Top 30 Buccaneers Mysteries Of 2014 – No. 22
February 9th, 2015In many ways, Tampa Bay’s 2014 season was more bizarre than the MRSA-infected, quarterback-gone-mental, Fire-Schiano-billboards campaign of 2013.
There were plenty of real Bucs mysteries last year, and Joe’s revisiting the most interesting of the bunch.
No. 22 — Seferian-Jenkins boasting about penalized pose
It’s one thing to do something stupid. It happens. Mistakes are made. But it’s another thing to do something stupid, hurt your team, get reprimanded by your boss, and hours later happily boast your stupidity on social media for the world to see.
Why would someone do such a thing? Joe can’t figure it out.
Bucs rookie tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins did just that.
After catching a fourth-quarter touchdown from Josh McCown against Atlanta at home in November, ASJ stood on the football and posed like Captain Morgan. Fifteen yard penalty for the Bucs, who were leading 17-16. The Falcons scored a touchdown after getting good field position on their next possession. Game over.
No wonder McCown was crying.
No. 23 — Never moving Michael Johnson
No. 24 — “I didn’t want to put more points on the board”
No. 25 — Glennon success without an offensive coordinator
No. 26 — Putrid punting
No. 27 — Defending three-step drops
No. 28 — Eight consecutive red zone runs versus Rams
No. 29 — Leaky Sean Glennon
No. 30 – Jorvorskie Lane

Stupidity isn’t much of a mystery. It’s an epidemic.
February 9th, 2015 at 4:13 pm
Is this a list of mysteries or a list of bad plays/playing/coaching? The latter isn’t a mystery.
February 9th, 2015 at 4:17 pm
but you can’t judge a draft for 3 seasons
he’s the next gronkowski
rookie mistake
blah, blah, blah
a bunch a morans being led by a moran
February 9th, 2015 at 4:18 pm
Uh, oh.
February 9th, 2015 at 4:26 pm
@Robert 9
I find it ironic that someone calling them “moran’s” misspelled the word moron.
February 9th, 2015 at 4:33 pm
if you guys really think that was not intentional I have a bridge to sell you.
I single handedly took down the old buccaneers message board on their home site with my redneck idiot persona.
including but not limited to having the founder bounced.
I am ver sneeky
February 9th, 2015 at 4:56 pm
BuccaneerBozai, it is not only ironic , but par for the course for these pack of self admitted hayseeds and trolls like Robert 9.
I don’t know how many times these clowns have t prove I’m right about them.
Troll=Exhibit A, Robert 9. I mean what kind of idiot takes down a message board and brags about it. Only a troll and probably a closet Bears fan.
February 9th, 2015 at 5:00 pm
when he did that, i thought … oh great, jermey stevens is back with us. Ihope thats his only knucklehead move and he is ready to be a pro
February 9th, 2015 at 5:02 pm
It was what, his first touchdown? why not make it memorable.
February 9th, 2015 at 5:04 pm
Oh I forgot, highlight of the season, VJax 1000 yard receiving season. Despite rarely having any routes called for over the middle, VJax was able to net over a 1000 receiving yards despite having to run the same predictable routes called for by Arroyo over and over and over again.
February 9th, 2015 at 5:13 pm
hayseed? what kind of mumbo jumbo is that.
whats ironic is those that come on here and post a 4 paragragh essay or those that constantly bash others.
it’s a friggin blog. not like we’re writing a thesis or taking it personal. well not those with reasonable minds.
ddneast, take your motrin already

@ddneast
McCown yelling at the line of scrimmage….”Vincent…..go down 15 yards and head toward the sideline…..I’ll throw the ball toward your back shoulder, again”!!!
February 9th, 2015 at 5:18 pm
2 weeks prior ASJ gave up the winning fumble to Minn.
Nice job kid, go on and celebrate, it’s all good. #sarcasm
February 9th, 2015 at 5:19 pm

More like
“Vincent…..go down 15 yards and head toward the sideline…..I’ll throw the ball 20 feet over your head, again”!!!
February 9th, 2015 at 5:30 pm
This is a funny one Joe, I remember when he did this live I think the Bucs were down. Embarrassing!
February 9th, 2015 at 5:32 pm
Getting a penalty for that pose was BS. The NFL…..The No Fun League.
February 9th, 2015 at 6:32 pm
I am just glad Lovie is “treating men like men!”

Robert 9’s a more-on…a moor on….amour-on…

Teams don’t trade the #1 pick for a reason. Stop the nonsense. Draft your guy at QB and let’s get this rebuild started the way it needs to be started—with a QB, then build around him. The Rams are a fantastic example of how you can build your roster up all you want, but without a QB, you will never be relevant in this league.
February 9th, 2015 at 8:03 pm
You can’t afford to be stupid when your no good.
February 9th, 2015 at 9:49 pm
ASJ had a person sitting near each end zone to take that picture because he wanted to post it on instagram. He later admitted it was bad judgement
February 9th, 2015 at 10:10 pm
Just imagine the creative and penalty filled celebrations “Fameis” and ASF could concoct.
February 9th, 2015 at 10:13 pm
“The Rams are a fantastic example”
Will you cement heads stop already with the Rams. You are NOT making your point you are destroying it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Rams DID USE the #1 pick in the entire draft for a QB just a few years ago.
How is that working out for them. Not NEARLY as well as the up and coming young team they’re building by trading in the RGIII deal.
STOP USING THE RAMS AS AN EXAMPLE. THEY WOULD POINT TO THE WISDOM OF TRADING DOWN!!!
February 10th, 2015 at 12:36 am
@StPeteBucsFan
AKA, Cement head;
The up and coming young team they’re building consisted of two Pro-Bowlers, one of which was the DROY. They got a fantastic haul in the RGIII deal, and at this point in time, have undoubtedly fleeced the Redskins……..and they went 6-10, last in the NFC West. They need a QB badly. We need a QB badly. Nothing we do roster wise will put us in contention UNTIL we get a QB. That is the point I was making. You proved my point for me.
February 10th, 2015 at 1:08 am
@ DraftJameis
The Rams have built a very solid roster with all of those extra picks but badly need a QB.
The Bucs have a very weak roster needing 7-9 new starters and badly need a QB.
BIG DIFFERENCE
February 10th, 2015 at 7:24 am
Mr Patrick is right, the rams are pretty solid except at QB and some depth issues at OL; Bucs have numerous holes, but they went through a lot of bad, bad football to finally build a decent roster. The Rams got some solid picks via the RG3 trade but are also a team that won SIX games in a 3 year span (2007-2009) just before the RG3 trade after the 2011 season where the Lambs were 2-14. The 3 first round draft picks the Rams used from 2008 to 2010 were Bradford, OT Jason Smith and DE Chris Long. Smith was a bust and traded to the Jets, Bradford is an oft-injured bust and Long has been a all-pro alternate but rides the coattails of his Dad’s pedigree; not exactly what you’d want from a #2 pick overall but not a bust either; just a solid player. So the rams had 3 consecutive picks in the top 3 in the draft and whiffed; the fact that they ripped off the skins in the 2012 draft prevented them from whiffing in 4 top 3 draft picks in 5 seasons…. I’d rather not have the Bucs emulate the Rams either; solid players from the RG3 trade but a lot of losing since the Greatest Show on Turf won it all after the ’99 season and a lot of rebuilding; right now the Bucs are a couple of years behind the Rams in the rebuilding and I sincerely hope that whoever they draft turns into a better player than Bradford, Smith or Huey Long’s boy……

@Mr. Patrick
I agree with that assessment. Let’s say we trade #1 and land 3-4 quality starters (if we’re lucky). IF that were to happen, that would put us in the same boat as the Rams. A talented team with no QB.
