“I Still Got Some Juice”

New Bucs defensive tackle Henry Melton had five sacks for the Cowboys last year.

How refreshing to hear a free agent Buccaneer come to One Buc Palace and talk about what he has to prove.

Not every guy is ghostly and ghastly and, apparently, just cruising and smiling with an eight-figure bank account.

New Bucs defensive tackle Henry Melton, the former Bears Pro Bowler signed today, talked the good talk this afternoon. He was asked about signing a one-year contract with Tampa Bay and said he was hungry to show the NFL what he has, in addition to helping the Bucs.

“I just wanted to really, really show what I could do again. You know, I still got some juice, and I just wanted to come here and help turn this thing around and prove I can get it done,” Melton told Joe and assembled media.

Melton, 28, talked a bit about his close relationship with Lovie Smith and how he forged a bond years ago at the Pro Bowl with Gerald McCoy. He said the two have texted for a long time about playing together, including this week.

Joe gets the right vibe from Melton. There’s little question he’ll be ready to play when his number is called.

As for the “juice” he might have left after knee problems, well, Joe can’t speak for that.

And now we are looking at Melton’s former teammate Sterling Moore. It ould again be a move that adds nice depth. One of our biggest weaknesses has been depth and I have seen a great effort to improve that. This is smart thinking by Lovie and Licht. We havent had any huge splash free agency moves but that might not be a bad idea. Lovie is finding guys he knows that know his system and he is forging depth in Free Agency. I like that idea. Use FA to add depth and use the draft to try to build. Splash moves in Free Agency are more for teams needing only a piece or 2 to make a run. Sadly, we don’t fit in this category.

i like this guy. positive signing

let’s address the elephant in the room. what happens when Lovie runs out of ex players needing prove it deals. It will be awful hard to fill a quality roster that way.

Players want to win that is why it’s so hard for lovie to attract anyone other than ex players that need prove it deals. who also enjoy the relaxed work environment with no expectations.

glazers wake up. licht fixed lovies mistakes by getting rid of mistakes, now fix your mistake and get rid of the bum lovie smith.

It took courage for L&L to dump the $$$ with Johnson & others…..mostly because they didn’t give their best…..hopefully players like Melton will proove them right. Just bring in players that earn their paycheck….

Low-risk, high reward, great move. Let’s go Tampa Bay Cowgirls!

Anthony Collins and Michael Johnson hey everyone thought those were good pick ups and they were long before the season started, hopefully this year bucs are scouting talent as well as desire and heart to play hard

he needs to keep that juice talk to himself. they test for that stuff these days.

hopefully he can ween off it in time.

@cmurda, I agree. Good pick up, He can play, he should be better in the second after knee surgery. He is only 28 and if he works out we can resign him and keep good depth. More signings like him would be good. It seems that the big splash free agent rarely work out.

  8. Babaloo Says:

Lovey was hired before licht, hence he cannot possibly be licht’s mistake. Instead of whining perhaps realise we are right where we need to be. You don’t fix a roster that continually is the youngest in the league over night.

We will be much better this year. Count in it.

  9. Buccfan37 Says:

It all depends on what the experts did or will do to fix his knee, still this guy seems like he will give it all he has got. Lovie piecemeal potential redemption.

That’s right keep the d line fresh all year long in the heat!! Rotate them in and out Lovie!

And Melton is a former All pro at GMC’s position. It’s great to have somebody on the roster like that in case GMC has more injury problems.

    Finally, depth!

Dont worry too much about DE.

LDE is covered by William Goldston/ Jacquies Smith combined.

Goldston is very good at stopping the run and he can beat up the other teams RT and wear him down. Then put JacQuies Smith in on 3rd down!

Thats what I would do, to play great 4th quarter football.

I am ecstatic about having 4 DT’s, lets just hope they make it through the pre-season.

Plus, Goldston is our 5th DT!!

    RDE????

    We will see!!!
