Mike Evans Discusses Self, Draft

Bucs WR Mike Evans offers thoughts on who should win NFL "Rookie of the Year" and who the Bucs should draft at No. 1.

Mike Evans offers thoughts on who should win NFL “Rookie of the Year” and who the Bucs should draft at No. 1.

Just about the only bright spot at the Den of Depression, other than gawking at Bucs cheerleader Tricia Cusmano, was the play of rookie receiver Mike Evans.

The rest of the team? It was only slightly better than watching a Bucs fan in the men’s room heave up his tailgating brunch after throwing down too many not-so-cold-beers-turned-warm, compounded by witnessing Josh McCown’s garish turnovers. That’s a toxic blend.

Recently, Evans had a sitdown with John Sabol, of WFTS-TV Channel 28, to discuss who should win the rookie of the year award, and which quarterback to draft with the No. 1 overall pick.

Surprisingly, Evans isn’t sure he is the NFL’s top rookie. Watch him explain below.

If only he had Mike Glennon throwing him the ball. McCown ruined his chance at ROY.

  2. tmaxcon Says:

Barry he did have Mike Glennon throwing the ball… Glennon couldn’t reach him deep though. 8 not accurate and cannon fires BBs. Glennon will do better next year on the radio.

  3. Jim Says:

tmaxcon – you said it all. Glennon aka ‘cement shoes’ is not mobile and can only complete dink passes.

  4. bucrightoff Says:

ODB put up a historic run and had the best rookie season since Randy Moss. Pretty obvious who the rookie of the year was. Evans was great, ODB was simply sensational. Lol at Cleveland passing on him for Justin Gilbust, and then passing on Bridgewater and Carr for Johnny 8Ball.

Remember for as bad as things can get here, we’re not the Browns. It can always be worse.

    @tmaxcon

funny how MG8 still average 40 yards per game more than Mccown dispite playing against the higher ranked defenses. I don’t think you meant to lie, you just don’t know what you are talking about, aka uninformed.

  6. tmaxcon Says:

Raise your standards pal. Comparing two turds is pointless. McCown is horrible. Glennon can not and will not ever lead the bucs to a super bowl victory. The goal is super bowl victories period. I’m glad you like him though everyone needs supporters. Next qb please.

  7. The Buc Realist Says:

    @tmaxcon

sooo, you started the comparison? are you drunk already? and of course neither QB’s will take the Bucs to the Superbowl. But here is a news flash. Lovie will not take the Bucs to the Superbowl as well. Especially when he is selecting the offensive coordinators.

  8. tmaxcon Says:

Dude I’m a little hungover from my b day party last night but don’t think I’m drunk still. Thanks for asking though. I did not compare, I wrote he could not. I never mentioned McCown. Glennon sucks move on. I agree lovie will be and needs to be back in basement. my comments against both Lovie and Glennon are very consistent I dislike both very much.

  9. McBuc Says:

Lovie took the Bears to the SB, so why can’t he take the Bucs.

  10. tmaxcon Says:

    McBuc

Accidents happen. Rule changes and modernization of the game have passed stubborn lovie by. He can’t evaluate talent or learn new tricks. Back to the basement lovie.

NO THANKS to any of JBF’s quarterback wants

Beause that was 10 years ago? NFL is sort of different now. And look deeper into that season, Devin Hester took them to the Super Bowl in an incredibly weak NFC (remember Jeff Garcia leading the Eagles to the 3 seed?). NFC is now a least twice as difficult as then and the game is totally different.

Best case for Lovie as our coach is being in the 6-10 to 10-6 zone, which is to say we’ll be mediocre. I get people badly want to be mediocre rather than horrible, but mediocre is simply circling the drain at a slower pace than being awful. It’s not very good and we should strive for better.

  14. tmaxcon Says:

I’m a huge Brad Johnson fan gatorbuc17. Nice try but Try again. Johnson had a far more successful career than 8 will ever have.

  15. gatrbuc17 Says:

Dude since you are such the swami can I have the Montana Lottery numbers for tonight?

  16. tmaxcon Says:

I am no swami but I am convinced both Lovie and 8 are not winners nor will ever win a super bowl in Tampa.

    I’d go with

    5 13 83 87 10 18

  17. gatrbuc17 Says:

There will be no 5 in any of my numbers. Lol

  18. The Buc Realist Says:

    @tmaxcon

    Brad Johnson’s first 2 years of pro-football

    Td’s 0
    Int 2

    played 9 games!!!!

looks like MG8 has had far more success in the first 2 years!

  19. DB55 Says:

Evans is better than at least 2 or 3 of the receivers who made the pb.

  20. tmaxcon Says:

I would counter with 8’s double digit loses in his starts.

  21. "TheKevin" Says:

    @tmaxipad

You are an idiot acting like you know anything about anything.

You are so sure you are an expert I guess.

Nice to be able to predict the future. You moron.

When the bucs start to win again do not be looking for a spot on the train. You will be tied to the tracks with the rest of the moron haters.

Worst fan base in the league.

No other “fans” hate on their team more than bucs fans

And mr maxi pad, or maixcon or whatever is a prime example.

    Go bucs.

    F the haters.

  22. tmaxcon Says:

Good morning Kevin have a nice day… lol

  25. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It’s the off-season……Saturday AM….if we draft Winston…..this is about the time I’m starting to be relieved that he didn’t do anything really stupid last night….

  26. Pickgrin Says:

Glad we have Evans – it is obvious that he will be a great Bucs receiver for many years to come. I like his attitude and the way he presents himself.

If the Bucs draft Winston – those 30-40 yard bombs from Winston to Evans are really going to be something to see…

Joe thanks for sharing the cheerleader in bikini pic link 🙂

Famous pulls too, he’s just a little more aggressive about it.

  28. Eric Says:

Lovie is the one who drafted the rookie of the year candidate.

    Outstanding job of talent evaluation.

  29. Howard Cosell Says:

There should be only one question deciding the Bucs draft:
Who is the Best Player Available?

Franchise QB’s are an elusive beast and worth pursuing but
not at the expense reason. There’s as much chance of an NFL
veteran having turn-around (Brees in New Orleans) as there is
of a high 1st rounder turning into a franchise QB.

    Howard agrees with Mr Patrick:
Leonard Williams + GMC = wins
    Winstiota + Bucs = ???

  30. Howard Cosell Says:

    Lets see:
    Mike Evans or Johnny JamBoogie?
    That’s a tough call.

  31. nano107 Says:

Glennon has a cannon for arm. Pitt game is a testament to that.
    Bad O-Line, Worst Coaching!!!!
Mariotta and Winston have bust written all over!!! Mariotta is a system QB and will struggle against NFL defenses. Winston BIG character issues!!!!!
Trade down get more picks and build a massive O line.
VJax & Evans had 1000 yds each with a sucky QB and the worst O line in Football!!!
WE NEED OL draft some MONSTERS like the Cowgirls Did!!!!

  32. JFat Says:

Glad Lovie took Evans instead of going with the popular choice in the comments section here at the time. Hopefully, he does the same this year.

  33. Mr. Patrick Says:

    Winnin’ With Glennon!!!

  34. Eric Says:

Our offense should Improve just by the fact that we have a good oc who will be there for training camp and season.

Lovie will make a great choice at one just like he did last year.

    Go Lovie. Go bucs.

  35. SteveK Says:

    The Kevin,

Change your manpon broski, you seem to be suffering from toxic shock.

  36. Barry Says:

Funny how some hated Johnny Football and all his red flags but now the same ppl really don’t care about the red flags of Winston even though one red flag is sexual assualt (accused of rape). Interesting.

  37. Joe Says:

    You are welcome, Pick.

  38. Couch Fan Says:

I hope GMC+Williams=TDs also because thats the only way we’ll score enough points with those 2 to win with no QB.

  39. Buccfan37 Says:

If Lovie is anything you have to say he is at least honest. Honesty fits his personna more than any other attribute. I don’t think Glennon is going anywhere. His opposition claims he only throws dink passes and that is all he is capable of. That is pure baloney. Gruden said he can make all the throws. He may not be the most nimble footed, yet his upside with better line play is clearly within notice. QB of the Bucs future, I’ll stick with that.

  40. lurker Says:

wr was deep last year, as has been said. shoulda got a qb with 1 and receiver with 2. then this year woulda been d-line or o-line.

now we are in desperation mode at qb!

  41. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I certainly understand the Lovie hate after a 2-14 season. I was unhappy this year because I thought he had committed to Dungyball which is outdated.

But Lovie was never advertised as a offensive guru, and in fact it’s been widely documented that is his Achilles heel. He got to the SB with Rex GROSSman!!

Taking Tedford last year made me believe Lovie had learned and was ready to open it up a bit. Tedford’s heart condition prevented us from ever finding out.

But the fact that he selected Koetter makes me believe Lovie understands his offensive shortcomings. The dude is a SB coach. For Gawd’s sake we can give him the respect he’s earned on the scoreboard and wait to see how things unfold this year.

Again I’m far from a Lovie guy because I like offense, but when guys achieve a high level of accomplishment, how many coaches have EVER reached the SB I think they’ve earned a little respect. Just sayin’.

  42. lurker Says:

    lovie smith mistruths/lack of honesty:

    on revis
“…but I just want you to know, especially [in reference to cornerback] Darrelle Revis, we don’t play Cover-2 every snap. We have a place for a great cover corner that’s physical and can do all things.”

on the offensive line needing to gel
“It’s been talked an awful lot about “the offensive line, they have to play together’’,’’ Smith said, via ESPN. “I don’t buy that at all. ”

    on defense wins games
“”If you have great defense, create turnovers and great special teams, you can win 10 games. From there, the quarterback comes in,” he said

  43. lurker Says:

“but we are a 4-12 team” when he wasn’t here

made tons of changes and wasted money to a 2-14 team

but has he said “we are a 2-14 team” since he had the helm?

I never complained about Manziel’s off the field stuff. I always maintained that I could care less about all the stuff. I didn’t want Manziel because I felt and still feel is a dead man running in the NFL.

I don’t care about the off the field stuff as much as you sissy liberals do.

    Whine.
