Classy “Hawk” Says Goodbye

April 3rd, 2015
Dashon-Goldson

Former Bucs safety Dashon “Hawk” Goldson had kind words for Bucs fans on his way out the door.

Joe knows there are plenty of anti-Hawk Goldson types because he wasn’t able to play to the level he did when he made his bones with the 49ers.

That’s fair.

Goldson, however, offered a classy gesture today, as news broke that he was traded to the Redskins. He had heartfelt words for Bucs fans in saying adios to the area.

@thehawk38: To Buc Nation, I’m sorry things didn’t workout the way we both wanted them to. If you haven’t heard I’ll be pursuing my goals now with the Washington Redskins. I’ve learned a lot in the 2 yrs spent there and it has been an honor to be part of the Buc nation, to play for the buccaneers and share my time with the community.

This is the Hawk that Joe knows, a guy who always had kind words for folks in the Bucs locker room. It’s just too bad he became known more for drawing flags for his ferocious hits than his play.

    Wish him well.

  2. Dreambig Says:

Its sad this didn’t work out. The Bucs are wasted a ton of money and here is another position that will have a new starter with out having to beat out the last guy. Hopefully theire will be an open competition for the spot and have the best man win rather than freely handing the job to the new guy like Lovie did routinely last year.

  3. Aaron Says:

    The game changed on him

  4. robert 9 Says:

lynch would have been bad given todays rules. wish the guy the best

  5. Bucsfanman Says:

Best of luck Dashon, as long as it’s not against us!

That was classy of him. Good luck Dashon.

I can’t say I’m sorry to see him go though. More addition by subtraction.

    Good luck to the guy.

  12. ToesOnTheLine! Says:

Yup good dude. I know he got overpaid, but I still feel kind of bad for the guy going from a franchise like the 49’ers and downgrading ever since (crazy as it sounds I do honestly believe there is more hope for the Bucs than the Redskins as long as Snyder is the owner and bum knee RGIII is the starting QB)

  13. Ray Rice Says:

RG3 will throw him under the bus in no time!

  14. bucs4lyfe Says:

so the dead money is more than likely why they haven’t done big things in free agency this year.

  15. WS99 Says:

All you did was weaken a nation today kaffee

Godspeed goldson I’ll miss you head hunting.

  16. bucs4lyfe Says:

leaders left on the defense are lavonteand GMC, don’t know much about bruce carter ability in that area….setting up nicely for some 1st overall quarterback to come in and take over. mike evans should get a captain badge but no one on that entire offensive line should have a C on their jersey

Yes, after P Diddy got a headstart and Goldson ran half-assed(half-fast). Come on man. Wish the dude well and move on.

can you think of anything scuff daddy didn’t cheat at?

  20. BuccoBill Says:

Classy guy and a great player by “old-school” standards. I wish we had him back in the days when defenses were allowed to play football.

  21. BringBucsBack Says:

What did the Bucs get in return?

  22. ShutTheBucUp Says:

Farewell Hawk. Thanks for all of the penalties…

  23. John McKillop Says:

    Good luck Hawk!

  24. csidedave Says:

Please don’t say he would have flourished in the John Lynch era. He would have drawn fewer suspensions but he still wouldn’t have been a star.

We traded him for a late round pick and that is one of the very few times you ever heard “Goldson” and “Pick” in the same sentence.

  25. Waterboy Says:

I agree with the comments on the game changing on him. I sometimes wonder if Ronnie Lott would’ve been a hall of famer if he played in today’s game.

  26. Sam Says:

Class act….as others have said…..game changed around him and he had a hard time adjusting.

  27. LUVMYBUCS Says:

If he played for the bucs he would have been traded to the Rams or Redskins or something. #steveyoung

Either I’m old school or stupid (prob stupid) but to me a safety does not int a lot of passes, safeties are there to punish receivers. CBs pick off passes, safeties make rcvs think twice about catching the ball. Sure if the ball hits his hands, duh, but a safety is the last line of defense not a int machine.

  30. Nose Tackle Says:

    a lousy 6th rd pick…wtf

  31. Sick of the debate Says:

Good luck Hawk. Take it easy on Vjax and Evans if we play against you.

  32. Arealbucsfan Says:

    Good luck Dashon

  33. Capt.Tim Says:

Good luck, Hawk. Meybe the ‘skins will be smart enough to put you back at Strong safety. The Bucs stupidly took a pro bowl strong safety, and played him at free safety.

They did so- to try and cover up yet another stupid mistake. Drafting the talentless Mark””can’t cover” Barron.

Congrats on escaping. “The stupid” is nauseatingly strong here. Hope you prosper at your new aviary! You deserved better than you got here

  34. MadMax Says:

So should we sign p-diddy since he’s a faster runner than you? Lol, na, jk, good luck….you made out big time with getting paid by us. Maybe you were misused, I dont know. If that really is the case, I hope Licht is working OVERTIME figuring out this kind of BS and fixing it! If its not true, then ya, be classy and nice while exiting because you collected millions while doing very little….well other than collecting penalties.

  35. AfroBuc Says:

Best wishes to you Dashon. Class gentleman on TV and in the community allways.

  36. BoJim Says:

You’re still The Hawk. Good luck.

  37. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Goodbye Squawk….

  38. Buccanr1 Says:

Agree with A-Aron 100. The game saving hits became game losers.

  39. Trubucfan22 Says:

He was a team leader. The locker room will miss him, the field won’t.

  40. P'cola Buc Says:

Too many rule changes stripped Golson of his natural tackling technique. That plus not a natural cover 2 guy. Coming to Tampa seems to have a humbling influence on players. Hope that changes when Winston takes the field.

  41. bucfever40 Says:

It’s too bad his position is being neutered, Dashon could flat out bring the wood, in the first game against the Jets a couple years ago, he made a couple hits that were flagged just for the violence of the hits, something John Lynch made a career out of, in today’s NFL big hits just run the risk of being penalized regardless of where the target is.

It’s too bad we only got to see a small sample of Goldson’s best, let’s hope his replacement can seize the moment and redefine the position by being a tackling machine!

  42. Jim Says:

The game has changed and left players like Goldson behind.
