Danny Lansanah Was Naughty

Bucs coach Lovie Smith said OLB Danny Lansanah violated a team rule and was benched.

Lovie Smith said OLB Danny Lansanah violated a team rule and was benched.

A series or two into the game, in the area of the press box of the Den of Depression where Joe sits, a stir began among the pen and mic club.

Folks began looking around, murmuring. The whispers grew louder and pretty soon it was loud questioning.

“What happened to Danny Lansanah?”

It seems he was naughty. Bucs coach Lovie Smith wouldn’t go into it but added intrigue to the contention by many the Bucs tried to lose today in order to capture the Chase for Jameis.

Lansanah, Lovie said, violated the all important “team rules” and was benched until late in the game.

“Danny violated a team rule is what Danny did,” Lovie said.

    What rule”trying to win…..

Perhaps it’s time for the NFL to change the way the draft is held. Maybe the worst five teams all qualify for a drawing or something.

Bad conflict of interest for all the teams in this position. A franchise QB on the line IF you lose. That’s simply a bad situation that the NFL should address.

He was probably late or something. And I don’t know why you twits are complaining.

Come the draft you’ll be happy to have the first pick without trading up for it. And on WDAE Licht made it obvious they were going to take a QB with the first pick, even though he didn’t come out and say it. He also made it obvious that Winston is looking better to him at present.

Quit your whining and get with the program. The only way the Bucs would have EVER gotten a franchise QB is by picking #1. We’ve tried later picks, trades and free agents, and none have worked out. It’s time to break the QB Curse.

That said, if RGIII is released, I would sign him AND pick a QB with the first pick. The last QB we got that left Washington led us to a superbowl.

If he can turn things around, cool. If not, we’ll still have a QB. And if both do very well, we could trade one for a high round pick the following year.

And RGIII, if released, will come cheap.

    @lightningbuc LOL! That was great

You act it’s a garuntee that well draft a qb.

    LOL 🙂

It would be great if the fans knew what the Bucs had in mind about the draft at this point in time. Nobody has a clue.

  12. BucFan20 Says:

Of course they Licht want everyone to know that they are drafting a QB. Every team tells what they are going to do.

@Vegasbuccaneer: Where do you live? I’m in Henderson.

StPeteBucsFan makes a good point in that it was almost laughable how the Bucs really pulled out all the stops to go 2-14! If the game was a late start and the Titans had somehow won I would expect that we would have seen a different level of effort from Tampa; particularly in the 2nd half.

As far as a lottery to determine the top pick: well sounds good but where do you draw the cutoff: non playoff teams like in the NBA with it simply weighted to give teams like the Bucs and Titans a better chance than 7-9 St Louis or 8-8 Miami? And you can almost hear the accusations of a frozen envelope if some big market franchise team somehow gets the first overall (like the Giants or Jets this draft) instead of a small market team; just like the ’85 NBA draft where Stern somehow drew the Knicks envelope despite the long odds. But if a lottery were held, it would keep the tanking down quite a bit; the Bucs and Titans would have almost as much chance at the top pick at 4-12 as opposed to 2-14 and having the worst NFL record would then result in no guarantee but picking 4th at the worst if the top 3 picks are drawn via lottery… I would not be surprised if this issue is addressed someday by the NFL as the NBA did back in the ’80s….

  15. Bucamania Says:

Well when you have the top pick you can be a little more open about which prospects you like.

  16. P'cola Buc Says:

Don’t forget, prior to the draft folks put up a smoke screen about who they are really taking. Please Mr. Licht….we need a QB REAL BAD, no fancy foot work here, no tripping and falling on the floor. No trading OUR pick 20 slots down. Get the QB in place FINALLY and then we can ALL move on to the rest of the team. THIS IS OUR CHANCE….. DON’T BLOW IT!

That’s to throw off other teams from trading ahead of you. Why would the Bucs smoke screen? No one picks ahead of them. They control how the draft will shake out.

  18. mark2001 Says:

Joe..you did hear Winston say he wouldn’t be worried about throwing to a receiver that Sherman was covering? The next few months should be very interesting.

  19. mark2001 Says:

A tempest in a teapot….Jimmy Johnson said he would play all his younger players with an eye to evaluation towards the future. Nobody on the panel took issue with that…it is the obviously smart thing to do. What bothered me is that we didn’t do that almost to the point where we won (lost). And for what? One totally meaningless game. Does anyone remember the game we won in the year where Detroit drafted ahead of us and took CJ, and we drafted Gaines Adams? Wow guys…we lost so many close games…don’t you think there was some kind of “poetic justice” in getting the first draft pick?

  20. Hawk Says:

Even with the very first pick, Joe, you still ‘blow smoke’. When you let it be known who you are selecting, then those who aren’t interested in that player will ‘safely’ go to the team with the second pick, and offer the farm. *I* would rather they be concerned that I might take their guy, so they offer *ME* the farm. Then I can decide which path is right for my team. Since there is no clear-cut #1 pick, I say, let them be worried about who the Bucs ‘might’ take.

  21. P'cola Buc Says:

    Yes Joe,
As long as other teams are unsure of your number one pick, you may be choosing “their” player…..I believe this may cause them to sell a little more of their farm…..I’ll take either Mariota or Winston over any trade down. We need to finally have at least the potential of a franchise quarterback on board then we can be “free” to start completing the team.

  22. MadMax Says:

Its going to be Winston, Mariota, or Williams…..or trading down a little for a nice price. Im happy with any of it. But I would be stoked if we picked Williams or traded back a little.

Don’t you remember the Vikings playing the Browns with the prospect of the Bucs trading up to get Trent Richardson? The Browns could’ve sat back and Taken Richardson at the spot where they were, the Vikings wanted Kalil.

  24. McAlpinMike Says:

Yeah Joe, I told the wife that that was the strangest game I’d ever watched. I didn’t cheer or cuss. Just kinda sat there, figuring we’d win. I think the ‘Aints were trying to lose. Brees throwing into triple coverage instead of to a wide open reciever, running on 2nd and 10 more than once. We just wanted it more(less?)
