, 2015 at 9:35 am
I’m not a betting guy either, but it seems like Winston is probably the guy at this point.
Enjoyed watching Coach Gruden and Marcus Mariota last night…miss Chucky as the Bucs head coach! Thought Mariota came across very well. Still a bit on the quiet side, but good sense of humor, likeable and unflappable (a great trait for an NFL QB!)!
Looking forward to seeing Winston on the show later in the week…and speaking of Winston….The new season of Deadliest Catch is back on next Tuesday! Not sure why that popped into my head while talking about Winston, but if you enjoy the Discovery Channel show about Alaskan fisherman battling mother nature to catch crabs….Ok, now I know why that popped into my head!

Is there a website for Vegas odds on who is picked first? Mariota has to be a big underdog at this point. Which would be a big payday if he were actually picked. But, my inclination is Erik is setting himself up for disappoint and financial loss…and a jersey for 87.

Book it! 21 days. Can’t wait.
April 8th, 2015 at 9:44 am
the bucs would not have flown across country yesterday to have a private workout with mariota on the west coast if they were sold on Winston. as they said on nfl network on tv yesterday because the bucs have the 1# overall pick they do not have to play head games/ smoke and mirrors like people picking below the bucs do. nobody can jump ahead of the bucs.
the nfl network said yesterday the bucs are still considering mariota or…they are acting like they want mariota so some coach would mortgage their franchise and trade up to get mariota.
April 8th, 2015 at 10:02 am
The Bucs are talking up Mariota and people think it’s because they’re wavering on Jameis. Not true, it could easily be a negotiation tactic to deal with signing Winston. No matter who gets picked #1, they will make pretty much the same money, but WHAT is put into the contract…like staying out of trouble incentives and penalties, not playing baseball, etc can be inserted…and if Jameis knows he’s the #1 pick, he won’t HAVE to agree to the added clauses. Good negotiating move by the Bucs. “You don’t want to agree to our terms? That’s okay, we’ll take Mariota, it’s well documented that we like him a lot too.”
April 8th, 2015 at 10:18 am
I bet you that Barry will act like an a$$hole today.
April 8th, 2015 at 10:38 am
Winston just has that dumb uneducated look to him. Don’t you think?

On their return trip Lovie and company probably stopped off in Vegas to lay down a bet after watching Mariota do his thing. They likely doubled down on Winston as their first pick.

Rather not draft off the field issue thug
