Joe Is Back At It

February 19th, 2015

licht and florio

Good morning from frozen Indianapolis, where at 9:16 a.m. it is minus-2 degrees (Fahrenheit) with a wind chill of minus-26.

Folks are beginning to thaw out and stir at Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the 2015 NFL Scouting Combine. There is a buzz as sportswriters are feeling the caffeine, and feeling what today is. It is Jameis Day.

Later, no telling when, Jameis Winston will take the podium for his first press conference as a professional athlete. Yes, Marcus Mariota will do the same.

Joe has tons of stories already, and more to come throughout the day. So keep hitting that F5 button and tell your boss the Bucs are the highest priority.

With Joe, every day is “Jameis Day” just like last year when every day was “Johnny Football Day”

  2. knuckledragger Says:

I hope these kids throw on saturday cause Im taking the day off to watch

  3. knuckledragger Says:

    Agreed Bucs#1
Joe has become unprofessional in his coverage IMO and this is why Ive stopped reading the articles until after the draft is over. I just come in to read the comments

  4. The Real Malloy Says:

    Joe,

Are we going to ever have “Mariota Day”?

I saw this from an avid NO Saints fan and thought, there for the grace of God goes the Tampa Bay Bucs. Read the letter, and yes, they have a great quarterback, but they are also 23.5 million IN THE HOLE. TRhat’s right. The Saints are over 23 million OVER the cap. The Bucs are currently 30 million UNDER the cap.

i am an original saint….so….i am wanting the saints to get rid of all the players on offense (except brees) that they can contracturally do and same with defense period…..take our lumps next year and rebuild the whole team…..the general manager loomis got us in this mess and believe me it is a mess…..doing 20 steps to correct is a band aid…..clean the mess totally up and start from scratch but with a different approach than what loomis used…..pouring money into a position…..on a person is so stupid….how can one player make a team a super bowl contender when there are seven positions that are in dire straights….saints have no offensive line…..saints have no pass rush and only a moderate run stopping group….and absolutely no pass coverage….saints do not have a stalwart linebacker…..and the saints are way over the salary cap?……why???….because of the stupid deals that were made by the general manager…..so…..clean out the highest paid except brees and go with draftees and free agents that will take a much lower paycheck and play and build with some type of reasonable financial plan…..not a stupid loomis plan to spend spend spend and get nothing in return…..so to end this….check on next years contracts coming up and the following year too and all of you guys will see that the saints are in a giant financial mess for years to come if cleaning out is not done now while we still have a quarterback.

  6. Tom Edrington Says:

The only thing to keep in mind IF Winston is the pick.

He will be held to an incredibly HIGH standard.

He will have to perform both on and off the field. Major task for a fellow with his past.

  7. Eric Says:

Jameies weighed in and is in shape.

Poor haters. They were sooooooooooooo hoping that would not be the case.

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Joe…..i really appreciate your coverage….

Your credibility is another issue…..by deliberately omitting or downplaying Mariota on a regular basis strains your credibilty as a reporter and simply makes you a commentator. Perhaps that’s how you see yourself.
It’s insulting to many Buc fans….and your own readers to continue down this path.
It is perfectly OK for you to have a preference and to remind us of that…but, it’s the way you do it that IMO is damaging your standing with some of us.
You have every right to print what you wish, how you wish to do it, as many times as you want…..make no mistake “Joe can write about what interests Joe”…
I will continue to endure it.
Please don’t take this a “malicious intent” and send me to JBF pergatory (awaiting moderation)….It is simply meant as constructive criticism because I want you to be even more successful than you already are.

Amen! I also enjoy this site but the Winston jock sniffing is rediculous. We are all going to be experts on the Titans future QB. We need Mariota watch as well if we have to get force fed so much Winston love.

  11. BK Says:

    Eric-

Are you wearing a FSU parka too? Its sunny today in FL. You do realize he lost 12 pounds in recent weeks. He is trying to salvage his ON the field rep as hard worker…pfft!!! Most GMs see this clearly and I hope Licht is one of them. If the Bucs do draft Winston it will set this franchise back 5-10 years unless by some miracle Lovie does a repeat 2 and something team….and we can get another high draft pick. Do we want to relive last year again??? I have been hearing some teams are taking him off the board for round 1. I see him dropping like Manziel…who had the same character problems.

I want to be clear in that I do not wish Winston bad…I just wish he is not a BUC as I have seen his lack of character type too many times. I mean we had the “soldier”, MVP weed D Jack…I could go on but its history.

  12. Joe Says:

For those that pine for Mariota coverage, Joe is sure this link will suffice.

  13. Mike10 Says:

Look at Licht.. he looks like my pops on football sundays. Please get this guy on the other side of the TV and out of the front office of my favorite team!
