Prepare For Blowback
March 4th, 2015So it is clear the Bucs have a frontrunner for their No. 1 overall selection in the NFL draft come April 30. It’s easy to conclude it’s Jameis Winston.
Yesterday, the Bucs hosting Winston at One Buc Palace got so much run, and the Bucs pimped the visit so much, it nearly pushed aside Israeli prime minster Bibi Netanyahu’s landmark speech before a joint session of Congress.
(For the conspiracy theorists: No, Joe doesn’t think this is a smokescreen in the least. 1. Joe spoke with a high-level Bucs official a few weeks ago and asked him about the Bucs using Winston as a smokescreen. Said Bucs official chuckled out loud and asked Joe, with his arms spread wide in disbelief, “Why do we need to have a smokescreen? We dictate the draft.” 2. The Bucs are not going to concoct a Steven Spielberg-like production that involved both the marketing arm of the Bucs, in addition to the media relations staff [two wholly separate wings], to create an elaborate smokescreen that looked like an NFL version of “Gone with the Wind.” No.)
However, the Bucs bringing in Winston and making sure the whole world knew their love of the Florida State quarterback will set up a massive blowback, predicts Joe’s good friend Jason McIntyire, lord of TheBigLead.com.
All signs point to Tampa going after Winston, but keep an eye out for some “sources” taking shots at the QB after his visit to Tampa. You know those sources – reporters who claim to have inside knowledge on these meetings, but really are just guessing to create a juicy storyline.
It is bound to happen. Agents for, say, Marcus Mariotta, will be burning up cell phone minutes calling anyone with a friendly ear and access to a keyboard or a microphone to drop information like Winston farted at dinner with Team Glazer, or Winston mocked out loud Josh McCown’s quarterbacking skills.
So get ready folks. Should be a fun eight-week run. Buckle up.

I have knowledge of a lot of $hit too. I read the internet daily. Lmfao

Off field concerns” that’s all they have
March 4th, 2015 at 3:05 pm
I love it. The Tampa Bay Buccanneer’s FIRST FRANCHISE QB!!!!
Even Lovie can’t screw this up!
March 4th, 2015 at 3:05 pm
Can’t wait until after Mariota’s pro day when he gets to OBP. What will Joe and them all say then.
March 4th, 2015 at 3:06 pm
By the way Joe, do you have proof that Winston didn’t fart at dinner with Team Glazer.
March 4th, 2015 at 3:09 pm
Maybe Doug Williams will lift the second curse he put on us.
March 4th, 2015 at 3:09 pm
Would mocking McCown’s QB skills be seen as a negative?
March 4th, 2015 at 3:10 pm
Pro Days are not held at an NFL facility.
March 4th, 2015 at 3:11 pm
first franchise qb?
doug williams, vinnie testaverde, trent dilfer, josh freeman we’re all “franchise qbs”
March 4th, 2015 at 3:11 pm
Uh, Harry Says, do you really believe what you just said? We’re talking Bucs here. Or, did you think you were in Cleveland?
March 4th, 2015 at 3:12 pm
Wait a minute. Isn’t that what ALL reporters do… claim to have ‘inside’ knowledge, “but really are just guessing to create a juicy storyline.”?
And do you really think that mocking “Josh McCown’s quarterbacking skills” will be considered in an unfavorable light?
The Bucs dictate ONE pick in the draft. After that, the Titans ‘dictate’ the draft. With Winston and Mariota as the top two QBs in the draft, most teams ‘desperately’ needing a QB will gladly take either. That means that the SECOND pick of the draft will be holding the aces.
The proof is in the contract. *IF* Winston/Mariota is the Buccaneers absolute choice, they will have a contract worked out BEFORE the draft. Otherwise, they are doing what is good for the ‘business’ end of the team… smokescreen.

*********
No kidding. Which is why I said AFTER Mariota’s pro day when he gets to OBP.
March 4th, 2015 at 3:13 pm
Joe,
He said he can’t wait till AFTER mariota’s pro day…meaning he’s arriving after the pro day…
March 4th, 2015 at 3:23 pm
the second quarterback in the draft (mariotta) needs this pro day bad. if mariotta is picked just like everyone admits then it’s because of Winston’s off field drama not actual quarterbacking skills. mariotta second best qb is probably trying to set Winston up to take the fall for some kind of scandal so he can go first lol
March 4th, 2015 at 3:24 pm
the bucs will get a miniaturized preview of any PR flak they might expect should they choose him 4/30. hopefully what they see is angry racists and semi-literate mouthbreathers expressing outrage and retreating from the fan base
March 4th, 2015 at 3:24 pm
I don’t know….it doesn’t sound like Mariota really wants to be here. From his combine press conference on what he would think if the Bucs draft Winston:
Some competitor
March 4th, 2015 at 3:27 pm
If he did fart during dinner, the first thing the Glazers would think is, “What’s EDS doing here?”
March 4th, 2015 at 3:37 pm
oh, there’s gonna be blow back alright.
this guy is an animal who should not be walking the streets let alone employed.
it has only just begun.
March 4th, 2015 at 3:38 pm
@CreamsicleBananaHammock
but he’s such a nice clean kid lol…..I don’t even have any sarcastic jokes for him, no one has ever accused him of being a fierced competitor and the best play on the edge, I think mariotta would put us all to sleep like glennon does. it’s bad when your team is losing more games than any other plus they are boring to watch. football is entertainment and nothing about mariotta gets my fired up about having him under center for the first time in his entire career

I don’t know….it doesn’t sound like Mariota really wants to be here. From his combine press conference on what he would think if the Bucs draft Winston:
It doesn’t really affect me at all. That’s going to be their opinion, that’s going to be their decision. All I can really control is how I prepare and get ready for whatever team picks me.
you know what that statement make me say? I can see why he wasn’t even a starter in high school….lol nice guy like trent dilfer or mark sanchez sorry but I want psycho surgeon running this offense
March 4th, 2015 at 3:42 pm
At least if he farts that means he feels pretty comfortable around the Glazer’s…and like the commenter above stated, Is mocking McKown’s QB skills really that big of a deal?? We all did every weekend…

Why did your own friends’ testimonies contradict your multiple versions of what happened?
Why was your own boyfriend on the Code of Conduct hearing witness list, not for you, but for Winston?…

March 4th, 2015 at 3:54 pm
does it mean I’m not a true Bucs fan if I get enjoyment out of watching the Bucs call Leonard William’s name with their first pick or trade down? I think it’s sadistic perhaps since there will be so much crying from the “we need a QB!” crowd. Truthfully I believe Glennon can be a good starter with an above average pass blocking line, so I’m ok with trading down and rolling with him in 2015. If for some reason he can’t take advantage of the opportunity then I’m perfectly fine with using the extra 1st round next year to move up and grab Hackenburg (a true franchise QB worthy of the #1 pick)

Jameis’ Accuser Says Drink Was Spiked; Toxicology Report Disagrees
she says—–“I’m totally certain something was in that drink,” Kinsman said, who revealed she did not realize Winston was the star freshman quarterback on FSU’s football team until months after the alleged rape occurred. Kinsman said the next thing she remembers was ending up in a cab with Winston and two other men. She said that leaving in a cab with the men was “uncharacteristic” behavior for her. She says Winston later raped her at his apartment. “He was on top of me and I couldn’t really breathe,” Kinsman says, noting Winston’s roommate disrupted Winston’s first attempt when he entered his bedroom because the door didn’t lock. She said the roommate, who she does not identify, pleaded with Winston to stop and noted Klinsman was saying “no.” That’s when Kinsman said Winston picked her up and took her to the bathroom, where the door did lock. “He pushed his hand over my face and pushed my face to the floor,” she said, recalling the floor was tile. She said he dressed her and told her it was time to leave after he was done.
im not saying she lied or that Winston is innocent either but she sure remembers clearly for someone that was drugged. what I don’t understand is was she alone at the bar that no one would remember her being around a guy like Winston and or her leaving with 3 guys? and if only one of the 3 guys raped her so she says but it was videotaped she would have to say she was drugged because im sure the tape didn’t look like she was saying no…..if there is tape but no toxicology report proving she was drugged hmmmm.
March 4th, 2015 at 4:05 pm
“I have seen Marcus get mad and punt a football at practice, which got everyone’s attention,” said Oregon quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator Scott Frost. “And last year, the week of the Wyoming game, we had a few really competitive practices, and at one point we had to stop practice and break up a huge fight, and guess who was in the middle of it? Marcus. I yelled at him for putting our whole season in jeopardy. But deep down, I got it. The leader of the team should be in the middle of a moment like that. People think he’s too nice—I would just say this: There is not one player on our team who wouldn’t walk through traffic for him.”
March 4th, 2015 at 4:06 pm
Mariota is painfully humble, as you’ve heard. Sit with him for 20 minutes, and there won’t be any Quotes of the Week. If he can’t answer a question truthfully, he’ll apologize and just not answer. But though he won’t say he’s confident, and though he’ll say the safe things a soon-to-be-drafted quarterback must say, Mariota is brutally confident. He reminds me of a quieter Russell Wilson—sure of himself, but not motivated to tell anyone. Sort of like the way Derek Jeter used to lead by example. Jeter once told Cowboys coach Jason Garrett that he never tried to get his message across by being loud. Being good, and working hard, was good enough. That’s the kind of manner Wilson adopted. I can see it in Mariota.
“For me,” Mariota said, “and I’m not speaking for Russell, but sometimes guys just—there’s no reason to say anything. So I don’t sometimes. As long as you and people around the organization understand how much the game means to you and how much you want to be successful, that’s all that really matters. I just want to do my job.” – Peter King

AFC Scout on Aaron Rodgers: “I like him. He’s a very talented guy. A lot of quarterbacks that were system people have not done very well. That puts up a red flag. Not that he is one of them. He could be an exception. But I can’t get it out of my craw.”
NFC scout on Aaron Rodgers: “I think he has a good chance of being a bust. Just like every other Tedford-coached quarterback. Thing I struggle with him is he gets sacked a lot. He doesn’t have great ability to change the release of the football. He’s mechanically very rigid.
NFC scout on Aaron Rodgers: “The guys that Tedford has had, what have they developed into? They’re too well-schooled. So mechanical. So robotic. I don’t know if they become good pro players. I think Rodgers is in that same mold.”
HHHMMMMM…where have I heard this before. Oh yeah, the same things they are saying about Mariota.

FSU President Responds To ‘The Hunting Ground’ In Strong Statement
(via gamedayr.com)
Following is Thrasher’s full statement regarding the documentary:
Dear Friends,
We want to make you aware that “The Hunting Ground,” a film about campus sexual assaults that debuted in Los Angeles and New York City Thursday, is seriously lacking in credibility and presents a one-sided view of Florida State’s actions in the Jameis Winston case.
The filmmakers interviewed Erica Kinsman, but no one representing Florida State. This provides the viewing public with an incomplete and erroneous view of what the University did to investigate Ms. Kinsman’s allegations. This distorted presentation is all the more egregious in light of the fact Ms. Kinsman has filed a lawsuit against the University over the case.
The first time the University was contacted by the filmmakers was December 18 – nearly three months after they had submitted the film to the Sundance Film Festival and it was scheduled for its artistic premiere. They sent a generic email asking for comment about sexual assault but failed to disclose that FSU would be a target of criticism and withheld the fact that Ms. Kinsman would be going public with her version of the story.
Had FSU been given the opportunity to reply, we would have made it clear the University went to extraordinary lengths to support Ms. Kinsman and to initiate an impartial, independent Title IX investigation of her allegations against Mr. Winston. Our efforts included arranging an independent investigation by a former Florida Supreme Court justice. He reviewed more than 1,000 pages of documents and took testimony from Mr. Winston, Ms. Kinsman and 10 witnesses before ruling there was not a preponderance of evidence to support her allegations. This was not mentioned in the film, although it received ample press coverage.
Alerted to these serious omissions, FSU this week lodged a formal protest with the film’s production company, Radius-TWC, which declined to make the film available although it had already been screened in January at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival and just last week at a student film festival.
Florida State advocates shining a bright light on the subject of sexual assault on college campuses. We want to reassure you that FSU takes all allegations of sexual assault seriously – as it did in this case – and works tirelessly through the Victim Advocate Program to support victims and help them recover. This includes informing victims about all of their options in deciding whether to initiate criminal or student conduct charges under Title IX. We remain serious about our commitment to ensure the safety and well-being of all of our students, particularly victims of sexual assault.
We also take seriously the need for journalists to observe basic ethics and standards. “The Hunting Ground” fails to meet those standards and, as a result, fails to present balanced and responsible coverage of this very important issue.
Sincerely,
John Thrasher
President

I see these types of criticisms but never any proof to support the idea that FSU is on some massive PSU -akin coverup. Please lay out your detailed case for how FSU was involved in a massive cover up? Every time someone has tried; their few points of contention are always refutable or explainable; and amount to pretty much no case.
There was boat loads of evidence and testimonies to support the PSU scandal as being factually accurate. To compare FSU to PSU just shows your ignorance and likely blind hatred. Sad.

Subhuman is a word.
Reading is wonderful thing. It separates us from troglodytes. Try it out sometime.

B.K.. you’re a moron. Just wondering if you actually read the Facts from that night? Rape it was not… Rape denotes a violent attack. I guess JW had a magic wand to magically rip her clothes off for this “Rape” and then put them back on nice and neat like nothing happened. Skank couldn’t even put on a clean pair of pants that night as she had her “Boyfriends” “DNA” in them. Someone she was seeing her parents didn’t even know about. And she told police she didn’t know who’s DNA it was and tried to blame it on her roommate. Which her Roommate denied. “Rape” it was not… and before you ask. Yes I have a 19 yr old daughter goes to College in tFL (not Fl State) and she knows how to keep her pants on when she wants them to stay on.
March 4th, 2015 at 5:45 pm

Fair enough. I apologize. I honestly don’t care if people like Mariota and not Winston. My opinion is no better than anyone else’s,
But, I do respond to the people calling him a rapist, and to people who are rude about it.

Or is it robert9? Hey, seriously now. We have all beat the hell out of this horse. There was no rape, only very shaky accusations. Accusations that led to a few story changes. Story changes that led to an attempted money grab. Money grab that led to a documentary which is the really sad part if you think about it. Im sure that some of the participants in that documentary were actually raped or assaulted. But the film will lose some serious credibility due to the lies spread by that girl and her daddy. They are abusing the situation and taking advantage of Winston’s fame. If you want something to be mad at, there it is. Go get them.
