Jameis Watch: “Mental Side” Help
March 3rd, 2015Crab-legs-stealing, BB-gun-shooting, obscenity-hollering, Heisman-Trophy-winning, former national champion Jameis Winston, the pride of Florida State University, continues to look like a much better quarterback prospect than Mike Glennon and Josh McCown.
It’s Joe’s daily nugget on the Jameis Watch, celebrating the best quarterback ever to wear No. 5 in the state of Florida.
Gasp! A new video at NFL.com features Jameis Winston — and he talks about baseball. Oh, the horror!
What Winston professed was his great love of baseball and that “baseball has helped me so much with the mental side of football.”
Joe supposes that will freak out those who think Winston will pass on the massive money from the NFL, only to play at the lowest levels of minor league baseball this summer.
That’s just silly, and it’s not why Winston applied recently to trademark the phrase, “Famous Jameis.”
There’s plenty more in the video, so feel free to click the link above. The NFL Network segment focuses on Jameis claiming “confidence” is the key to his game.

I’m not going to lie, the baseball worries me more that any other thing with Jameis. Not that he will leave for next year, but maybe in 5? 7? Hell idk… Or if he wants to play both sports and risk injury.
Now Im not saying these are likely scenarios, and I understand they can put clauses in his contract, but this just scares me more than any of his other “flags”.

Football + baseball = concerns of the shoulder. That’s a lot wear and tear, not to mention the mental distraction of trying to concentrate on both sports. If we do draft him, I hope he concentrates on football only until he becomes good enough for us not to worry about it.

Trademarks a nickname?
Who else did that? Yes, someone near and dear to Joe’s heart who is now in rehab and may not beat out the greatness that is Josh McCown.
Danger Will Robinson, Danger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jameis Winston visiting Buccaneers today might be unprecedented. Potential No. 1 picks don’t visit teams with No. 1 pick this early. Ever.

wow imagine that…..he was asked about baseball and he answered the question so now the fact that he loves baseball is a concern hahahaha. most of you don’t even realize you have mark Dominick type gm skills
not biased at all to think mariotta is the pick especially when people cry about our offensive line but don’t take into consideration how fragile mariotta is even if he did get injured. not skilled in 3 or 5 step drops or rollouts under pressure but people don’t think he’ll get hit while actually going through the obvious learning curve he’ll have. Winston should be the pick barring some kind of mental lapse in common sense at the beginning of the draft because honestly the should be doing winstons contact negotiations right now
THIS GUY IS THE PICK. if you are Jason licht or lovie you are worried about either one of these guys because your putting your future in a rookie quarterback but it’s much better than putting your future in the hands of mike glennon

If Jameis is a top 15 QB, he will make at least 15 million a year starting in 2019. He would have to be a top 5 closer to even think about that kind of money. If he is not a top 15 QB, he and the bucs should both move on.

I don’t want to draft any player that trademarks a nickname before they’re even drafted.

i’m sure jameis winston is sitting around trademarking things. it’s his agents’ job to look out for every avenue of future income, and trademarking names that might go on t shirts some day is part of THEM doing THEIR job for a client. Jameis role in this was to say “sure” when it was suggested. a trademark costs a nominal amount of money and and consumes none of his or any player’s time
