“That’s Just Not Part Of My Equation”
December 24th, 2014Mathematics don’t seem to be Lovie Smith’s strong suit.
It seems Lovie can’t see the critical math facing the Bucs: one is much greater than two.
Lovie told New Orleans media today that all the chatter and consideration about the Bucs possibly trying to lose in order to secure the No. 1 overall pick is foreign to him.
“That’s just not part of my equation,” Lovie said.
The head coach says he knows no other way to Coach other than to try and win, and Lovie characterized the Bucs’ first-team-versus-first-team work in practice yesterday “as competitive as you would see.”
Lovie doesn’t seem to understand the concept that a team would do everything within reason to lose — for the greater good.
“I know a lot of people are talking about that,” Lovie said. “I don’t quite get that part. We’ll end up with a good pick.”
Joe will repeat: No. 1 overall is much better than No. 2. Quarterback-starved Bucs fans can’t assume both Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota will emerge healthy from their Bowl/National Championship game.

Equation….
Lovie =’s Losing
December 24th, 2014 at 3:41 pm
I wouldn’t lose much sleep over it Joe, the Bucs have been (allegedly) playing to win for 15 weeks now and have only succeeded at it twice. The smart money is on continued ineptitude out of the Bucs leading to 2-14 and a lock on #1
December 24th, 2014 at 3:44 pm
Kudos to Joe for attempting to stir up a bees nest of activity with comical comments suggesting either Mariota or Winston might get a serious injury when that’s about as likely as the Bucs winning on Sunday.
December 24th, 2014 at 3:47 pm
1st pick or 2nd pick
I and freak’n terrified of Lovies ability
player career Killer
December 24th, 2014 at 3:48 pm
Talk about antiquated. Lovie just doesn’t get it. I bet he still has a lan line in his kitchen w a 20ft cord, a vcr and a blockbuster membership.
“Back in my day we didn’t lose games on purpose just to get the #1 pick. We lost games bc we weren’t a very good fb team. The way it should be. You young whipper snappers w your fantasy football and this john madden Atari game and this tweeter thing you guys don’t know fb. Real fan see were on the verge of going 2-14 bc we’re not very good. Simple as that.”
Either you’re with me or you’re against me. That philosophy works really well, truly it does.
December 24th, 2014 at 3:51 pm
Coaches don’t confess to wanting to lose on purpose, are you kidding?
December 24th, 2014 at 3:53 pm
Dammit, Lovie! Are you out of your vulcan mind?! Without that pick
this team could die! I’m a fan, not a miracle worker!
December 24th, 2014 at 4:03 pm
Samcro
All he’s got to say the same thing he said last week we’re bringing in some rotational guys to see and to give him some reps.
December 24th, 2014 at 4:11 pm
In Lovie we bust!
December 24th, 2014 at 4:12 pm
Lovie’s reminds me of Obama, what they say does not match up with what they do.
December 24th, 2014 at 4:19 pm
That’s been the problem all year, We’ve only looked good in practice!
December 24th, 2014 at 4:23 pm
Nurse Ratchet lovie is talking again…
December 24th, 2014 at 4:25 pm
@ 4:15 Sunday…Lovie will have had 20 games including preseason to get this team together…Lovie coaching a 2015 NFL football team is like an armless man trying to push a rope acroos a room with his chin

@Joe,
Don’t you think Winning the game and getting the number 2 guy is better than drafting the #1 guy.
#1 guy is Mariota
#2 guy is Jameis
You can’t take Jameis over Mariota because of the “off-field concerns.”
I think you have this all wrong Joe. Go back to rooting for the bucs. Lets get the #2 guy because we all know he’s going to be the better QB. Let’s not draft Mariota and set ourselves up for failure because of public opinion…
Go Bucs!
December 24th, 2014 at 4:48 pm
most of the people that post comments on this site seem to feel that lovie smith stinks as a coach. I feel the same way. who are all these people that vote on joe’s survey saying they are confident in lovie smith? I don’t get it.
December 24th, 2014 at 4:54 pm
Please, oh please, draft Marcus. Jameis is great on the field but it is the off-the-field risk that concerns me.
December 24th, 2014 at 4:54 pm
Losing’s just not in his DNA.
December 24th, 2014 at 5:07 pm
Lovie’s comments make as much sense as his free agency choices.
December 24th, 2014 at 5:48 pm
If he came out and admitted he was throwing a game, the league would swoop in and take AWAY draft picks. There would be immediate action.
December 24th, 2014 at 5:52 pm
And with the 5th over all pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, The Tampa Bay Buccaneers select, Brandon Scherff, OG out of the University of Iowa
December 24th, 2014 at 5:52 pm
Or Andrus Peat either way
December 24th, 2014 at 5:55 pm
Well… We know he can’t count to 11….
Joe… You may have something with your theory.
December 24th, 2014 at 5:56 pm
The head coach says he knows no other way to Coach other than to try and win….
coulda fooled me
December 24th, 2014 at 6:13 pm
Did you expect him to say he’d lose purposely?
December 24th, 2014 at 6:57 pm
He has to say this. Otherwise it would be a national story about a coach tanking.
December 24th, 2014 at 7:48 pm
When, in the history of the NFL, has any coach declared publicly a desire to lose for a draft pick? No story here.
December 24th, 2014 at 8:52 pm
Do or do not. There is no try.
December 24th, 2014 at 9:07 pm
Do or do not. There is no try!
