The results of this poll are not going to go over well with Nole fans!!!

  2. 87ForJamesOrMariota Says:

    TBBF…now tell Joe thank you.

  3. Another J Says:

Winston is the more NFL Ready of the 2!

  4. bucsQcCity Says:

I’m warming up to Winston but either QB is fine with me.. OC is as importnt as the selected QB

  5. theodore Says:

I voted to trade down, let McCown get us another #1 overall next year.

  6. Buccfan37 Says:

I honestly don’t have a freaking clue who to take.

  7. Nick White Says:

winston might be more NFL ready next year, but we arent winning a SB next year, 5 years down the road mariota will be a pro bowl caliber QB, winston will be out of the league a la vince young

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Thank you Joe…..for the long awaited much requested(mainly by the TBBF) poll…..and, my complements to you coming from someone with a marketing research background…..your question choices are right on except for no “other”….ie LT, MLB……but that would be covered with the “trade down” group…..so….RIGHT ON!!!

  9. Fort Myers Dave Says:

Trade down depends on what the Bucs get: if they are offered the Eagles 1st 2nd and 3rd rounders for 2015/2016 and their 2017 first rounder and Nick Foles it could be hard to refuse. If they are offered something far less like only a couple extra picks to allow someone like the Jets or Skins to move up then its much easier just to grab the top qb whether it be Mariota or Winston. Perhaps fleecing the Titans for a second rounder for swapping spots would be okay if the Bucs were certain to get their targeted qb at #2 but the Titans could then go and trade out themselves and jam the Bucs up…. Good idea for the poll Joe, its actually a tad overdue!

  10. bucrightoff Says:

Let’s see…0 top ten QBs who are Heisman winners….4 playoff wins by Heisman QBs in the last 30 years….Brett “the Hitman” Hundley needs to be getting more consideration if we’re drafting a QB. He doesn’t have any of the black marks against him.

  11. lightningbuc Says:

My choice wasn’t listed on the poll:

Trade the pick straight up to Cleveland for John Manziel. He’s really good – Joe said so all last off-season.

  12. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

After the evaluation period is over and there is still debate, we should if the iggles want to, trade with them and get a Rams deal from them along with Nick Foles, the bucs are about 17 players away from having a good starting 22, so we need as much help as we can get, problem is lovie and licht suck at evaulating talent

  13. jim Says:

Winston is the more NFL ready QB. BUT… You don’t take a head case and off field Problem with the #1 pick. See. Case history exhibit #1? See Payton Manning vs Ryan Leaf

  14. BigBlockJacen Says:

Winston will decide that Baseball is the way to go and give up football. We need to get an OC before we decide on a QB. My choice would be Greg Roman with Mariota at the helm. I think the 2 would mesh well together and combine the spread offense, with Mariota, V-Jax, Evans and Jenkins….we may have some nice wins. We do need some help on the O-line but with a mobile QB…you can get away with a less than perfect line.

  15. SlowBucs813 Says:

Alot of bucs fans talk out their ass like they know the kid. I hope the bucs take winston with a stud OC to shut up all these chior boy fans up who probably have a criminal record of their own. Oh yeah drafting buccaneer men how has that worked out for us for the past decade. We need a couple of bad asses on this team with emotion, no more soft spoken leaders. I hope we pick up Suh while were at it.

  16. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Fort Myers Dave

The trade down selection is one that everyone would choose if it met their trade down requirement……but being realistic…..and realistic can’t be known…..the pick is worth exactly what another team offers….nothing more….

  17. armchairGM Says:

I honestly am losing faith in the Bucs even drafting a Qb , you just cannot trust Lovie. The man thinks differently than anyone else and is stubborn enough to listen to conventional wisdom and do what he feels is right because he has the wisdom.

  18. BucNears Says:

I think if the poll didn’t give Mariotta as an option, trading down would win over selecting Winston. Can’t wait till tomorrow when The Big Dog chews the Joes up again about the QB position. Listening to the Joes get embarrassed on the radio is a must listen for all Gleenon/Winston haters..

  19. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

Winston’s throwing mechanics bother me. They can be fixed, but I’m not a fan of it. His pocket presence isn’t that great either. Winston has regressed in these aspects from last year. Mariota has improved in those aspects this year. To me that lets me know that Mariota has a higher upside as he is willing to learn and has progressed since he first started playing, which is what you want to see in a QB.

  20. jdogg81 Says:

If we stay at number 1 we should take mariota but we could move back n get more picks

  21. OB Says:

All the great QBs had/have the ability to think fast and act on their take of the situation. Mariota has this ability and I don’t Winston does, he had all day to throw in the Rose Bowl and still didn’t get it done. Mariota did not have all day to throw and he got it done.

We have better receiver then either of them have ever seen and they just want a QB that can deliver so they can catch and run. So I say pick him and turn loss the Bucs of war.

  22. greg Says:

I think I am going to stay away from this site until May 2015…it is going to be the same nonsense repeated over and over again until then

  23. biff barker Says:

    ——————————-

So true. Years of watching Freeman miss those slants was painful. Both guys have the arm to throw strikes too.

  24. BucNears Says:

Joe, is each device allowed to only vote once? I’d hope you don’t have your Winston lovers out there voting over and over. It wouldn’t suprise me being you’re so much a Winston fan and would do anything to prove your worthless choice.

Yes, you can only vote once. –Joe

  25. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ BucNears

If you try to vote again…..you get a notice telling you that you have already voted so I assume nobody can vote more than once. This a popularity contest and not a scientific poll for a variety of reasons….but it is a good barometer of JBF readers.

  26. ToesOnTheLine! Says:

Holding my vote for the moment…if Winston starts catching up I’ll vote Mariota. If it stays a landslide victory for Mariota then I’ll probably vote trade down, draft pass rushers and OL men, and uncork the Cannon next year. Truthfully it’s tough to vote without knowing who the Bucs will hire for OC and QB coach, that is a big factor on things.

  27. Erik with Clean Athletics Says:

Right now, we have a ratio of about 2 geniuses to every 1 ignoramus….

  28. rayjay1122 Says:

I voted for the Duck to become a Buc.

  29. armchairGM Says:

I wonder how this poll would look on a national stage rather than what is almost a local one.

  30. BradentuckeyBuc Says:

Let’s take a look at this years playoff QB’s…

Brady, Manning, Rogers, Luck, Wilson, Romo, Flacco, Roethlisberger, Newton, Stafford, Dalton

In my opinion only Newton and Wilson land on the freakishly athletic scale.

Most of these guys are off the charts when it comes to Intelligence, Decision Making and, with the exception of Roethlisberger, Character…on and off the field.

Winston is undoubtedly athletic but his Intelligence, Decisions and Character are all huge question marks.

Mariota grades high across the board.

    My predictions…

    Winston = Freeman/VYoung

    Mariota = Wilson

  31. Yusef A Taufiq Says:

i picked Marcus Mariota, because 1. He doesn’t have off the field issues. 2. He’s a very talanted QB,and 3. You haven’t really mentioned this Joe, which i’m kinda surprised, and maybe I missed it, but we don’t even know if Winston will enter the draft, alot of his supporters seem to think he may play college ball for another year before he declares..

  32. armchairGM Says:

Found this article interesting as it describes the way I feel, for all of you trade down guys :http://www.tampabay.com/sports/football/bucs/trade-bucs-should-just-say-no-with-no-1-pick/2212493

  33. Mike Says:

I don’t want a QB that you have to Design a system for and one that only is effective with a high power run offense (Mariota). I want a pure passer, a pocket QB that can read defenses and be tough enough to stand in the pocket take a hit but make an accurate throw. Winston is the better NFL QB, He has the best chance to step in right away with that awful O-line and still make enough plays to win a game.

  34. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I’m for selecting a QB with the #1 but we MUST pay attention to the price.

A top pick is ONE pick. If we got three picks in top three rounds for the next three years even without Foles we’d have to listen.

Six picks versus one. It’s simply an investment decision using diversification.

The odds of failing on one pick are pretty high…about 50-50 near the top I believe.

The odds of blowing SIX picks are much less. Bound to find an Evans or GMC or LD somewhere in the mix.

I’m for selecting the QB but only for the right price. I do not wish to pay two first rounders, two second rounders, and two third rounders for that privilege. IF somebody is dumb enough to offer all of that.

  35. NewTampaChris Says:

I voted for Winston. He’s self-centered, prone to misbehaving, got a criminal record, argues with coaches on the field — I’d say he’s totally NFL-ready.

  36. D-Rome Says:

I really don’t understand most of you pining for Mariota. We have ample evidence time and time again that spread offense QBs are not very successful in the NFL. That last game shouldn’t have convinced anyone of anything other than that Mariota can hit receivers who don’t have any defenders within a 10′ radius.

  37. JTHV Says:

Leaving the future of the franchise in the hands of the same fans who danced down Dale Mabry Hwy the day Gruden was fired? No thanks, I’ve had enough of the idiot Buc fans.

    Draft Jameis.

  38. Zam Says:

You know what this means? A whopping 49% of fans DON’T WANT MARIOTA.

Let’s see ya spin this one Joe… 😉

  39. Luther Says:

78% so far think we should pick either one. What are you other 22% smoking. You have to take a chance on one of them. I like McCown being here to groom his replacement not to get us another shot next year.

  40. carlstoe Says:

75% want no part of Crab Legs! If Mariota was more accurate in the Rose Bowl, the Ducks score 80+ points!

  41. JTHV Says:

    Mariota can’t play in pocket.

When he does and he’s succesful, it’s because the defense is either gassed or just plain not ready for the switch up from him optioning the ball all over the place.

Mariota is NOT a good QB. He’s a bust. Absolute bust.

I’d pick BPA on defense or trade down if Winston doesn’t declare.

  42. ChanEpic Says:

I bet my LIFE the Mariota people are the MGM rebranded. Still vehement, still not any good at QB evaluation at the NFL level.

We have a guy like that on the roster. He completed a BA and an MBA in 4 years while playing fb. Most college kids would take 6-7 years to do the same wo fb. He was also good enough to beat FSU (1 of 3 in 3 years). He actually looks and plays a lot like Flacco and almost beat Wilson in his house. Sure he never got a chance to develop or never had a full offseason with the first string due to FAVORITISM. But hey let’s keep throwing away our 1st rnd (barron, Revis ) 2nd rnd (bowers) and 3rd rnd picks (glennon) for 5th n 6th rounders. That’s probably the best way to build a championship team. While we’re at it lets trade our best players (Vjax, wright) for a sub and a bag of chips. While overpaying scrub FAs (Collins, cousins) the fact that cousins gets paid is overpayment enough. Let’s get rid of penn who had one bad game againt Robert Quinn when the entire league had bad games against Robert Quinn. And finally lets pin our hopes, dreams and team identity to an ice cream salesman.

We on our way boys. #1 overall pick here we come ( for the next 5 years). Ay vey!

  44. Tye Says:

25% vote for Winston…. I assume most if not all of them are Florida StAte fans… This is close to the same results that the other site ended with…

Winston picked #1 would forever tarnish and destroy the prestige of that pick…

  45. BucIt941 Says:

If you erase the character issues It’s Winston hands down to everyone! People are often to fast to judge! I’m aware of the risk but I want to win now and so does Lovie. No one has time to sit around and work on another project! Winston is a plug and play QB with incredible talent. I’ll take that and work on his attitude like a good coach should anyways! 2014 was the first year we didn’t get negative news headlines from off the field issues with this team. Lovie doesn’t play that non sense so I am not concerned! It’s Winston or bust! If Winston get’s drafted and starts winning ball games, watch how fast bandwagon fans will be back!

  46. PRBucFan Says:

About 75% of our fanbase has brains.

  47. tbaybuc Says:

Lets get something straight here. I am an FSU alumni and can only speak for myself, but i would say there is a lot of FSU fans who do not only want Jameis because he is from FSU. Case and point, EJ Manuel and Ponder were never guys who i thought had a good shot at being good in the NFL nor guys who i would have wanted the Bucs to draft. “It” factor or whatever you want to call it, they just don’t have it. I cant argue with the maturity and off field decision making argument and if that is your case, then although debatable, its fair enough with the amount of responsibility that comes with being the #1 pick and franchise QB, but if this is about on field talent, then you have got to look at the total body of work. This is where being an FSU fan doesn’t necessarily make you a homer with Garnet and Gold glasses who wants you to take FSU players with every pick of the draft, it makes you also someone who has watched a lot of Jameis play’s and the throws that he makes. You have to go back to the first game at Pitt last year for him and look at his throws, decisions, ect and decide. Same with MM, which i have admittedly not done. I am not someone who is totally against MM, but he does scare me in the games ive seen because he does seem to miss some open throws to open receiver, which seem to be WIDE open a lot. Jameis on the other hand is more keen to trying to fit the ball into extremely tight windows, which can pay large dividends or lead to turnovers. Just my 2 cents. At the end of the day, i just hope we can trust Lovie to make the right call because when its all said and done, we have no say and they are going to do what they want to on draft day!

  48. Brandon Says:

I hate the Noles but Winston is a special talent ON the field. On the field he is every bit as good as Andrew Luck was in college.

  49. Tom Says:

Mariota’s ceiling is kaepernick. Winston’s ceiling is luck, maybe favre. And let’s not pretend brett favre didn’t have any off the field issues

  50. Sam Says:

The problem with Winston…..is that as good as he is ON the field…..behavior OFF the field will prevent him from playing in the NFL.

  51. theodore henke Says:

QB work in progress not the solution. Trade #1 for value and fill other needs first. Look for the kid from OK State further down the line (round 3 or 4). I seem to recall a guy named “Montana drafted 82nd overall who worked out well.

  52. PRBucFan Says:

In all fairness you don’t know either of their ceilings…
