Jameis Watch: Bucs Will Pass?
December 17th, 2014Crab-legs-stealing, BB-gun-shooting, obscenity-hollering, Heisman-Trophy-winning, national champion James Winston, the pride of Florida State University, continues to look like a much better quarterback prospect than Mike Glennon and Josh McCown.
It’s Joe’s daily nugget on the Jameis Watch, celebrating the best quarterback to wear No. 5 ever in the state of Florida.
Joe knows many Bucs fans (not Joe) go absolutely gaga for all things BSPN. Oh, my goodness, these Bucs fans lives are ruined when Tampa Bay teams are on SportsCenter being loved by BSPN talking heads.
For that crowd, tonight’s Jameis Watch is for you.
BSPN draft guru Todd McShay has issued his first mock draft of the 2015 season, and McShay dives into Marcus Mariota, Jameis Winston and the Bucs.

Yeah because love is going after cutler!!! Ha ha

Not a chance
December 17th, 2014 at 8:58 pm
I hope not but he did bring him to Chicago. Just sayin
December 17th, 2014 at 9:02 pm
We’ve seen the price other organizations will pay for their pick when trading up. Im torn between trading down or using it on JW. Theres still the combine and blah, blah stuff that will play out. But Im still thinking O line.
We need to infuse some young strong talent into this O line to protect whoever we want at QB. Theres no ifs, ands, or buts, or woulda shoulda coulda, room left! When the hell are we going to address this disaster of an O line? And FU Lovie for being ok with EDS!
December 17th, 2014 at 9:04 pm
Hope we do pass on him
December 17th, 2014 at 9:14 pm
It’s too bad that Jamieus has to be a wild card, but I think Mariotta is the right move. They will do a lot of interviewing and investigating before the draft so maybe they will find that Winston is not as awful as he seems. Sealing our number one pick will make this game on Jan. 1st so incredibly interesting to watch. Merry Christmas Bucs fans!
December 17th, 2014 at 9:31 pm
The Jan 1 game should be interesting despite our pick.
December 17th, 2014 at 9:42 pm
I understand that Jameis will not stay for another year. One poster earlier even implied that FSU has let Jameis know he’s not even welcome to come back.
OK FSU fans is that true? Are their whispers in Tallahassee that Jimbo wont’ miss the distraction.
IF FSU and Jameis are still tight this kid needs to come back for one more year.
First of all of course he needs to repair his image. If McShay himself concedes Jameis has the most talent and it’s off field why not clean that up. Not that McShay is the absolute expert but you know he’s simply regurgitating what he’s hearing from NFL front office types.
Stay in school Jameis! It may not be best for the Bucs but it would clearly be best for you. Clean up your act. Hire some great PR people to help make you the next coming of Mother Teresa. Flash that smile every chance you get and stay out of trouble.
And Jameis when you come back for that year continue working on your game. Maybe tighten up that slinging throwing motion and also make better decisions with the ball.
And Jameis Jimbo will have your surrounded by the best talent in the land.
Just the incoming freshman class…5 five star recruits already committed to go along with all that talent. Your freshman running back who ate up the Gators will be awesome next year.
Jameis has a chance to really make history. Imagine if he comes back and wins another Heisman! Another title? What if they win a second this year and he has a chance at a third. The millions can wait one more year Jameis and trust me the ROI will be huge IF you simply stay out of trouble for 12 months! Use that smile and athletic talent to make millions for yourself…and hey Jameis…while you’re at it…hook up with Warrick Dunn and learn about what is really important in life. Hint. It ain’t just the millions.

Joe you know lovie is getting cutler
December 17th, 2014 at 9:51 pm
Ditto Skyline Crew….I think that the bowl games play perfectly into our decision. If mariotta can pick through 2 NFL type D’s (FSU/Bama, assuming they edge OU) then it will show alot. If he struggles, then it will also show alot. FSU and BAMA aren’t consistently great on D this year, but they do have big physical D lines with athletic fast secondary’s with players at every position who will start in the NFL IMO. Not sure about OU on that front, but they also have alot of talent on D and a good pass rush. So a good test for both Qs anyway you look at it!
December 17th, 2014 at 9:56 pm
Disagree SP…if he can go 1 or 2, he should go now. Injury possibilities, etc.? No way, and it isn’t like if pro football doesn’t happen, he might choose to be a rocket scientist, doctor, etc.. This is his shot.
December 17th, 2014 at 9:57 pm
Jaimes Winston isnt that bad!!!!!! We all have seen worse!!!!!
December 17th, 2014 at 9:58 pm
And remember SP…those salaries are bracketed now, so unless you are talking TV contracts, ect.., there is absolutely no reason to play another year of college ball.
December 17th, 2014 at 10:03 pm
And SP…tjatis absolutely unbiased…my kid is going to UW Madison or University of Minnesota twin cities, I went to Illinois State, so I have no “dog” in the Florida University fight.

The emptier the wagon, the mpre noise it makes
December 17th, 2014 at 10:08 pm
We aren’t getting Cutler. Besides his ridiculous salary (he’s the highest paid player in the NFL), it wasn’t Lovie that brought him to Chicago. It was the GM.
December 17th, 2014 at 10:10 pm
Either QB will instantly make us better. I’m not saying either will be great, but even if they are bad they will still be much better than McClown. McClown is so bad he makes me miss Freeman.
December 17th, 2014 at 10:12 pm
Will some one explain to me why Mariotta,is better then Jameis on the football field.
December 17th, 2014 at 10:29 pm
Nobody knows which QB is better. It’s just a crap shoot. Player A or player B. The Bucs with Mariota seem like an unlikely fit to me. Winston with Titans sounds like a good fit. Trade down a few spots and reap the bonus.
December 17th, 2014 at 10:37 pm
@ Ed
Unfortunately, “on the field” talent isn’t the only part of the equation. If Winston weren’t such a swirling, flying a-hole, he would be the consensus #1.
December 17th, 2014 at 10:43 pm
will the bucs pass on jameis? yes lovie will pass. he thinks things are starting to turn around. he will probably cut mike glennon . he will pick up a new QB after the NFL draft that wasn’t drafted by any teams. then say he is the second coming of joe montana. 🙂
December 17th, 2014 at 10:48 pm
OT:
Maybe we can still get Manziel. There is a report from Fox Sports’ sideline reporter that some Cleveland players did not shake his hand during the pregame introductions.
tickrdr
December 17th, 2014 at 10:55 pm
Lovie better not go after Vandi-brat
December 17th, 2014 at 11:00 pm
“I hope not but he did bring him to Chicago. Just sayin”
I seem to remember Dominik trying to get Cutler to Tampa that year. Fact is, Culter had a pair of reasonably impressive 4000 yard seasons under his belt at that point and looked to be on the way up.
I bet the Bucs would have won more games over the last 5 years if they’d had Cutler rather than Freeman – although he’s become a bit of a disaster as of late.
December 17th, 2014 at 11:02 pm
Looking at Lovie’s history I don’t expect Bucs to draft a QB in the first round
December 17th, 2014 at 11:05 pm
@Mark
Yes you are correct there is always the chance of injury. That’s what LLoyds of London is for. Guys who come back simply buy insurance.
And while I agree Jameis is not in school for academic credit and will earn his money with his athletic skill not his brains, Jameis might actually be just as good a baseball prospect as he is an NFL prospect. One poster has even taken this whole avoid the draft farther than me. He thinks Jameis should avoid the NFL altogether and go to the MLB where the money is better and careers last a LOT longer.
As to your point about bracketed salaries you’re absolutely correct. And so yes I’m talking endorsement money. If some obnoxious, mediocre talent punk like Johnny Football can get all those commercials imagine this…Jameis with a scrubbed reputation…goes the hospital/boys club/poor neighborhood visiting route next year…and his smile.
Johnny Football looks like a little dweeb. Jameis is a physical specimen with a million dollar smile. Jameis will be a cash cow if he can play and IF he can clean up his image.
But your points are certainly valid Mark and so that’s why I began my post with the admission Jameis will never come back for another year. I just wish he would. I want to like this kid. I want to believe. But I have no basis yet.
December 17th, 2014 at 11:08 pm
Damned if you do damned if you don’t! To be honest it all depends on the OC and the players around him to show him the way. Marcus won’t need the babysitting that Winston will need! But Winston seems to be more NFL ready than Marcus! Although Marcus is coming from a Chip Kelly ran Offense? Intriguing anyway you look at it!
December 17th, 2014 at 11:28 pm
I am with the crowd that says Lovie’s hands will be tied by Team Glazer. Glennon is not Lovie’s hand-picked choice while McClown is, and McClown is not taking us anywhere. Lovie’s not playing of Glennon during this waste of a season is proof he doesn’t believe his own “quarterback of the future” nonsense. The time for a QB is now.
In the case of Mariota or Winston Lovie is going to have to swallow that pill. Only question is: Will it be the red pill or the blue pill?
December 17th, 2014 at 11:46 pm
I hope they either pass or don’t have a chance at him. If they do take him I will be waiting to laugh upon his first arrest.
December 17th, 2014 at 11:46 pm
OK read this thread and it’s GoBucs FTW with…
“Intriguing anyway you look at it!”
Yes isn’t it!!! We may suck but at least we have the consolation of the draft to debate.
@MWWP
“In the case of Mariota or Winston Lovie is going to have to swallow that pill. Only question is: Will it be the red pill or the blue pill?”
At least Lovie’s agent can smile. I think that’s his son isn’t it. When Lovie swallows that pill he’s assured of at least a three year run instead of two.
If he drafts a “franchise QB” and a Heisman at that, there will be a HUGE distraction. Are all of you ready for the media storm that will come with a #1 pick who is also a Heisman. And of course if it’s “Famous” the media glare will be just the much hotter….but NOT on Lovie…it’ll be on the franchise QB. If we lose Lovie simply says he needed that year to “groom” the savior.
December 17th, 2014 at 11:53 pm
“Looking at Lovie’s history I don’t expect Bucs to draft a QB in the first round”
Looking at Lovie’s history, I didn’t expect him to draft all offensive players last season. Don’t underestimate his desire to do something different, also the influence of ownership that’s been struggling to sell tickets and win games despite re-investing heavily in the team over the last three seasons.
December 17th, 2014 at 11:57 pm
Whatever we do, I’m not optimistic. The incompetence is entrenched.
December 18th, 2014 at 12:35 am
I really think we are getting cutler trading back to get more picks and offensive line man.. there already betting on this in vegas it makes me vomit a little…
December 18th, 2014 at 12:40 am
The whole Cutler thing is too synchronistic and perfect to ignore.
It might work. Lovie wants what Lovie wants.
Cutler might blossom in a Marcus Arroyo led offense.
Lol…
But seriously folks, it might work.
Get Cutler for around 5 mill spend the number one pick on O-line
or trade for multiple pics depending on whether BPA is O-line
or QB.
December 18th, 2014 at 12:54 am
Cutler cannot be had for “around $5 million”. He is owed about $18 million per season, guaranteed for the next two years, and is set to earn another $70 million over the next four. No one is taking that contract on, and it’s too much dead money for the Bears to absorb if they cut him. He’ll be in Chicago next year, playing for a new coaching staff. He’s damaged goods, and expensive as all hell. He’s not going to be a Buc.
December 18th, 2014 at 5:27 am
I just don’t trust lovie he wont pick mariota or Winston
December 18th, 2014 at 5:35 am
Call me crazy…..But I AM SERIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!! Try to trade both of our 2nd round picks to the Carolina Panthers fo rQB Derek Anderson! (After we’ve traded our #1 overall for someones 1st and 2nd) Hit on Scherff or Peat, then trash McClown and bring in Anderson!
After watching Anderson, Im sold! This is the kind of move that would make me start liking L&L.
December 18th, 2014 at 8:39 am
I’ve been a fan since the 70’s…if Cutler comes to Tampa, I would need to reconsider….He’s garbage and a team/coach killer…
December 18th, 2014 at 9:14 am
Wow I thought all of the Cutler posts were moronic (he has a huge contract with guaranteed money and he is being benched now, c’mon people)!!!!! However, all of those dumb posts pale in comparison to Madmax’ post. It dawns on me that you’re probably being sarcastic and funny right??? You don’t really think we should try to acquire two second round picks to trade them away for Derek Anderson do you. If you are not joking all I have to say is wow! I have a feeling the Bucs will not be trading away the number one pick and our own number 2 pick to acquire Derek Anderson. Think about what you are suggesting. That is the craziest post I have ever seen on this site and that is saying something! SMH!
December 18th, 2014 at 9:29 am
Madmax I apologize but now that I reread your post for the third time you absolutely have to be joking of course. There was a back up QB who impressed a lot of people last year as well. I believe that guy is someone you affectionately refer to as McClown. So if L&L repeat the same mistake they made last year and give away a kings ransom to do it that will make happy. I didn’t catch the sarcasm immediately but now I get it. Funny stuff man! You almost had me thinking you were serious!
December 18th, 2014 at 10:01 am
Cutler is being benched this Sunday in favor of Jimmy Clausen.
December 18th, 2014 at 10:21 am
Actually, I could see Lovie signing Jay Cutler (if he’s a free agent) because I fully expect McCown to give up the ghost and retire. If we draft Winston or Mariota, Cutler would be good enough as a backup or transitional QB.
I have to say, I am really struggling with which of these two guys I want. I think Winston is the better QB, but his off field issues scare me.
With Mariota, he is a good leader (apparently), well behaved and mobile, but he isn’t nearly as accurate. We’ve seen lots of QBs here who cannot fit the ball into tight places.
It seems I flip every day at this point. I really need to take the time to watch their games. Got them all for this season, just have not made the time yet.
December 18th, 2014 at 10:23 am
@MadMax
Wow. I really hope you are joking.
December 18th, 2014 at 11:01 am
Offensive line please
December 18th, 2014 at 11:02 am
Winston will be to Lovie
what
RG III is to Gruden
cats to dogs
oil to water
night to day
December 18th, 2014 at 11:39 am
There had better be no FA QB coming to the Bucs next year.
December 18th, 2014 at 6:54 pm
nope not joking….was deep into a bottle of vodka though, lol
