Killed Kaepernick Trade Talk, Hughes Re-Signs

Would the Bucs have pounced?

Despite a case of Jameis fever, Joe admits to being intrigued by chatter out of Houston last night that claimed the 49ers put franchise quarterback Colin Kaepernick on the trading block.

The rumor had such strong legs that 49ers general manager Trent Baalke issued a public statement denying it.

Would the Bucs have made an offer?

Joe’s confident Tampa Bay would have been a player. When you have no quarterback, it’s hard to ignore a 27-year-old starting QB who’s won a lot of games and doesn’t throw many interceptions.

As for edge rushers in free agency, another thing the Bucs need desperately, Buffalo defensive end Jerry Hughes, who’s coming of back-to-back seasons of double-digit sacks, was locked up by the Bills. He got big-time money — Michael Johnson money. So Bucs fans can scratch him off their Christmas shopping list, along with Patriots safety and former Schiano man Devin McCourty.

Christmas morning, aka the 2015 free agency dinner bell, rings tomorrow at 4 p.m.

    But Joe(s)
He is a lot like Mariota,
Why would the Bucs want a Mobile QB?

I’d much rather have Mariota than Kap.

    “But Joe(s)

Could be that they don’t WANT a mobile QB.

  5. The Buc Realist Says:

Could you imagine if Lovie did trade for Kaepernick! He would have been the head coach that traded for Cutler and Kaepernick, he would have never worked in the NFL again!!!

  6. Buc Neckid Says:

Why not have a Mobile 21 year old QB that does not through many interceptions

  7. robert 9 Says:

why not have a 3rd yr QB that fits koetters system?

  8. 87ForJameisNOMariota Says:

My personal opinion and it’s not going to change anytime soon is that the NFL is going to chew Mariota up and spit him out.

I had and still have the same opinion on Manziel and Mariota. Chewed up and spit out.

    Now let the fights begin.

  9. Luther Says:

I don’t want Kap or his clone.

  10. bucgatr Says:

What I want to know is what does Pablo think about all this.

  11. bucball Says:

Why would the bucs want Kap, when they can just draft mariota, who plays just like Kap, only he is much more intelligent, makes great decisions, more mature, more humble, more accurate (arm strength is overrated without accuracy), and runs faster, and more athletic?

  12. flmike Says:

So, Joe…please explain to us why this statement doesn’t apply to Mariota, who is younger and was a more successful college QB.

“Joe’s confident Tampa Bay would have been a player. When you have no quarterback, it’s hard to ignore a 27-year-old starting QB who’s won a lot of games and doesn’t throw many interceptions.”

I played poker with a group of FSU alumni this weekend, it’s damn near cultish the way they worship Winston, never mind the 10 names you can pull off the top of your head who were top 10 draft picks who were going to be the next greatest NFL QB who ever was, but were total busts. Then I throw out the question I always do when I talk to these guys…If he played for Bama or LSU or Georgia, would you still feel the same way about him? That always makes them pause, I had one guy be honest and say no.

  13. ddneast Says:

Defensive coordinators have finally figured out the way to beat spread QB’s in to keep them contained in the pocket and lock down receivers in one on one protection, much like the patriots did to Wilson in the SB.
For much of the game the ‘Hawks offense looked muddled except for the running of Marshawn Lynch.
That is exactly what teams have started to do against the Niners and ‘Skins which is why both those teams spread QB’s have seen their stats drop.
Buyer beware is still the word on spread QB’s coming into the NFL.

“…Christmas morning, aka the 2015 free agency dinner bell, rings tomorrow at 4 p.m…”

I don’t think we will have anything under the tree. Not for a couple of days, and then it won’t be any big name. Of course, we will still overpay.

  15. ddneast Says:

Jerry Hughes is a LB and not exactly a DE so I would worry about his size on the line so I’m not to concerned about the Bucs not pursuing him. He’s not really a good fit 4-3 defense.
Not only that, but he was playing with three All Pros on the line.
Nothing too see here folks, move along.

  16. flmike Says:

Eventually NFL offenses are gong to have to go to spread type systems, there just aren’t enough schools running “Pro-Style” offenses to feed enough quality QBs into the NFL on a annual basis, eventually the NFL is going to have to adapt to the talent it is being fed from the college ranks, especially with the current rules that govern the game, why not go 4 or 5 Wide, with an athletic QB who can throw and run and dare the defense to stop your receivers. Many teams already do this, NE, Seattle, San Fran., It’s just a matter of time, as more college coaches move up the ranks get hired, chances are they ran spread offenses, it’s evolution…

  17. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I would rather have the Aaron Rodgers of this draft…Marcus Mariota.

  18. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Although, I would take Colin over Winston any day. Don’t forget, Colin is a Superbowl QB with plenty of playoff experience.

Doesn’t matter though…ESPN must have needed to drum up ratings for a night.

  19. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @flmike

I agree. And a point could be made that it is already happening, considering how many plays are called from shotgun in the playoffs. The anti-Mariota crowd tends to ignore that, but it’s true.

  20. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Last year I canceled my season tickets…4 of them. I also attended no games, and I normally take several boys clubs to the games each season, paying for upwards of 10-18 kids each time, plus chaperones. This past year, I took them to lightning games and baseball games instead.

They liked the lightning games more than baseball.

If Lovie takes Winston, it’s going to take a lot to earn those ticket sales back, and they are already fighting an uphill battle.

Over the summer, I’m taking those kids to New York City and Niagara Falls, and paying for them all.

If the Bucs take Mariota, not only will I take the boys and girls to some games, but I will consider buying them each Bucs gear and getting the season tickets back.

  21. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I just don’t feel comfortable encouraging the kids to look up to Winston. He’ll have an uphill battle to win that trust if he comes to Tampa more than twice a year.

  22. Jeagan1999 Says:

Very interesting. Kap is certainly an experienced young mobile QB. If the Bucs were interested in him, does it tip their hand that they want a more mobile QB like Mariota?

  23. ddneast Says:

Niners just denied these rumors; big surprise.
Such a beautiful heart warming wonderful story Bonzai. Did you bring them all down from Walton’s Mountain?
If I was a parent, I would think twice before I let you take my son to New York City or of all places, Niagra Falls. LOL.
I mean really, of all the ridiculous unbelievable posts I have read out here, this one has to be in the Top 3.
    Niagra Falls! LMAO.

  24. bucsfan4lyf Says:

    Mariota>Krapernick

  25. ddneast Says:

Again Bonzai, you have a short memory. You must be thinking of your future trip to Niagra Falls with all those boys.
Rogers spent three years on the bench learning how to play behind center and then his first year in the pro game wasn’t exactly hearts and flowers.
99 precedent of the QB’s don’t get the luxury of waiting for Brett Farve to retire.
If your so worried about kids, why don’t you teach them this very valuable American lesson that this great country was founded on.
A man is presumed innocent until he is proven guilty.
Another good lesson is don’t believe or listen to unsubstantiated allegations or gossip.
You might find you will serve as a better role model if you emphasize these points than what they hear on TMZ or other gossip sites.

  26. BirdDoggers Says:

The legal tampering period is the start of free agency, regardless of the official date. Actually, free agency starts at the combine and even before that for some players. The NFL can try as they may to keep control of the shenanigans but the reality is the teams and agents don’t play by a set of rules.

  27. mikeh Says:

    bonzai- don’t blame you.

Yet, Wilson still had almost 900 yds rushing the most of his career. Yeah, they are figuring it out. haha

    ******
I find it interesting that you didn’t mention Wilson in this one. Since his stats have gone up every year. Oh, Kaps stats have gone up every year as well. Interesting, I think you just have something out against these QBs, however, you just spout off stuff you heard on a radio, but don’t actually go verify if anything is true. Wilson and Kaps passing yds went up every year. Also, their rushing yds went up as well. Interesting though that you still believe that Defenses have caught on.

    Wilson Stats:
    2012- Passing – 3,118 Rushing – 489
    2013- Passing – 3,357 Rushing – 539
    2014- Passing – 3,475 Rushing – 849

    Kaps Stats:
    2011- Passing – 35 Rushing – -2
    2012- Passing – 1,814 Rushing – 415
    2013- Passing – 3,197 Rushing – 524
    2014- Passing – 3,369 Rushing – 639

Kap was accused of rape just last year so he can’t play for the pewter priests.

I admire your stance and values. Niagra falls is great destination, upstate New York is absolutely beautiful and New York city is the best city on the planet. The kids will love it and never ever forget it. I still remember visiting the Empire State building in 4th grade it was and still is amazing. Go on with your bad self. The world needs more bonzais if you ask me.

  32. WS99 Says:

Hoyer is headed to Houston. Not that I care. I say we keep 3 qbs if we must Winston Glennon n Vick. Call it a day. I like this bc they can all compete for the job. Chances are vick will get hurt again and then the magic begins. Sign vick to a one year contract possibly two. After that we have Winston as our starter with mg8 as our backup. I even read that the saints maybe looking to get rid of brees. Craziness.

  33. Skyline Crew Says:

    WS99

I read that Jets were also in play for Hoyer. I think it would be best for him to go to Texas though.

Also, Kap wasn’t accused of rape. Did you read the article you posted?

  34. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

Absolute NO to bringing Kap in, but the fact that some of you Mariota fan boys think he’s already better than Kap tells me all I need to know. You guys are complete bumble’s….seriously, your slurping of Mariota is really getting pathetic

  35. Skyline Crew Says:

    @Creamsicle

You mean like some of the Winston fan boys who think Winston is better than Luck and as smart as Peyton?

  36. ddneast Says:

Great WS99. Book your 9 yo son for a trip to upstate NY now before it’s to late.
    LOL.
Bonzai has been posting angry outbursts about the Bucs for a year that I know of and this is the first time we have heard about all of the altruistic work he does with kids, tickets and the community.
If you believe this swill, let me interest you in this new on line tech stock offering I have.

  37. Bucs#1 Says:

    Bonzai

Thousands and Thousands of Bucs fans feel exactly the same way you do and beleive me, the Bucs know it

  38. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

    @Skyline

It’s not Winston fan boys saying that Jameis has the same type of football IQ as Peyton, it’s NFL scouts.

Furthermore, there are Mariota Fan Boys in this thread saying that they wouldn’t trade Mariota for Kap straight up. I challenge you to find a single Winston supporter who wouldn’t trade Winston for Luck straight up

  39. Skyline Crew Says:

    @Cremsicle

It was one person that said Winston’s whiteboard session reminded him of Peyton. I haven’t heard another scout say that Winston is as smart as Manning.

Also, the ones saying that Winston is better than Luck I’m sure would not trade for Luck. I can’t say I would trade for Kap because Mariota is better than Kap coming out of college, but the SB and playoff experience would hold more weight.

  40. ddneast Says:

I doubt if any of you clowns have ever stepped into RJ Stadium. I hope the games aren’t broadcast next year so I Can hear all you mommy boys cry and whine. LOL.

  41. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

Skyline, what you don’t seem to understand is it does not matter at all what a guy did in college, it’s about how they project to the NFL game.

I think a very good argument could be made that Eric Crouch, Charlie Ward and Tim Tebow all had better college careers than either Mariota or Jameis. Do you think that they all had better NFL careers than what Mariota or Jameis are going to have.

The draft is not about what you have done…it’s about projecting what you will do. That’s based on size, football acumen, and the ability to hit a 10 yard out with guys draped all over you.

  42. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @ddneast

Hello, Mr. Troll. It may be hard for you to believe, but there are some people with money that give back to the community in many ways. That you find such things so hard to comprehend shows that such things are an alien concept to you. Doesn’t really matter what you believe. Believe it or not…none of us here need your “belief”. And I don’t do it for you, I do it for the kids. Just as I do other things for other people. I’m big on morals and responsibility, and if a person needs a helping hand, such as a homeless person or family, I feel responsible to provide options whenever I am capable.

I am, however, very opinionated. I don’t judge the people I help, in fact it becomes all about giving them hope, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have strong opinions on certain topics. And I have NEVER been shy about it, as most here will agree, right or wrong.

So, here’s a suggestion for you. The next time you are at a local walmart or publix or something…pay for the purchases of the person behind you. Watch the result of hope and goodwill you generate.

  43. Skyline Crew Says:

Creamsicle, I understand that perfectly. However, I don’t know a QB in the NFL that failed in college football.

  44. Skyline Crew Says:

    Bonzai,

Don’t listen to ddneast. He doesn’t know that much about football. He just kind of spouts off random stuff that he heard on ESPN or from some guy in the alley way. Nothing to see here.
