Cold Shower On Mike Iupati

March 2nd, 2015

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Just thinking of that sieve passed off as an offensive line last year makes Joe shudder. Joe has seen more solid bricks of Swiss cheese in a deli than what the Bucs trotted out as a front line.

No, Joe isn’t buying that barbecue pitmaster Logan Mankins was the second-coming John Hannah. His left-his-heart-in-New-England-inspired play didn’t sit well with Joe.

Perhaps Mankins is over that. Yes, Bucs suits tell Joe with authority Mankins is a fixture for this fall.

That doesn’t mean guard Patrick Omameh did anything to solidify his starting position. As a result, a lot of Bucs fans are hoping Tampa Bay will toss some bait at 49ers free agent roadgrader guard Mike Iupati?

However, spreadsheeter Steve Polazzolo at Pro Football Focus is armed with math and claims Iupati is a one-trick pony. He run blocks very well. Pass blocking? Not so much.

Polazzolo went on to Twitter that 54 other guards in the NFL had better pass-blocking grades than Iupati.

You know what this tells Joe? If the Bucs do go out and sign Iupati (where would he play, left guard or right guard and would Iupati agree to play right guard?) then that means they are going to try to run a spread-option offense and that your first pick in the draft will be Marcus Mariota.

Why would Bucs general manger Jaosn Licht drop a boatload of Team Glazer cash on a guard who can’t pass block if you are going to draft a dropback passer No. 1 overall?

C’mon Joe, keep the faith. Jameis won’t need as much time because he will recognize the defenses faster than those others could, plus a good run game will slow down the pas rush.

That’s reading a little too much into the tea leaves, but we should be drafting MM anyway, so…

You don’t pick lineman up in free agency smh. You draft and develop them. Its a reason they’re free agents because teams thought they were expendable.

And I don’t listen to analytics anymore and completely discredits pro football focus after how high regards they had for Anthony Collins last year. It was a reason he was a back up and Cincinnati let him hit free agency. Speaking of Cincy they just released or let another 1 sack DE hit free agency he might be on his way to Tampa!

The idea of taking a chance on this free agent does not bother me when you think about bucs under mark Dominick were giving us nothing but undrafted free agents and late round picks……

and for all of you who want the bucs to trade down for extra picks, the bucs drafted Jeremy trueblood in the second round for that reason alone you go after this free agent and go get Winston or mariotta and hope that one of the lineman you drafted last year takes a big step now that theres some kind of stability in the offense…no need to go offensive lineman crazy in the draft and this way you can focus on all the other issues

  6. Pickgrin Says:

    pass.

  7. markdomincik Says:

he’s trash..need to go after buluga & franklin

  8. BigMacAttack Says:

Winston will suck for one year then Bust right into MLB. He will be a colossal waste of a first round pick to hopefully some team other than Tampa. If they draft a QB it should be Mariota.

  9. BirdDoggers Says:

The Bucs could see Iupati as more than a one trick pony. After all, their free agent haul from last year looks like an exercise in miss evaluation.

  10. BrianDorry55 Says:

This is why I don’t want Iupati…you can’t pay a guard $7+ million a year if he can’t pass block.
