ESPN: Mike Jenkins Will Return
March 5th, 2015Joe sure hopes Lovie Smith doesn’t repeat the stunt he pulled with veteran cornerback Mike Jenkins last year.
Per ESPN, Jenkins has re-signed with the Bucs on a one-year deal. Joe’s assuming it was for the NFL minimum.
Last year, Lovie seemed obsessed with anointing Jenkins as the starting cornerback opposite Alterraun Verner. The only problem was Jenkins hadn’t been good in years, and he sat out nearly every training camp practice. But for some reason, Lovie was no Johnthan Banks fan last summer.
Jenkins was cleared to play just a few days before opening day and played in that game, despite limited practice time. Before the game, Lovie was talking about being happy to have a starter back in the fold. Jenkins was roasted by Kelvin Benjamin of the Panthers and later got injured, lost for the year with a blown chest muscle.
And now he’s back.
Jenkins turns 30 later this month.
Happy birthday, Mike!
Hopefully, Jenkins was signed because he knows the defense and can provide good depth. To think Lovie would try to oust Banks (four interceptions last year) is almost unthinkable. But you just don’t know with Lovie.

Who? I remember a mike Jenkins from USF that was pretty good but that guy hasn’t played football in years. I think he retired didn’t he?

Congrats Mike…..I wish you well……we desperately need depth….and if we get Jenkins’ best…..this will be a good hire…

Also, with no guaranteed money, they can cut him if they find someone better, which I expect they will.
March 5th, 2015 at 12:34 pm
Hopefully nothing more than depth

get in shape bro cant have you getting roasted like you did before you got hurt
March 5th, 2015 at 12:47 pm
All hail the great Mike Jenkins. The entire 12 minutes I saw him play last year was special.

@INDYbucsfan … “Hopefully nothing more than depth”
Tough for me to understand comments like that. Personally, I’d LOVE to see Mike Jenkins play lights out in every single game, make the Pro Bowl, and be Defensive Player of the Year.
His career stats don’t lead me to believe that he will, but … if he did, the Bucs as a team (and us fans) would benefit tremendously.
I would hope that’s what we all want for 2015.

Who? Isn’t he a comedian? ….. Oh $hit my bad that’s Mike Epps.

“for some reason, Lovie was no Johnthan Banks fan last summer.”
Joe – Why is it so hard for you to understand that Lovie was using that Jenkins as starter thing as a motivational tool for Banks? Seems obvious to me. And yet you have complained about it like 143 times now after the fact. Let it go dude.

Smart move

You sign this guy solely based on the fact that he played at USF. We should sign Selvie and if only the GMEN didn’t tender JPP. In all seriousness, I’ll leave my USF Alum bias out of it. The only one that I was serious about is JPP. I would have loved to get that guy but I knew there was zero chance the G Men let him get away. I do like M Jenkins but he has proven inconsistent in the NFL. He flashes brilliance but then gets burnt too often. He takes risks and I have to wonder if his work ethic is where it should be. With that said, it provides needed depth for us and could lead to a nickel position for Jenkins. I’, pulling for the guy but the reality is MJ probably only provides depth.

Jenkins is a bum. You don’t get a free pass for being local. He won’t tackle (ask any Dallas fan) . He quits on plays and is roasted more than chicken. Typical Lovie move. it’s a wast of valuable practice time for a player that actually has potential. Oh wait Jenkins doesn’t practice either…

The great Mike Jenkins returns….I’m thinking Super Bowl.
March 5th, 2015 at 1:36 pm
notice Joe didn’t refer to him as “that slug” mike jenkins..
maybe joe is warming up MJ
March 5th, 2015 at 1:51 pm
Jenkins was a beast at USF and I enjoyed watching him play during his time there, especially the year they made it to the Sun Bowl. I hope he can put it together again as it would be great to have that type of depth.
March 5th, 2015 at 1:54 pm
Pickgrin, this is what Joe specializes in. After awhile it gets boring and tedious to read.
Same thing with innocuous statement that Mankins made about the barbecue.
Joe’s trying to make himself known by picking on tiny little things and blowing them out of perspective.
Perhaps his radio and media hero is Rush Limbaugh and he is trying to emulate him.
March 5th, 2015 at 2:09 pm
Pickgrin, Lovie clearly wanted Jenkins to start. Why else would he be starting opening day? He barely played or practiced all preseason, and when he did he was clearly not as good as Banks. Don’t defend Lovie for his sh*tty decisions.

Could be a good slot corner
March 5th, 2015 at 2:32 pm
My mind drifts back in time to the tennis court days of John McEnroe and I can hear him screaming:
“YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!!!”
I would like to bring him to One Buc Place and scream that at Lovie from time to time as the situation warrants.
In a “What have you done lately” league, this is a head-scratcher.
March 5th, 2015 at 2:40 pm
By all means let’s get rid of him. Right behind him we have Leonard Johnson, everyone’s favorite whipping boy.
I didn’t know we were so deep at CB we could afford to start cutting players, especially ones that are better than Johnson.
BTW, I like Johnson and I think he plays as hard and as well as he can. His skills are just limited.
March 5th, 2015 at 2:46 pm
These resigning of mike jenkins and possibly L. johnson better be strictly for depth
March 5th, 2015 at 4:02 pm
Nickel Corner at best. Banks made more progress last season than anyone on the defense. Banks should be holding down the RCB spot, Verner LCB.
March 5th, 2015 at 4:55 pm
Mike Jenkins could be replaced by someone younger, and more productive too…

USF in NFL = Garbage
