Adrian Clayborn Signs With Atlanta

March 12th, 2015

The Falcons have signed BoyDog, former Bucs defensive end Adrian Clayborn, and they obviously think he can play like one.

Contract details have yet to be announced, but it’s an interesting signing.

Joe wishes the Bucs’ former 2011 first-round pick well (when he’s not playing against the Bucs.) Raheem Morris, now the Falcons’ assistant head coach under the new Dan Quinn regime, clearly knows what Clayborn can do and the relentless motor he brings.

Remember, Greg Schiano determined Clayborn had no edge rush, which is why he kept moving Clayborn from side to side and running a bunch of line stunts. Schiano didn’t believe Clayborn had the goods. Lovie Smith watched the film and thought Michael Johnson was a better edge rusher.

Damn I was counting on his 3 qb hurries this year smfh

AC seems like a straight up good dude. I wish he had gone out of our division so I could have continued to root for him.

Now I have to sweat him pulling a Michael Bennett and blossoming in Atlanta, getting healthy and having a career year. Although in fairness Bennett played a LOT better for the Bucs than AC, or any other DL expect GMC and was good when he left here. Bennett may be the biggest bonehead move of the past decade. Yes I know that’s a high bar to clear but considering what we could have had him for, the fact that he knew our system, the fact that he PRODUCED in our system…Michael Bennett still stands out to me as a really, really STOOOPID move!

I don’t think AC is player that Bennett is so hopefully I won’t have to be typing this about him next year.

The kid out of UCLA at DE round 2 if the hips check out medically. Cowboys need a RB now and Seahawks no longer have a pick so he should be there

  4. ElioT Says:

    Bucs’ fan’s luck:

Clayborn goes to ATL and becomes a perennial Pro Bowler.

Another 1st Rd pick flushed down the toilet!

    F-YOU Rockstar!!!!

    Go Sucs!

  5. jb Says:

Clayborn’s a great dude, but he’s not nearly the DE that Michael Bennett is/was. Let Quinn and the Falcons believe they can turn him into an All Pro. It’ll make our sweep of the Falcons that much easier this season.

  6. BucFanForever Says:

Dan Quinn sure likes old Buc’s DEs. Maybe he will overpay the Ghost forcing ATL to cut Matt Ryan.

  7. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

Kinda wanted him back here on a one or two yr deal but, oh well….

  8. bucs4lyfe Says:

greg schiano also determined Michael Bennett wasn’t a good enough pass rusher to sign long term. he’s a good player and will be pumped up when he plays tampa im sure. he’s a starter when healthy lol joebucs fans will sit here and make fun now but lets hope they are still laughing after we play Atlanta with the new defense they are bringing in

  9. Not "The Kevin" Says:

When he’s healthy he’s good. I think we should have held onto him but wish him the best 14 out of 16 games a season.

Michael Bennett peaked in a contract year with 9 sacks, he hasn’t hit double digits yet in his career, he hasn’t hit 9 sacks again. even though I wanted to keep him he’ll go down in nfl history as an average pass rusher. im just saying…..only issue with clayborn is he couldn’t stay on the field

  11. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Joe, is there some place we can watch the Oregon Pro Day? Brighthouse lists the wrong things on their guide for NFLN (something else is on than what the guide says right now).

  12. Ray Rice Says:

Awwww. Radio Raheem got his doggy back!

  13. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Cool, NFLN has special coverage of it next.

  14. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

The only good play he made was that glorious sack on Matty Ice.

  15. ddneast Says:

Announced it was a one year deal. Ye of title faith.
Still, I wish the same as you do, Joe.
I never bash anyone who is trying to get all the abilities that god,has given him which Clayborn did.

  16. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Bonzai

    Joe says….”What Pro Day?”…..not worthy of Joe’s coverage….yet…

  17. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

If you have nfl network, you might want to watch it now.

  18. Snook Says:

Not sure why people keep saying that they hope this doesn’t turn out like the Bennett situation.

    Bennett actually produced in Tampa.

  19. salish_seamonster Says:

Good luck AC. Wanted him back, but it was not to be.

  20. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

The coach that was to run the Oregon Pro Day signed with the Browns, so rather than his teammates miss out on the exposure, Mariota is running the program.

    That’s a leader.

  21. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

    @TBBF

Well to Winston lovers pro days don’t matter (like everything else).

Of course this year’s Winstonites are also filled with a lot of last year’s Johnny Rehab jock riders and to them his pro day was EVERYTHING.

    Funny how that works.

  22. John Says:

@ Iamkingsu, the reports about the DE out of UCLA is he is not an edge rusher. Going to be better at run stopping and batting balls down. Don’t need another MJ. Let’s just get Greg Hardy and use picks 2 and 3 for the best Tackles and Guards available.

  23. 87ForJameisNOMariota Says:

Never wanted Manziel….I said at the time he’s a dead man running.

I like MM more than Manziel though.

And no, the pro day does not matter to me at all. As I’ve already stated the pick is already in. You guys just have to sit around and wonder the rest of the way.

  24. Zam Says:

I’ll be curious how he does, because he always seemed like with the right coaching he could be good. His success or failure will say a lot about our past and current coaches.

  25. WS99 Says:

I was in the Aaron Donald camp last year. He was one of the best if not the best 3tech in the league last year. He went to his first probowl as a rookie. But wtf do I know. You guys keep schooling me on “real football” and “real football fans” everyday. I’m so great for what I’ve learned.

  26. The Buc Realist Says:

I tried to tell all of you last year! Now a whole year was wasted. I did hear that Tampa bay made a offer to adrian slowborn. But it was only for a cab straight to the airport!

  27. Teacherman777 Says:

Atlanta was the softest team in the NFL last year.

Adrian Clayborne hits hard! And he brings it every play.

I thought Adrian was an easy guy to root for.

Hes overcome a physical handicap, to make it to the NFL!!

How can u not love a dude like that!!!

If you put Adrians heart in Daquans body, he would be great!!

  28. Connor Says:

NO %&$$*g EXCUSE for letting him walk!

  29. ddneast Says:

You are right about his physical handicap Teacherman and the grit and the hard work it took to overcompensate for it.
But at the end of the day it is still a handicap that is probably preventing Clayborn to be a prime DE.
Buc4lyfe you are right about Bennett. He peaked at 9 sacks and hasn’t hit double digits yet and in fact, I think he slipped to 6.5 or 7.5 last year. Of course he got a big contract last year, too.

  30. Destinjohnny Says:

Stupid move – lovie u better get a gm son or u will not last

  31. RachelWatson'sthong Says:

Wow! The softest team in the league hung 56 points on our team last year. God we sucked!

  32. ddneast Says:

Just heard the Dummynick on the NFL network saying how he drafted Clayborn and he was an 8 to 10 sack guy a season but not to expect double digit sacks from him.
Really Dummynick, you drafted a guy who you knew would never get double digit sacks with our No. 1 pick?
Is that what you do I with a No. 1 pick. Draft average players?
No wonder we are in the mess we are in.

  33. Fire Goodell Says:

He’ll have some sacks and maybe a pick 6 against us.

  34. ddneast Says:

Fire Goodell. As your sceen name suggests, you sound and write like a jerk.
Don’t like to call names, but that pretty much best describes what you wrote.

  35. ElioT Says:

Dominik can munch on a bag of d**ks!

    Remember:
    1.) McCoy (1st)
    2.) Price (2nd)
    3.) Clayborn (1st)
    4.) Bowers (2nd)

The Sucs were going to be set on the D-Line for YEARS!!!!!

    Go Sucs!

  36. Pickgrin Says:

I was hoping Bucs would resign him and that he would do well next year – but I guess the coaches just don’t see it.

Part of my desire to see him succeed in Tampa Bay stems from the fact he was a 1st round pick and it just sucks to see high pick after high pick not work out. Great job Dom.

Good Luck Adrian. No One can ever accuse you of not having heart or not giving 100% effort.

  37. 87ForJameisNOMariota Says:

“I think the word to describe my pass rush is just physicality,” the 6-foot-3-inch, 280-pound Clayborn said. “I’m not going to be the fastest guy around the edge and I’m not going to bull rush you over, but I’ve got a good combination of all of that speed and power. I’m just going to try and get to the quarterback.”
