“A Complete Jerk”

Rodney Harrison of NBC Sports invoked the notorious Ryan Leaf in discussing the Bucs

Yes, Joe brought you the explosive words from Phoenix for Dashon Goldson, delivered by former Chargers and Patriots safety Rodney Harrison. It was blunt and it was passionate and it was not pretty.

But it wasn’t just Goldson that had Harrison’s attention.

Harrison said the first and foremost thing Lovie Smith must fix to save his job and succeed is a quarterback.

“You have to get some stability at the quarterback position,” Harrison told Joe. “But you have to be careful. I know everyone on the draft board has Jameis Winston as the No. 1 guy. But I played with a guy in Ryan Leaf who was a complete jerk. And he can bring complete dissension to a locker room. You have to be careful who you decide to draft.

“I look at a Marcus Mariota and maybe he doesn’t have a certain skillset that Jameis has. But the one thing you have to worry about is character. And I think that is just so important. Because one bad pick can set your franchise back years.”

Joe understands everything Harrison said, but let’s remember, if you draft — pick any position — at No. 1 and swing and miss, it will set your franchise back.

Joe totally gets Harrison’s statement but comparing Winston to Leaf is a bit unfair. Leaf was an arsehole, on and off the field. Joe has never read one item at all where Winston was a bad teammate. Not one. If there is such a story out there, e-mail it to Joe.

Harrison was making a great point until he invoked Leaf. Bucs icon Derrick Brooks is fond of Winston. Given Brooks’ character, Joe believes that holds a lot more weight than a silly comparison to Leaf.

Joe understands everything Harrison said, but let’s remember, if you draft — pick any position — at No. 1 and swing and miss, it will set your franchise back.

Which is why many of us want to go all Bobby Beathard and trade down for more picks! We ALL want a QB. Some believe that MGM can be a competent (Matty Ice/Joe Flacco) kind of QB. MGM’s stats have done nothing to defuse that belief.
He should get one more year under an ACTUAL NFL caliber OC to see what he really has. If we are that convinced the only way to get a “franchise QB” and yet we fear the two possibilities this year are too big a risk, we could still trade down and pile up a load of draft choices to trade back up for Hackenberg or another QB next year.

We all want a QB. Some think Glennon deserves at least ONE genuine opportunity. Others are simply afraid the top two choices this year are not worth the gamble.

  2. Captain Stagger Says:

Well, I know a few ladies, a Burger King employee, and a publix employee who think he’s a jerk….

  3. Phillip Says:

No that’s not true Joe especially if you were to draft one of the DE’s(Gregory or the other guy who I can’t think of right now) first overall.. You swing and miss.. Okay guess what? That is what FA is for… Ya you got to pay them a hell of a lot more money and they are older(but most likely proven) but it doesn’t set you back as bad as you think.

Actually it’s true basically for every position EXCEPT for QB..

If say Amari Cooper is a bust you can go out and get a Pierre Garcon, Mike Wallace, TY Hilton type WR next year ( just examples) in FA.

Plenty of examples if Gregory is a bust too or any other player EXCEPT for QB..

People don’t let quality QB’s roam the streets unless they are coming off a severe injury and have a young backup who they drafted in the first round (Brees Rivers)

  4. Mr. Patrick Says:

Jameis Winston is who he is and there’s not a thing that Derrick Brooks or anybody else can do about it.
Ryan Leaf + JaMarcus Russell + Vince Young + Byron Leftwich + David Carr = Jameis Winston

  5. Newbucsfan!!! Says:

This comment is based on another article on this site:
I want Winston as the Bucs QB but would consider a trade down possibly twice for more picks. The gamble is that the Titans won’t take Winston with their 1st pick. After the Titans I think that Winston could fall because I don’t see the jets, bears, rams or raiders taking a QB. The Titans may be cool with thier QB but do the Bucs want to take that chance?

  6. Mr. Patrick Says:

I imagine that Joe is hearing a whole lot of that sort of thing about his guy Winston in Arizona. It must be very difficult for him

  7. mike30#1bucfan Says:

One wins Championships one falls short! I read how people are praising a QB for his RUNNING ability(wow)………… My personal opinion is that there are mostly Gator fans and overall racist A-holes on this board commenting on JW as a person! I have seen a complete change out of the kid since the Clemson game was taking from him through his own actions. There are no more character concerns with JW so just stop bringing up the past! What every team gets JW is going to be really good for years to come!!!

  8. Robert 9 Says:

    character ir destiny

    winston=bust

  9. Robert 9 Says:

  10. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

Anyone who compares Jameis to Leaf, JaMarcus Russell or anyone else like that just exposes that they know absolutely nothing about Jameis and have no business commenting on the subject.

Take a look at Jameis before the Clemson game his Freshman year and take a look at Ryan Leaf yelling at reporters in the locker room and tell me they’re the same guy. This is just asinine

  11. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ New
Do you think that the Titans would draft a character like Winston right in the middle of the Bible Belt? That would be a tough sell to the fanbase

  12. Mr. Patrick Says:

  13. Stpetebucsfan Says:

    @mike30

    overall racist A-holes

Your debating skills are unparalleled. If someone doesn’t agree with you play the race card. Actually that’s called projection. It’s YOU who are the racist for even bringing it up!!!

@other posters with a sentient brain.

Do you all deny that football is a TEAM sport. Yes everybody concedes that QB is the single most important position but not the only position.

So from a TEAM perspective let’s compare Jameis to other QB’s. Take Connor Cook of Michigan State.

In the 2014 draft MSU had 1 first round draft pick and ZERO other picks in seven freaking rounds. Cook got to play with ONE NFL caliber player around him.

FSU had 1 first rounder and five more in the first four rounds. Jameis got to play with SIX NFL caliber players compared to Cook’s ONE.

    In the 2015 Mock drafts..

MSU has ZERO projected picks in the first three rounds and 2 in the 4th. That’s two NFL caliber players that Cook got to play with this year. Twice the number of last year.

FSU has FOUR FIRST ROUND picks not counting Jameis who makes it five. FSU has 4 in the 2nd and O’Leary in the 3rd for a total of 9 NFL quality players surrounding Jameis.

Jameis does not walk on water. He’s clearly a talented athlete. But who knows how good Cook might be if he was surrounded by NINE NFL caliber players instead of just 2 4th rounders.

Now according to mike30 I guess that makes me a racist a$$hole for daring to compare his BELOVED Jameis to a white QB.

Some of you Jameis lovers really need to get your hormones under control and put on some big boy pants and stop with the gratuitous insults of anybody who doesn’t worship Jameis the way you do.

And again…if the Bucs do their due diligence and draft Jameis I’ll become a Jameis fan. But if he gets caught doing something really horrid away from the game I shall not blindly support him just because he plays for the Bucs.

  14. Newbucsfan!!! Says:

This kinsman girl got some bad advice from her lawyer who went for the money grab. The girl probably didn’t want to go through with it but was manipulated by some around her. Like how police and lawyers or family members can convince a child that something took place that really didn’t but the child wants to make them happy. This girls name is mud but she’ll recover because color and sympathy but she will be a plague to most who would rather not hang around her to avoid any turmoil for awhile. So her job prospects and how high she can go will be limited as well as what schools she can attend for the next few years.

Jameis will forever be linked to this garbage and at this point could not even give her hush money because that would confirm his guilt in public opinion. So if E. Kinsman mentions his name at all he would be forced to sue her for defamation of character. He would have to do the same for news outlets that do the same thing. But unlike her he won’t recover from this and must watch his proverbial back always.

  15. bucsfan4lyf Says:

    @Mr. Patrick

YES!!!! I couldn’t have said it better myself. Winston is a bust waiting to happen

    #MariotaorBUST

  16. JoeJoes Fungi Nails Says:

Wherever Jameis plays next year it will be tough for him…tougher than anything he has experienced playing football….all he has known is easy success. We have seen him arguing with Fisher when he felt he knew better than the HC. I can easily imagine Jameis placing blame everywhere but upon himself when the going get tough

  17. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @St. Pete
Very well said and 100% true.
These people care more about Winston because of his school or race than they do about the Bucs
I don’t care if Winston is white, black, green or purple or if he went to Bumfuc U, he’s way too much of a risk and a gamble to use the #1 pick on and then just hope for the best
And I’m not as concerned about what may happen between now and the draft as we know he is being highly babysat, as I am about after he signs his pro deal

  18. Newbucsfan!!! Says:

Jameis has to be careful about who he marries because should he be in the paper for domestic abuse even if he called 911 he would be guilty so his prenuptial agreement must be iron clad. I’m disturbed by Jameis and Erica but more so by the lawyer’s and adults around the young lady. Because they have tarnished and stained these two kids for life in this sue happy country. This movie won’t just hurt Jameis but her(Erica) as well but hey at least both will get paid either way. Way to go scum bags, THE REAL SCUM BAGS not the children in this.

  19. Phillip Says:

By the way everyone on here getting into arguments on who the Bucs should draft like it will change who the Bucs will ACTUALLY draft it’s silly.

You all are most likely NOT going to change each other’s opinions but continuously try to do it anyway.

MGM crowd – No matter how many times you can tell them statistics and eyeball tests they are still gonna believe in the kid and good for them to do so!

Jameis crowd/FSU blinders – No matter what facts are or aren’t there for anything he does they are still gonna back him.

Jameis Haters (most are probably Gator fans) – No matter if the evidence proved he was innocent or not in the rape allegation they are always going to believe he did it and think the other stuff he has done is terrible stuff.

Mariota crowd – Think he could be Aaron Rodgers for some reason? I think he can be almost as good as Russel Wilson personally maybe not the arm strength though

Trade down crowd – Always believing you can find that Tom Brady in the 6th round or Tony Romo that goes undrafted. Or hey there is always next year.

I’m personally not a fan of Winston and it has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the rape stuff or that he went to FSU… I personally don’t care for him as I feel he is fake and has a potential of a poor mans version of Big Ben. Everyone KNOWS I’m no Glennon fan either but if we don’t draft a QB I’ll be rooting for the kid as I’m tired of losing. I’m a big fan of Mariota I just have no faith in the Bucs organization to stick with the kid or surround him with quality coaches and keep them coaches long enough to have him develop.

  20. JFF Says:

Who’s gonna call their QB a bad teammate when they’re winning games? We don’t know if Jameis is or isn’t a bad teammate but that stuff tends to get aired out when crap hits the fan. Your boy JFF was loved by his teammates at Texas A&M but now that he’s losing in the NFL he’s treated like the huge joke that he is.

Winston would receive similar treatment from a lot of Bucs players if he chucked up INTs consistently like he does in college.

  21. The Buc Realist Says:

Does shipping large boxes of HGH to you own home with the name Rodney Harrison makes you think of character?

  22. Stpetebucsfan Says:

    @Newbucsfan

Were you there that night? How do you know all of this for sure. Jameis wasn’t cleared of anything, he wasn’t found innocent, the finding was not enough evidence to prosecute which makes him innocent because of “presumed” innocence until proven guilty. Not the same as being proven innocent.

But the bottom line is ALL of you need to give this up!!! Jameis guilt or innocence is no longer the question. Rightly or wrongly he has been involved in activity that many folks simply do not appreciate. Actually I’m not so upset with him for moral reasons as stupidity reasons. AGAIN…you simply do not go out in public and scream f her in the p while you, and since you’re the face of the FSU franchise, the entire school and team are under a cloud of suspicion.

Giving him the benefit of the doubt on the “consensual” sex to which he has admitted, screaming that in public while under investigation is truly moronic

And don’t believe for a moment that Jameis was not being babysat at FSU. Follow the $$$$ FSU and ALL big time college football programs are professional teams in reality with all the trimmings. Advisors, babysitters and coaches who make more than anybody else in the University including the freaking President.

Coach Jimbo Fisher will earn an average of $4.07 million a season if he remains at Florida State for the duration of his recently signed extension, according to a copy of the contract released Sunday.

FSU trustees chairman Jim Smith confirmed Monday that Eric Barron has signed a contract that includes a base salary of $395,000 a year in state and private dollars — plus the chance to earn annual bonuses of $100,000 for every $100 million in private donations raised. He’ll also get free housing and a car, Smith said, as well as a retention bonus of $200,000 after a few years.

This is not a slam at FSU. This exists at virtually EVERY big time college football program. The point is that for 4 MILLION people will guard their investment.

Jameis was not like any ordinary FSU student. He was worth millions to his coach, his school and many others. Do we really believe he did all of this because he wasn’t getting good advice?

  23. Newbucsfan!!! Says:

All i’ll say is this: most want to call Winston a soon to be bust when this guy has been a stud at every level so far. And even when he didn’t play his best ball he was still the best player in college football. Even if the Mariota crowd want to say he wasn’t you can’t argue the fact that this guy is the real deal with awesome talent around him and mediocre talent around him. Those are not blinders!

  24. Barry Says:

Remember when Winston was suspended from a game and still dressed out and the coach called him a dumb ass and sent him back to the locker room? #FaceOfTheFranchise #StayAway

  25. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @St Pete.
Yep, so much more to college football than what you see on the field. That’s why so many players graduate but still can’t hardly speak properly, read, write or do basic math

  26. Bill Says:

Patrick, I do care more about Winston because of his school. Would you expect any FSU fan not to? Is that a bad thing? It is if it clouds a persons judgement. But lets not pretend that college fans supporting their college players as pros is some kind of dirty secret, they should and usually do.

I think the fact that Winston is widely considered the best available QB and the Bucs need a QB is the primary issue here, or does that make too much sense for you to handle?

  27. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ New Buc
At no time was Winston EVER the best player in college football. Period

  28. Bill Says:

    @StPete,

It’s usually impossible to “prove” innocence, that’s why the system is setup to prove guilt.

  29. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ Bill
Thank You sooo much for making my point for me.
And, the Bucs do need a QB, not a risky turd

  33. BucFan20 Says:

There is a key word here and it is Stability. Just like everyone wants to use it for a Head Coach it must be used for the QB and it HAS NOT! How does anyone expect anything to work when you keep changing them? The timing is off,the plays are off. Nobody is on the same page. So far evey fan on these pages has at one point and I mean everyone myself included blamed: coaching, oline, running backs, recievers You name it on the offense. But you keep changing the qb every season or few weeks and you will fail most of the time. Now most people want to do it again. Lovie did not give up on Glennon. He saved him for this year . He will not draft a rookie and start him day one.

  34. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

“He’s got this infectious personality,” Dilfer said. “A lot of people use the term leadership, but I like guys who are comfortable in their own skin. That’s Jameis. He came in a little unprepared, and he admitted it. But he’s got a real presence to him. I’ve been real proud of him.”

  35. Bill Says:

    They are not mutually exclusive.

If your point was that some people are fans of the Seminoles and Bucs, then I’m happy to have sorted that out for you. If you think college bias is stronger than the Bucs need for a QB, you can think that.

But we need a QB, and that is why many Bucs fans want Winston.

“It is not JOENOLESFAN” —- You better let Joe know

  36. The only Buc fan in Montana Says:

I think Joe has given his Manziel alter/shrine a makeover to show his Love for his new flame Winston. Give it a rest Joe… like last year it’s not going to be Winston.

  44. Bill Says:

    Supersam,

That’s my biggest concern about him. He will lose games, it’s the NFL. His personality reminds me a lot of Cam Newton who also had an issue with losing a couple years back. It’s something he will have to learn to adapt to, as most players do.

  45. BUCSLEGENDS Says:

    BucFan20, NICE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  46. Stpetebucsfan Says:

    @Mike

We’ve questioned the ability of Dan Marino, Terry Bradshaw and plenty of white QB’s intellectually.

This was never about race and I went to great lengths in a post to point that out.

It’s about you Jameis lovers looking for any and everything to exonerate a chucklehead who clearly has ISSUES!!! Not because he’s black but for a variety of other reasons upon which I can only speculate. Being FAMOUS is a genuine challenge for any young man. Can you say Justin Bieber? I do not compare Jameis to Justin Bieber because he hasn’t yet reached that level of idiocy. But he does have a good start.

You do nobody favors when you hurl racist charges so freely. In the 3rd grade I grew up on the poor side of town. I was on white trash side of the street…across the street my best friend Narvel. My father’s friends chastised him saying how can you let little SPBF bring an N into the home. My father told them we were shanty Irish and that the Lace Curtain Irish did that to us and we wouldn’t play that card.

Fast forward to 1967 and Army basic training at Fort Polk. 200 guys in my company…about 75 Alabama National Guardsmen…meaning they had gamed the system and had gotten out of going to Vietnam. About 75 draftees and 590 of us who actually joined voluntarily. Of the 75 draftees 50 were black and only 25 white. I and another guy became best friends with one of the black dudes and the Alabama crackers went nucking futs. It literally came down to a fight at the end of the 8 weeks training between me and one of the crackers

Trust me I have seen racism up close and personally. There are clearly a very, very tiny minority…1-3 on this board who have posted any racist sentiments about Jameis. The VAST MAJORITY of the “racist a$$holes” you so glibly identify are simply not sold on Jameis for a variety of reason including his knuckleheaded behavior off the field

last I checked Rodney Harrison was an A-hole too, I keep forgetting he is even on tv

  52. BrianDorry55 Says:

In regards to the very first comment….why is there this logic out there that you can wait a year to find a quarterback and then just “trade down for Hackenberg”….you can’t just do that whenever you want to. If there are quarterback needy teams at the top of the draft, and elite prospects to be had at the position, you’re not getting up there…simple as that. This is a rare opportunity to get a player who has elite ability….ELITE….not Bradford….not Stafford…not Alex Smith….we’re talking Andrew Luck-esque can’t miss talent. You take the guy and don’t look back…it’s really an easy call.

  58. Skyline Crew Says:

Very much so it is. I can point to stats all day long, but in the end they are only a small piece of the puzzle. Winston, EJ, and Ponder had similar stats as well. Should I judge Winston based off that?

  59. Bill Says:

We also saw how he acted when getting beat by Auburn, NC State, ND, Louisville, Miami, Florida, and GT.

“Very much so it is. I can point to stats all day long, but in the end they are only a small piece of the puzzle. Winston, EJ, and Ponder had similar stats as well. Should I judge Winston based off that?”

You mean EJ throwing for 6,000 yards is comparable to Winstons 8,000? Seems like a notable difference to me, but if you want to make that argument I will listen.

  61. Bucworld Says:

It’s amazing to me how some of you judge people like
you are perfect. Roethlisberger was accused of rape and was vindicated. Is he still a rapist? This holier than thou attitude from the fan base has been the reason why we never get any talent in Tampa. Accept for when we took a chance on Sapp. We have a roster full of so called go guys now. How is that working out? I’m not saying that we need trouble makers on the team but you guys should dig a little deeper into folks before you judge them off of a media that feeds only negative information to the masses on guys like Winston. I don’t know why Jamarcus Russell comes up when talking about Winston. Winston is actually passionate about the game and Russell is not. Has he gotten into trouble? yes. That doesn’t mean that a guy can’t learn from the past and move on and change. But of course you guys have your mind made up about a guy that you do not know. Who says that Mariota can’t be a bust. I can’t remember one bust that went number one that everyone could predict that he would be a bust.

  62. Skyline Crew Says:

Geno’s stats aren’t comparable to Mariota’s either. You just wanna compare Passing? That is fine, but Geno never came close to a QBR of Mariota and threw more passes for less yards. Like I said, comparing stats to bums in the NFL doesn’t work.

  63. Robert 9 Says:

yes, rapelesburger is still a rapist. clear enough?

  64. Ernest T. Bass Says:

Winstonites are living under a rock and didn’t see what went on in the NFL. Multiple suspensions for off field incidents. Teams are staying away red flags in the draft.

Winston and Dorial Green Beckham have major red flags! The choice is Leonard Williams or Mariota at #1.

  65. Couch Fan Says:

Winston, EJ, and Ponder had similar stats as well. Should I judge Winston based off that?

Did those other 2 get anywhere near the National Championship? As far as I remember they led the Noles to Mediocrity. Then comes Jameis and they are National Champs. But let’s just leave that part out so your version sounds better.

Lol Winston isn’t use to losing so we can’t take a chance on a guy that isnt use to losing?

Well, I guess that settles that. We need to draft a loser! Some things people say are just ridiculous. I can admit I am bias with Winston but at least I live in Reality Lol.

I rather have a guy that isn’t use to Losing. I want a guy that gets pissed off when he is losing. Yell at the coach, yell at the players. Show some fire. Can’t believe you are making a big deal about yelling in the heat of the moment. I guess all the players should sid side by side on the bench and hold hands during the whole game to never speak a word like good little sheep… or Yes man that Schiano wanted.

  67. Couch Fan Says:

    sit side by side*

  68. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

Brady yells all the damn time.

  69. Supersam Says:

@CouchFan You chose to spin my words into a different context, Losing is apart of the NFL and ALL rookie quarterbacks go through ups and downs, all I was saying is how is he gonna respond. Logical question for a man who’s only lost 1 college game in his career. Let’s be real here the Bucs are gonna go threw some growing pains early on. Don’t kid yourself like Winston is gonna go Undefeated or something.

  70. trox Says:

I guess it’s easy to forget Manning supposedly put his scrotum on a female’s head at UT. The Colts still drafted him and the rest is history. In fact, he reached a financial settlement with the accuser. This character question is so over blown. Draft the Qb who gives the team the best chance to win on the field.

I shouldn’t even have to bring up Big Ben.

  71. Bucworld Says:

Rapistberger? Labeled for life I guess. If all of your mishaps were made public what would your label be? Was that clear? I get it you don’t like Winston, but that does not mean that he will not go on and become great NFL player. Mariota is not worth a number one pick. If we ran Chip Kelly’s system then maybe. I don’t think we should come to a conclusion without doing research and completing the NFL draft interview. If it doesn’t work out then move on and trade back with the Eagles. It just seems like every year we talk our selves out of acquiring great players or unjustly firing coaches to only then start the process over again. But I guess you guys are good with that as long as the players are label “good guy” and the coach is in his first month.

  72. Skyline Crew Says:

Hahaha National Championship. If we based our QBs off of national championships we would never have a good QB. How dis Bama’s QBs do in the NFL. I’ll do better…when was the last time a national champion QB did great in the NFL?

  73. Mr. Patrick Says:

Winston won a championship while Manuel and Ponder did not because he had a much better team around him. FSU only played one good team this year and that was Oregon and they got pounded by the Ducks and Mariota

  74. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Glennon will be traded to pave the way for the new # 8…..

    @87

JBF readers will know how to spot you at the Bucs home opener after Mariota is the pick…..you’ll be the one in the #5 straightjacket!!!

  75. Mr. Patrick Says:

If FSU played in the SEC they would be 7-4 this year at best and we wouldn’t be talking about Winston at all

  76. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    87

When they “Baker Act” you…..it doesn’t mean they will take you to the game…..

  77. Lord Cornelius Says:

lol more insane logic in this debate..

We’ve got this Philip guy saying we shouldn’t take a QB because if we miss on the pick we can just make up for it in Free Agency. Wtf are you talking about lol? If we pick any position #1 and they are worthless we have set the franchise back in the same financial capacity as any other position. It’s not like if the Jags drafted some other bust at another position instead of Gabbert at QB they’d be better off. If the dude sucks the team moves on quick. People are losing their minds here.

Then you’ve got Mr. Patrick – bashing Winston as usual with the same rhetoric as if he watched the dude himself rape some girl while wearing a devil costume or something. Your insight to his character is worthless. Comparing him to EJ Maneul or Ponder is insane if you actually watched all those QBs in college. They aren’t in the same conversation.

Then there’s random racist accusations for not liking Winston. There are people like St Pete who seem objective and do not want Winston. 87 is consistent in his praise without bashing Mariota which is nice.

Just let the FO do their work. None of us will have as good as insight as them into his character; so debating what kind of person Winston is; when no one knows him; is rediculous. To make comparisons to other players who have completely separate types of issues / history; is worthless.

  78. lurker Says:

mr patrick talking outta his arse again. just waitin for his son meth mike to chime in.

  79. lurker Says:

if oregon played in the sec they would be 0-11. mariotta played an easy schedule and still lost. he will not be the first pick because he is softer than manziel. mariotta is still hurt from a little tackle in the championship game. he will not survive in the nfl, then.

if you guys hated manziel last year because of his style of play, then you cannot like mariotta because of said style. manziel is more accurate and has a better arm than mariotta.

  80. lurker Says:

wow, it is so easy to just make up stuff.

  81. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ Lurker
Unlike you, I can talk out of mine because my head isn’t up it

  82. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ Lurker
I guess you’ll find something racist out of all of that because that’s all you’ve got as usual

  83. jimmy53 Says:

no one worth their salt is picking Mariota over Winston—no one. 90%+ have been going on record saying Winston is by far superior. The Godfather Gil Brandt is on record—that’s a legit evaluation. Not Harrison talking out his…

Winston was a leadrer on the Seminole sideline as a true freshman, and that continued for three years…

  84. lurker Says:

    it sure seems to be

you just hate winston and make these idiotic reasonings that take away any credibility you try to have.

ps do you still support the racist inference that a person made in their comments? i’m not surprised. funny how he got called on it, then disappeared, despite the good ole boys club supporting him.

  85. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Lurker

Mariota ran the ball over 330 times for more than 2200 yds….I am quite sure he didn’t slide on all of them….perhaps he is a bit tougher than you think….and, I don’t believe he missed a game in college.

Take another look at that hit…..LB drove his shoulder into the ground…still came back into game…..

Using your analysis…..most every NFL QB should just pack it in…..

  86. lurker Says:

    @tbbf

just using mr. patrick’s reasonings. sorry, i shoulda been more clear.

i do think the injury is a concern and that the hit wasn’t that bad. i have seen quite a few oregon games and that was the biggest hit i recall him taking. the nfl has bigger, faster players. manziel never got hurt, but people here still stated he is too fragile.

  87. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

    lol@meth mike.

    Maybe that’s it. The meth?

  88. lurker Says:

ps some people think the nfl should pack it in because of traumatic brain injuries.

  89. lurker Says:

    holy heck, that’s it (lightbulb)

traumatic brain injury… (tbi)mr. patrick. that explains a lot of his “reasonings” and silly comments.

  90. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

“manziel is more accurate and has a better arm than mariotta.”
    ************

That’s funny right there. I don’t care who you are. Can definitely tell you have never seen Mariota play.

  91. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ Lurker
Of everybody on here, you are probably the person that makes the most things up because of lacking an intellegent response. You want to be seen but have nothing intellegent to say, so you just make things up with no validation or get frustrated and just post an immature snide remark.I mean it’s okay because it’s kind of funny and keeps me entertained. I’ve got three letter for you – G.E.D

  92. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

    Jimmy53

Winston took a redshirt his true freshman season sitting behind Manuel. Please tell me how he was the leader then.

  93. lurker Says:

“You want to be seen but have nothing intellegent to say, so you just make things up with no validation…”

that sounds like you tbi patrick.

  94. lurker Says:

i have seen plenty of mariotta, probably more than most. you think he is more accurate than winston?…smh. i think he is the same style player as manziel. where are all the manziel haters on mariotta? manziel was not hurt…mariotta is.

  95. StPeteBucsFan Says:

“Roethlisberger was accused of rape and was vindicated.”

Uh don’t know where you come from but where I grew up paying hush money and giving it under the condition of privacy is hardly vindication.

    @Lord Cornelius.

While i have fun debating the fans here..hopefully all in good fun…and i certainly have an opinion on what I would do if I was in charge, my position is actually exactly the same as yours.

Just let the FO do their work. None of us will have as good as insight as them into his character; so debating what kind of person Winston is; when no one knows him; is rediculous. To make comparisons to other players who have completely separate types of issues / history; is worthless.

Exactly LC. I believe TBBF and others feel this way as well.

  96. Dr J Says:

    Winston = BUST.

    end of story.

  97. Dr J Says:

Agree with Lurker, he did not look good at all in the final tital game.

    and it’s recent, too. 1/28/15

  99. lurker Says:

    from above

“If you want someone to just come in and play Day One, in an NFL system and come into your offense, I think it’s Jameis Winston.”

    hmmmmmmmmm sound like 87.

    is this familiar, too?

“I like Jameis Winston over Marcus Mariota from what I’ve studied on tape. You’re looking at someone who operated pretty much an NFL system, you’re looking at someone who can make all the NFL throws, can make those tight window throws, you see him move around within the pocket and do things you have to do at the next level,” Jeremiah said on NFL Network Wednesday from the Super Bowl media center in Phoenix. “I actually think Jameis Winston is more like Ben Roethlisberger than Blake Bortles was. I’m high on him on the field. Off the field, you have a lot of stuff to sort through and teams have time to do that.”

    @St.Pete Bucs Fan:
Thank you so much for your post re: the difference in the number of “NFL-caliber” players that play for the powerhouse programs, compared to some of the “also-rans”. While even the lesser football programs produce some stars at the NFL level, some of these players benefit greatly by being surrounded throughout their college career by potential NFL draft picks at multiple positions.
This is the main reason that I don’t like watching college football, because it seems there are so many games that are total mismatches with scores like 62-10! It is frequently also the reason that so many college stars and “can’t miss” prospects fail miserably at the next level, where the talent level matched their own. Even for national champions, and Heisman trophy winners.

On a personal level, when I first got accepted to medical school, I was totally freaked out that my lab partner was a PhD in Biochemistry, and that so many of my classmates were valedictorians of their high school, or even college classes. I quickly found out that I was in the “big leagues” for competition too.

And that is why I have been an MG8 supporter. He has performed admirably AT THE NFL LEVEL, and with MORE TDs, and FEWER INTs, than most of the very best QBs of the last several years, AFTER THE SAME 19 GAMES IN THEIR NFL CAREER.

    tickrdr
Bashfully admits, he is still a charter member of the MGM

  103. lurker Says:

do you even read the articles you link to patrick? or do you just hunt for the best titles.

“…but there is little doubt which defensive lineman stands out most to NFL scouts leading up to the NFL Scouting Combine.”

that is what the title was referencing.

“USC’s Leonard Williams is in a group of six or seven players who could be the No. 1 pick, NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah said, and has every physical tool NFL clubs would look for.”

then he touches on the top 2 qb’s and top rb:
“Jeremiah also commented on the Mariota-Winston debate, and the depth of the running back position for the 2015 draft.”

    so, ummmmmm, yeah

  104. Mr. Patrick Says:

Yep, I read everything. And I have a couple of new ones about Winston that I will be posting over the next couple of days for all to see. I know that you and 87 will really enjoy them

NOT if you have never had a franchise QB in over a quarter of a century.

Yes I said franchise QB and 2 of them are there. Yes I said 2.

  106. lurker Says:

so the title was referencing the d-linemen, not with qb’s. again, you are trying to mislead; and if anyone reads the article they will come to the same conclusion as i.

  108. Bill Says:

    @Skyline

“Geno’s stats aren’t comparable to Mariota’s either. You just wanna compare Passing? That is fine, but Geno never came close to a QBR of Mariota and threw more passes for less yards. Like I said, comparing stats to bums in the NFL doesn’t work.”

I’ll break it down for you:

    Geno Smith
    4205 yards
    71.2 %
    8.12 YPA
    42 TD’s
    6 INT’s
    163.9 Rating

    Marcus Mariotta
    4454 yards
    68.3 %
    10.0 YPA
    42 TD’s
    4 INT’s
    181.7 Rating

Those stats are very comparable. Mariottas are better, I think he is better, but by how much? For fun, lets go ahead and throw RG3 into this as well:

    RG3
    4293 Yards
    72.4 %
    10.68 YPA
    37 TD’s
    6 INT’s
    189.5 Rating

Also, a very similar stat line with a scouting report almost identical to that of Mariotta:

“The two things that set RG3 and Luck apart are concerns about RG3’s durability and how long it will take for him to transition to more of a pro-style offense. While there are concerns about the pro-style offense, he’s done it enough in college that you know he’ll be successful in the NFL.” — ESPN

This line has been sold time and time again about QB’s who have performed as well as Mariotta. He hasn’t done it, but we’re sure he can…

  109. 1976Buc Says:

There are few college players that have not put themselves in the same position Winston has. Takes a female home after a bar closes and she cries rape. True or not it could have happened to almost every one of us that chose to not save our virginity for our wedding night. As for the crab legs, that Publix has given free crab legs to many players and eventually one might just assume these are free also. Right or wrong! One thing I agree on is that Winston has to stop putting himself in any situation that could be twisted.

“Because one bad pick can set your franchise back years.”

Joe understands everything Harrison said, but let’s remember, if you draft — pick any position — at No. 1 and swing and miss, it will set your franchise back.

Which is why many of us want to go all Bobby Beathard and trade down for more picks!
    ——————————-

Which side of your face are you talking out of here? You know, Bobby Beathard was the man that DRAFTED Ryan Leaf.

Also, you’re upset with the face of the franchise screaming, “Eff her in the P”? So the rape that, yes he was proven innocent because there wasn’t enough evidence to prosecute meaning if they had tried him he would have definitely been found NOT GUILTY, he allegedly committed doesn’t bother you, but words do? WORDS? Who the EFF cares? Far worse things are said than that on the field, off the field, whatever…it isn’t illegal…it’s not funny…but they’re words… Winston’s poor attempt at humor didn’t amuse you… great, now we know he won’t try to fall back on a career in comedy if the QB thing doesn’t work out. Other than self-righteous Tebow fans, who cares?

  111. Brandon Says:

    Bill,

You’re comparing Mariota to a bunch of spread QBs that careers are going down in flames. Thanks for proving the point. QB Winston, DE Gregory, DE L. Williams, or trade down…. Mariota IS Colin Kaepernick, he WILL struggle in the pros… the spread is dead in the NFL folks. Nobody runs the spread successfully in the NFL these days… they’ve figured it out.
