Mike Tomlin might understand Lovie Smith’s often forgotten statement
In many ways, Tampa Bay’s 2014 season was more bizarre than the MRSA-infected, quarterback-gone-mental, Fire-Schiano-billboards campaign of 2013.
There were plenty of real Bucs mysteries last year, and Joe’s revisiting the most interesting of the bunch.
No. 14 — The Glennon Clarification
All Bucs fans remember the mysterious “quarterback of the future” label Lovie Smith dropped on Mike Glennon during last year’s NFL Draft.
But often forgotten is Lovie taking that a step further during a halftime chat with Ronde Barber on a preseason telecast.
Lovie told Barber of Glennon, “In time, he will be leading our franchise.”
So what changed? Glennon played well twice (in Pittsburgh and New Orleans) and had a few rough outings before getting booted for one of the worst QBs in Bucs history. Considering Glennon’s age, experience and the entire franchise blaming the absence of offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford, Glennon’s play was pretty much what was expected.
Those, like Joe, who fear Lovie may pass on a quarterback on April 30, are not comforted by his preseason clarification on Glennon.

Glennon is there in case whomever the Bucs pick at #1 needs time to develop or struggles more than expected. In either case IF Glennon plays well it only enhances his trade value. Pretty sure L & L didn’t see JM as someone they could depend on for 1 to 2 years.

And yet anyone who dares claim Glennon just might end up not only still on the Bucs come camp but actually is the projected starter is called delusional by the know it all JBF bloggers. Smh. I keep saying wait and see how things play out, a lot of JBF posters looked pretty stupid after proclaiming for months the Bucs were drafting a QB on day one last year. Unlike some of the fans here most football front offices (including the Buc’s) actually like Glennon as a NFL QB

Joe knows the Glennon Mob and Lovie believe that Mike Glennon is a franchise QB! I fear that you are all not listening to Joe when he states that Lovie has Joe terrified he will not draft a QB in the #1 spot, but will trade down and take a defensive lineman/edge rusher! Lovie is a defensive minded coach….he can win with Glennon and a really stout defense!
Now, I am not sure who Lovie will get to coach that defense, but he is correct that teams have won the Super Bowl as many times with great defenses and a “Glennon” as QB1 as teams have won with a Hall of Fame QB like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, or Tim Tebow!!
So don’t be surprised if that really loud noise you hear from the draft is Joe
shreaking when Lovie trades down out of the #1 spot to take a defensive star, despite the fact that the Buc’s are 1 for 24 on drafting/free agency pickups of quality defensive players.
Joe knows Lovie cannot evalute talent so even if he does trade out of the #1 pick, it will probably be placing five (5) names on a dart board in Lovie’s Office and him throwing the dart blindfolded!!

MG8 is still the best QB on the roster!!!
MG8 has the 40 time, has the cannon! puts in the work! He just needs to work one off-season and training camp as the Man! let him take 1st team snaps and see what Happens!!!

glennon’s trade value goes off a cliff if we don’t trade him this offseason. next year is his final year under contract. you get alot more for a QB when he has 2 years left on his rookie deal, and the presence of the bucs’ #1 overall QB will severely undermine their leverage. if they don’t trade him this offseason they might as well let him run out his rookie deal as a top flight backup

I am now convinced that the Glennon benching late in the season had absolutely nothing to do with Glennon.
I believe Lovie was desperate to see even one or two games of the McCown he thought he brought in from last year…..If he had played well toward the end….he would still be on the team.
I still believe Glennon will be traded for a 2nd or 3rd round pick……he might even go to Denver….but probably Arizona or St. Louis.

Glennon is a solid NFL backup QB who will be inexpensive for the next couple of years. Nothing more – Nothing less. He is well worth keeping on that basis. But the Bucs have many needs and the temptation to trade Glennon for a 3rd round pick in order to fill an OL, MLB or DE hole with a potential starter will likely be to great for L&L to pass up once we have secured the real “QB of the future”.

Glennon goes to the Super Bowl and probowl first year as a full starter. You heard it hear first. Lol gotcha. It’s way too early to be mad. Lol

i wouldn’t trade glennon for less than a 2nd. Where else can you at worst get a back up qb who could blossom for a salary of 500k? Would you rather have chad henne for 2 million?

The only reason that Glennon (Melman) is a QB of the future, is that he surely isn’t a QB today.

If we could get a 2nd for him I sure would be tempted but as you said, why sign another journey man QB? At least Glennon has a good grasp of the present offense and under Koetter he might/will shine.
