Jameis Winston Day

Yesterday was a huge day at One Buc Palace, as prospective No. 1 overall pick Jameis Winston got a personal tour of the facility by Bucs general manager Jason Licht.
Winston met with many Bucs officials during the day-long meetings and also slapped skin with one of his two primary targets, if the Bucs select him April 30, wide receiver Vincent Jackson.
In a video on Buccaneers.com with multimedia maven Scott Smith, Winston did not hide his desire of how much he wants to lead the Bucs.
“This place, I would love to be here,” Winston said.
Upon meeting Jackson, Winston said, “I told him I can’t wait to give him the rock. Hopefully, one day, I will be his quarterback and we can get the show on the road.”
The show has already begun.
Now Joe isn’t quite ready to sign off on Winston being selected No. 1 overall, as much as Joe sweats blood wanting it to happen. At the end of the day, we must remember, we are talking Lovie Smith. If Joe has learned anything from Smith in his 14 months on the job, it is to expect the unexpected. Joe would never want to play poker against Lovie.
Speaking of poker, at least yesterday, judging by the photos of Winston’s visit on Buccaneers.com, Bucs general manager Jason Licht was not wearing a poker face as he was beaming ear-to-ear escorting Winston around the facility.
Is the pick Winston’s to lose? It sure looks that way. When is the last time a team brought in a prospective pick this early and not just had photos, but pumped out releases and updates commensurate with the arrival of a new head coach?
Joe has read word that the Bucs brought in Winston to the facility early to work around Winston’s schedule; that Winston had a conflict in March. Joe’s not buying that one bit. Every NFL agent knows that you wipe clean your client’s schedule for the month of March, with the lone exception being your client’s pro day, so that clubs can schedule in-house interviews.
When you are talking about the kind of cash Winston will get as a top pick (and the cut the agents get), clearing out the March calendar is not a trivial matter. It is priority.

As Ric Flair use to say, “If you dont like it, learn to love it”…Woooooo!..Winston is our future QB…I must say he just looks like he belongs at OneBuC…He has to be licking his chops thinking of throwing TD passes to V-Jax & Evans…if Winston does end up in Tampa the rookie passing record is in real danger of being broken…

After watching his performance at the Combine, interviews, etc, the Bucs need to draft this guy. Winning attitude with this guy and that is all he ever did at FSU was win. Win baby win!

It makes NO sense at all to give him the final call on this pick after going 2-14.

Money magnifies bad character. Bucs need to be very careful as their decision will impact the franchise for years to come. Much is made about Winston being the most pro-style ready QB but does anyone believe that we are a playoff team this year? Still too many other holes on the roster. My point is that we don’t have to have a pro-ready QB this year so who is the best long term answer.
Joe, if you say that Winston will be the better QB in 3-4 years than so be it. You are closer to this every day. I just feel that Mariotta is the better long range option since he is more athletic, mobile, protects the ball, and can develop his pro style.

I think RGIII is the better “long term” quarterback than Andrew Luck.
Those of you that think Mariota is going to be the better “long term” QB surely agree with the above statement.

Trade down TWICE in the 1st round….too many holes on both sides of the ball…either QB is going to be crushed both phyisically and emotionally.
Every year it is the same hype over top QB’s……take one next year after the foundation has been laid.

Marcus Arroyo…was never an OC. How did that work out? Did he “develop” well?
Greg Schiano was supposed to develop into an NFL coach from college. How did that work out?
Why in the hell would anyone want to take a QB that needs so much development is beyond me. It has to be that he’s a nice guy. Glennon was said to need development too and he went in the 3rd round.
Take the guy that needs little development.
If I’m the Glazers I’m hiring the guy that has the most experience. Not someone that I have to train to play the correct way.

Mariota will not last in the nfl! He has no natural qb feel for the game. Hell of an athlete but that’s about it.

Is Jameis gonna be there at #20? Since Chip Kelly is gonna give the Bucs whatever they want to move down, and obviously it’s going to be a boatload and they won’t say no. Impossible to say no to what could end up being 5-10 starters for one guy.
Maybe plant some stories to get Jameis to fall all the way to 20.

Some may have thought that RGIII was a better long term option than Luck but I sure didn’t. Also didn’t think that Johnny Football was a long term option.
I’m a fan and haven’t missed a home game in over 15 years. I will cheer for Winston’s success if he is our QB. Just tired of the bad decisions at One Buc Place over the last eight years and can’t take any more.
This pick scares me given the management “brain trust” in charge.

I agree he should not have the final call. I believe the GM’s job is to make the objective decision as Coaches have blinders. I just think Lovie will have his way or they will move to the next guy.
I don’t think JW has separated himself enough yet and I think if it’s close they will go MM or just draft the best player (L Williams) in the draft. Also don’t be surprised if they entertain the Jets.
IF i were JW and I could go pro at MLB or NFL and I loved them both, I’d go MLB. Even average MLB pitchers make more money over a long period of time at less damage to their bodies.
Either QB should sit behind Glennon for a while and learn.

only ignorant uninformed fans think the bucs or any team could trade down and address every hole or need on the roster in one year…just as dumb as think the bucs would trade out of the top spot with a team drafting 20th overall. im sure colts fans are used to Andrew lucks interceptions by now…..i’d rather Winston’s downfield interceptions than mariotta fumble issues near the line of scrimmage which makes it obvious he’s not ready for nfl pressure

While I agree with the Basic Idea here, that could have been done & Winston STILL had a conflict. All it would have taken would be for another Team to Schedule their Interview before the Bucs did. For a kid with the issues he has, I don’t suppose he’d want to antagonize any team, by scheduling & then cancelling a visit. Could have boiled down to a few minutes difference in when the calls were made. No need for some big conspiracy, or “Big Lie’ to explain.

Thats an unfortunate assessment that doesn’t factor in how Kid Fameis will no longer have the advantage of disguising his terrible downfield decision making, by throwing into ACC coverages.
Whereas Mariota’s offense was so much more productive – one could say that even IF your mad eup scenario was accurate: fumbling at the LOS while deep in your opponents territory (ALL GAME LONG) really isn’t that problematic when you have the luxury of a defense that can stump-break Kid Fameis and his band from FSU offense – totally dominating and thrashing them about the field, in a nationally televised game. See, when your team is scoring 50 (+) points a game, taking chances doesn’t really hurt you.
Alternately, when your QB doesn’t read defenses and ALWAYS gets baited into making bad decisions against teams with BAD defenses – requiring huge off-script “come-back” games…evetually catches up, and exposes you…
You keep spinning the fumble yarn…those poor decisions cost Kid Fameis ON and (especially) OFF the field.

Hey Glazers, I’m telling you, I’m not alone: draft Winston and you will lose this fan’s money forever. Who you chose to associate with says a great deal about your character. You claim to represent Tampa Bay, so show it.
By the way, if you just want to focus on the field, why bring an interception machine like Winston to a team with a poor O-line?
