More Quarterbacks
February 25th, 2015Still don’t think the Bucs should take Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota? Well, if you are in the crowd that wants to trade down, maybe this is for you.
In this BSPN report, “The Professor,” John Clayton, breaks down the other top quarterbacks in the draft and how they fared in the NFL Scouting Combine last week in frozen Indianapolis.

I thought Petty threw the ball pretty good myself.

lame
February 25th, 2015 at 1:17 pm
opinions will change again on their pro days. if mariotta and Winston are worlds apart don’t trade down but if the gap isn’t that far off in terms of reading defenses and arm talent then I could be on board with a trade down as long as we trade back into the first round to make sure we got a quarterback
February 25th, 2015 at 1:20 pm
No Thanks
Here is the problem with the others….once Mariota & Winston are chosen….and I believe both will be at least top 10….perhaps top 6….no matter what.
Then the next (maybe Petty) will likely be a reach to get ahead of the many other teams needing a qb…..So a QB that may be a 2nd round pick may end up in the 1st.
Also, this is the reason why I think we will get a pretty good draft pick for Glennon.

Petty’s arm is like a rifle with the accuracy of a water piston. It’s so sad to see a great arm wasted in the spread.
February 25th, 2015 at 1:43 pm
The other QBs in this draft are 3rd round and later QBs. They have more issues than Mariota and Winston combined.
February 25th, 2015 at 1:46 pm
TBBF,
I think the definition of reaching for a QB has changed, actually, we all know it has. In recent years we’ve seen the rules of the game strengthen the need for a QB. We’ve also seen the new CBA make them cheaper (rookie contracts at least). Demand goes up, cost goes down, you get the picture. 5 years ago, Petty in the first round might be a reach. Hell, Winston or Mariotta in the top 5 might be a reach… but not today, not anymore.
February 25th, 2015 at 1:49 pm
Just for the record… I would be fine with the Bucs trading back and selecting Bryce Petty to compete with Mike Glennon for the starting QB gig… I like Petty… And all the extra draft picks would help us rebuild a bit faster… Hopefully…
February 25th, 2015 at 1:58 pm
Don’t get me wrong….the drop off is steep after Winston and Mariota.
February 25th, 2015 at 2:01 pm
Ask the Texans and Bills how important a franchise QB is. I don’t care which one we take-I will leave that to our staff-but you simply CAN”T be a playoff team without one. And no talk either about trading down in round two. We can get another stud either at OL or MLB. Remember how the SB BUCS were built with strength down the middle.
February 25th, 2015 at 2:03 pm
Petty arm looks great! His accuracy not so much. But man the kid looks like Elway and Aikman had a kid together.

@Mac
Smartest comment I’ve read on here
In a while. Just beleve that is the best
Way for us to go. I believe Glennon can
Be great with OC Koetter and a good
Oline. I hope you agree

the time of peyton, brady, rivers, brees are all coming to an end. there is a very good chance that atleast 2 of these quarterbacks coming out of this draft are going to be in that class considered the new era of the quarterback. the one thing that will remain the same in this era and the next is that the top quarterbacks will be at the top of the draft, theres no such thing as trading down and getting a franchise quarterback without it being pure luck ask the patriots. jimmy garapalo may be the aaron Rodgers type of player but otherwise top 2 qb’s will be the best

seems to me the guys taken a little later have faired well.
tannehill, the guy in MN, when was the SEA QB picked?
sure wish we had a 3rd rounder on our roster. OH WAIT, WE DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
START HIM! would be the 1st time he got 1st team reps in training camp in his career.
think about it.

YOU ARE SERIOUSLY CONFUSED!!!! TANNEHILL WAS LIKE THE 3RD BEST RATED QB IN 2012 AND BESIDES THAT HE WAS DRAFTED 8TH OVERALL NOT……IF YOUR NOT SURE THAT IS A TOP TEN PICK, 3RD RANKED QUARTERBACK IN HIS DRAFT CLASS AND HE IS VERY MUCH AN AVERAGE QUARTERBACK WITH AN AVERAGE ARM WHICH IS WHY MIKE WALLACE ISNT THE EXPLOSIVE RECEIVER HE WAS IN PITTSBURG
February 25th, 2015 at 2:47 pm
lemon, it’s in mike glennon.
February 25th, 2015 at 2:48 pm
yes, he was 3rd ranked buc4lyfe. I think he is solid, and look who he was throwin to hartline LOL
to say he’s the reason wallace is a bust is a joke. wallace is a tweener and a diva. never was a true #1 and got way more than he was worth. the steelers surely have not missed him.
February 25th, 2015 at 3:02 pm
I’d take Tannehill all day, not his fault Mike Sherman is a terrible NFL coach/coordinator and only thought to use him like he did at A&M.. Mike Wallace is not a number 1 WR either.. You can put up good numbers for a couple years and not be considered a true #1 WR.. Anquan Boldin is the best example I can give.
Bridgewater was a 1st round pick… Russel Wilson was a 1st round talent with 5th round height… You ask anyone back then about Wilson and they would say the same thing.. Give him 3 more inches and he’d be a top 5 pick in the draft he was in.
Really needs to be some kind of moderation for people that are just assaulting other players or people on here.. It’s getting ridiculous on some of these threads..
February 25th, 2015 at 3:05 pm
who in the world is saying Wallace is a bust lol. im not giving you a hard time my friend all im saying is from your own mouth…..”I think he is solid, and look who he was throwin to hartline LOL” is that what you trade down for someone that looks solid? he’s an average quarterback but Miami cant do better than him and there are a lot of teams in that position. he’s no Philip rivers but I did say Wallace is a deep field threat and tannehill does not have a big arm, take that as you wanna take it but your words are tannehill is solid and that isn’t top 10 talent
February 25th, 2015 at 3:19 pm
the reached for tanneheill, agreed. he had very little experience as well, does not make him an excellent long term QB. not a top 10 draft talent agreed. i’m not saying we should reach for any #3 qb either for the record.
February 25th, 2015 at 3:53 pm
Robert 9 only doens’t want to take a QB because his boyfriend Glennon. He cares more about Glennon than the Bucs. Go be a Dolphins fan like you said you were!
February 25th, 2015 at 4:52 pm
Or he could see potential in Glennon and all those draft picks we get from the trade? There is nothing wrong with that…
I’m not comfortable with just Glennon nor do I think he was EVER the answer and would prefer we get Mariota but if we don’t go out and sign Mallet (young and promising out and sat behind Brady for 3 seasons I believe) to battle Glennon in camp and sign a veteran QB who has actually been successful in the NFL (Hasselbeck, Orton type)
February 25th, 2015 at 5:57 pm
Mallet?
No. Have you ever heard him talk?
I doubt he learned much from Brady, + how well have any of his backups ever played once on other teams? Not very well.
February 25th, 2015 at 6:07 pm
So Matt Cassell didn’t have a good year while he was in KC? Guessing Brian Hoyer wasn’t playing lights out before he tore his ACL… Congrats dude
Even if they DIDN’T have a good year which one of them had the talent that Mallet does? Keep moving along troll
February 25th, 2015 at 6:33 pm
Read up on this QB class. There are two good prospects and then a HUGE drop off. Experts are saying that Winston is the best QB prospect in the last 10 years outside of Luck!
They cannot and must not pass on both of these guys.
February 25th, 2015 at 7:53 pm
Some of you need to come to grips with your hate for Jameis Winston. He’s top pick worthy. All this crap about Brady and Wilson is absurd, they are one of a kind finds.
We may get a trade offer that is worth taking, I hope we do, because it would have to be exceptional. I’d trade ANY player for the right offer. If that doesn’t happen, we should pick Winston.
I’m going to list every QB taken #1 since 1980. 17 out of 34 picks have been QB’s.
Elway
Vinny
Aikman
George
Bledsoe
P Manning
Couch
Vick
Carr
Palmer
E Manning
Smith
Russell
Stafford
Bradford
Newton
Luck
There are 5 obvious flops in there, and two other possibilities in Smith and Bradford. We’ve got an even shot at getting a bust (Vinny, George, Couch, Carr, Russell) as we do getting a great (Elway, Aikman, Manning(2), Luck). There are an equal number of good but not great outcomes. My main point is this, when people say Winston is not worth the #1 pick, is that being based on the facts of the past? Or some personal hope of what the pick could be?
