Will Koetter Produce Points?
January 16th, 2015It is nice that the Bucs’ new offensive coordinator isn’t, well, offensive (coughmarcusarroyocough). He seems to have a clue. More importantly, he knows how to move the ball.
Joe can’t remember a team that didn’t trumpet a new offensive coordinator as the second coming of Sid Gillman. However, the objective it so outscore the opponent.
Veteran sports columnist Gary Shelton checked in with his two cents on Koetter on his site, GarySheltonSports.com.
He likes balance. Who doesn’t? He doesn’t like turnovers. Who does? He likes explosive plays? We’d vote for more of that.
Still, there is something about Koetter’s resume that makes you think the Bucs might be onto something. The Bucs still need parts. But at least they know what color to make a blueprint anymore.
Joe doesn’t know what to make of this hire. Sure, on paper it sounds great. What about in practice — in games?
With ill-suited Marcus Arroyo running the offense, how many times did we hear Bucs coach Lovie Smith grouse after a game the team gave up too early on the run? Yet he’s the head coach. Geez.
If Lovie is willing to stay out of the way of a guy who was so far over his head he was growing gills, let’s hope Lovie also stays out of the way of a guy who, per his resume, is not scared of putting points on the board.

I don’t care who the OC is here, the Bucs will not have a successful offense until they overhaul this entire offensive line. It all starts up front

Hopefully koetter makes a case to sign iupati from SF. We got the cap space and definitely the need. Hes 27 and we can sack mankins or move him to rg

We are fortunate to have Koetter…it is early in the process and there are other OC jobs available……Lovie’s confidence poll will increase because of this hire.
There is no reason to believe that the offense will improve….we will most certainly make changes with our Oline….probably pick a top QB prospect and Sims & ASJ will have a full training camp & pre-season to gain experience and make improvements.
The greatest improvement will come from the experienced playcalling from an OC that knows the NFC South defenses. I will be extremely interested in who will be hired as QBs coach…..

If we could have a mediocre offense we could do great next year. Remember, we won the Super Bowl with a team that averaged 21.6 ppg. Our defense now isn’t at the same level of dominance as our 02-03 team, but we have the pieces on defense to be great if we can sustain a few drives on offense and not allow so many possessions to the opposition.

Koetter’s 2015 playbook simplified…Glennon to Evans or Jackson = TD. That is assuming the Bucs can actually field an offensive line capable of pass protecting more than 2 seconds after the ball is snapped.

At this point, there’s nothing but CONJECTURE….
Remember how many out there were excited by Ted Jefford, or was it Jeff Tedford, or someone else, who was that guy anyway, ah yes, he’s in such demand he went to Canada!
Who knows what will happen, just TONS of conjecture, we don’t even know what this roster will look like come June.
Right now, we’ve got as good a clue as Lovie did this past season and this past season, Lovie was clueless!

Glennon to Evans or Jackson += TD ? Please. Trade that Melman wannabe for whatever we can get, he is not the QB of the future, he is the benchwarmer of the present and the future and I want him to warm the bench on another team so MGM will finally shut up. He’s the franchise benchwarmer…period. StatuesRUs called and wanted Melman back, their stock is low and so is his.

Marcus Arroyo is officially not on the Bucs staff anymore:

We need Glennon to be the QB until the new draftee is ready, we cannot have another year of McCown period.
We do need an offensive line that is aggressive and mean. We have every thing else.

Joe..
Why did you post a picture of Chibbs from Sons of Anarchy?!

except for the FACT that we’ve already seen what the Dirk Koetter offense looks like in the NFL.
I’m far more confident going into this offseason than i was last offseason.

If only Tebow was good enough to warm benches

Will Koetter Produce Points? NO..but the players he coaches will.

Really excited to see Mariotta, 4 wide receiver sets, Martin on draw plays, quick passes.

I’ve seen Atlanta fans joke/complain that Koetter is king of the bubble screen. Guess we’ll find out. We could have used more well timed screens last year – but they lose their effectiveness in a hurry if overused.

That’s a great idea, dump a bunch of money on an offensive guard! Why didn’t I think of that? Or Dominik with Davin Joseph and Carl Nicks or Licht with Mankins? Seriously? You don’t need a stud OG to have a good OLine. The 2 OGs positions might be the least important positions on the offensive side of the ball. You don’t dump a bunch of money on an OG… it’s just plain stupid and besides that, it has never worked for anybody. Pay and even over pay the LT, pay the R, but interior linemen are a dime a dozen. Get a decent player at a bargain and solidify the tackle positions.

Commenting just to add number count…..what a low number count….so sad the collective who post here skipped over this. But a QB posty, OH MY!
