How dare the Tennessee Titans invite the heir apparent to the Tampa Bay throne to their Nashville facility for a private workout!
And Jameis Winston accepted, per ProFootballTalk.com and 24/7 Sports.
Speculation in the ProFootballTalk.com piece claims this indicates Winston has not been assured by the Buccaneers that they will draft him No. 1 overall. The Titans own the No. 2 overall pick.
Joe finds that almost ludicrous.
If Joe were running the Bucs, Joe would want Winston to visit all kinds of teams and coaches. What a fantastic learning experience for Winston. And it can serve as another test of Winston’s ability to stay out of trouble while traveling the country.
Great. Let Ken Whisenhunt push Winston to the limit on the field and in the classroom. Beautiful.

What do you think of that? All those high torque throws stacked a day before or after a pro day – also could the titans schedule his workout before his pro day so he could lose worse in his pro day from fatigue of workout and travel and fall to them? I think PFT is probably right and he hasn’t been assured yet. Why does he need more practice interviewing for jobs? Is he going to visit knowing he is going to the Bucs and just lie to the Titans about it? Seems like a waste of time if that’s the case.

This is rather insane. He’s not going to wear out over a pro day. He’s going to be throwing the ball plenty all summer, all season, all the time. It’s not an issue. Never has been, never will be.

If I am Jameis, unless I have a contract in front of me that I am ready to sign, I go visit the Titans. To my knowledge, the Bucs have not extended any offer to him yet. So he is doing what any smart person would do in the same position.

In 2012 Everyone knew that the Colts were going to select Andrew Luck with the first pick. RGIII, the next highest ranked QB even turned down a visit to Indy because there was really no point in it. I think the situation here today is different. While Winston is a talented QB, I don’t know that he (or Mariota for that matter) is considered the same kind of slam-dunk talent that Luck was coming out of Stanford. Therefore I think it’s wise for him (and Mariota) to visit any team in the top 10-20 that are interested in having them. It’s also smart for the teams…since no one knows for sure what the Bucs will do at #1! The Bucs might take Winston at #1…or the Titans might be so impressed with him that they offer a few extra picks to the Bucs to trade down one spot! It just goes to show that ALL THE OPTIONS are still on the table at this point!

How many times have we heard about prospects being guaranteed by a team that they will draft them, and then it doesn’t happen? You hear it all the time. Even though its safe to assume the bucs will draft Winston, there are never any guarantees, unless the bucs made it official now. But why would they? It would only take some of the luster out of the first pick on draft day, and the NFL is nothing without drama, hate to say.

It’s interesting to me that people compare Winston to Johnny Football due to their off field issues as a reason why Jameis might be a bust. Johnny Football might be the biggest reason why I think Marcus might be a bust. Similar type college offense responsible for putting up ridiculous numbers that don’t translate to the pros. Same offense that made Nick Folls look like an all pro and don’t forget Mark Sanchez.

The only way I would for sure draft him without question is if he GUARANTEED IN WRITING that a baseball career will NEVER come before playing football in the NFL.

Everyone saying winston isnt a slam dunk prospect, like luck, should try and remember what luck did in college to warrant that type of praise..my opinion is the stanford connection has been as positive for him in football as it wldve been in the business world. Understandably, youd like your franchise qb to be a saint with above average intelligence. How about a player who played on higher level in college, has equal love for the game, and is equally intelligent in the class/film room and just might be a more electric leader/playmaker..and as someone whose admired and followed qbs for 30+ years, jameis and aaron rodgers are 1, 2, as far as my views of their potential coming out..aaron vs usc and jameis vs pitt (his debut) were the 2 best pocket qb performances ive seen the last 15-20 years, easily, probably more..i wldnt even take rg’esque trade for jameis..that much potential

Just in case you didn’t know Rodgers sat for his first 3-4 years to develop. The Bucs are expecting Jamie’s to come in and start right away, not a good way to bring a rookie QB along in the NFL. I don’t know why I’m telling you anything though, you’ve been watching QBs for 30 yrs… Please man. What they do in college doesn’t mean a thing, except that they most of the time trick NFL teams to draft the with the number one overall pick, and then when the play in a league where everyone is good with a few great players in the mix as well. That’s when they realize that the NFL is for men with talent, not immature kids with talent.
Jamies is still an immature kid, and for him to be good he’d need to watch for a few years on the NFL to see what it takes to be a man with talent.
But hey everyone don’t take my word for it @tval been watching QBs for 30 yrs so he knows it all. QB is the Hardest position to judge, that’s why NFL teams miss a lot more often than get it right.
