With The Second Pick In The 2015 NFL Draft …
November 10th, 2014Prepare yourself for Lovie Smith to tell media this afternoon that the Bucs remain in contention for the NFC South title, as Tampa Bay sits just three games back of division-leading New Orleans with seven games to play.
Then, after the spit-up clears from your throat, you can cheer yourself up with thoughts of the NFL Draft.
Right now, the Bucs, based on league tiebreakers, appear to be in position for the No. 2 overall pick, with the winless Raiders holding the cards at No. 1.
Hmm, do the Bucs need a quarterback, or are they content to fiddle around with two quarterbacks who are no better than Derek Anderson of the Panthers, let alone Matt Ryan, Cam Newton or Drew Brees. Damn, this feels a lot like 2013.
Of course, the Bucs could use an offensive lineman or two, perhaps a tight end who can catch consistently, along with a couple of dangerous edge rushers, cornerbacks, a middle linebacker good in pass coverage, and a return man.
Did Joe miss anything?
Lovie Smith and Jason Licht have an awful lot of work to do. Joe suspects total personnel consensus will be more elusive this offseason.

You missed safeties, better interior lineman besides GMC, a wide receiver with speed who can stretch the field, and naturally and most importantly, a competent NFL head coach and GM.
November 10th, 2014 at 9:51 am
Joe we would pick 3rd jacksoville is 2nd plus lovie has his future qb in glennon he said!
November 10th, 2014 at 9:54 am
They will likely trade off the picks for some aging veterans
November 10th, 2014 at 9:57 am
These defensive players looked a lot better before Lovie got here. Going from being ranked 15 in the league in defense to dead last is quite a fall. So if Lovie can’t coach defense than what good is he? I’ve never heard anyone say he knew anything about offense??
November 10th, 2014 at 9:59 am
If I’m the Glazers I force these clowns to draft a QB. Enough already.
November 10th, 2014 at 10:05 am
Eight years Buc Draft selections 1st 2 rounds.
2007 Adams, Sears, Piscitelli
2008 Talib, Jackson
2009 Freeman
2010 McCoy, Price, Benn
2011 Clayborn, Bowers
2012 Barron, Martin , David
2013 Revis, Banks
2014 Evans, ASJ
It’s not where you pick that counts….It’s who you pick!!!
We have only 2 player
November 10th, 2014 at 10:10 am
Our qb will be useless without a LT. Drafting one without addressing that need will doom him for failure. In recent years at least, tackles drafted high seem to be more of a sure thing than any other position. And who knows, maybe Jameis will drop to the 2nd round. Maybe we should start some more rumors about him. I heard he clubbed a seal at the zoo with a puppy he stole from a blind kid.
November 10th, 2014 at 10:15 am
Its A Bucs Life.
Need new Roster and Coach every year.
Lovie is not into it. He is an azz clown. Worst game day manager i have ever seen.
November 10th, 2014 at 10:29 am
If they draft the rapist from Free Seafood University, I’m honestly done with the team.
November 10th, 2014 at 10:31 am
Can we draft a new Owner? How about new MGT? How about new coaches? We need the following in no particular order:
QB
RB
OL
DL
FS
SS
CB
OLB
Speed Receiver
Punter
I think that covers everything….
November 10th, 2014 at 10:38 am
I’m with #41, if they draft crab leg thieving, point shaving, sexual harassing Jamarcus Russell 2.0 from FSU I’m all set with this team.
November 10th, 2014 at 10:43 am
I’m good with ASJ, it took 3 seasons for Julius Thomas to develop into the TE he is today..but absolutely, draft Mariota, do not look past him, big, strong arm, knows when to run and when to throw…
November 10th, 2014 at 10:53 am
Draft MARIOTA please.
November 10th, 2014 at 11:01 am
Please get a new head coach plus offensive and defensive coordinators first before the draft, the present crew has clearly demonstrated they do not know talent nor do they know how to coach it, except for maybe the wide receivers coach.
November 10th, 2014 at 11:03 am
Please no Winston! This team has wayyyyyyy to many holes to fill to draft a train wreck with no character as the leader of out team! There are no Andrew Lucks in this draft and we are in dire need of DLine and OLine BADLYYYYYYYY!!
November 10th, 2014 at 11:10 am
ESPN has us at #3 with JAX in front of us picking. Basically we went from #4 to #3 because Jets won.
November 10th, 2014 at 11:15 am
After all, Tampa Bay did have greatness at quarterback once.
His name was Steve Young. He won three games in two years.
In the end, the Bucs gave him away. Even when this team had its hands on something special, it couldn’t hang on.
November 10th, 2014 at 11:23 am
All you gaytors fans need to stop crying about Winston you have enough issues. Jameis is far more nfl ready than any other QB in draft. Until he is convicted of a crime he is innocent. I realize the majority of the posters on this site are Saints and we’re born fully mature and ready for adulthood. In the big picture other than the bogus rape allegations what he has done is nothing more than pranks by a young college student. If he was not famous it never would have even made the news.
Fire Lovie and draft Winston
November 10th, 2014 at 11:31 am
We need a QB yea our line sucks two but you need the best QB on the board can draft line on both sides of the ball with the next six rounds. Tell me the QB isn’t the most important player on the field LT isn’t doing to make reads and throw the ball to a open wideout
November 10th, 2014 at 11:35 am
When there are a few games left, Lovie will then change his tune from still in the hunt to we’re going for a high draft spot to help out the club due to unforseen circumstances in the coaching change adjustments.
November 10th, 2014 at 11:36 am
If a non athlete did those pranks they would be serving time.As far as the rape is concerned she will get a fair portion of his signing bonus.Fan since 1976,will not watch another Buc game if drafted.
November 10th, 2014 at 11:46 am
No doubt we need a QB and I would not be disappointed to hear Mariota’s name called. I just don’t want to place the future of the franchise on the shoulders of a man-child who has repeatedly proven he has zero integrity. I mean how long before he has a stripper pole in his living room and mattresses all over his lawn? 😉 That being said, the draft is not deep at QB so I would not be disappointed to see a lineman at #1 due to our gaping holes across the board.
November 10th, 2014 at 11:55 am
Aubpierce
You are clearly clueless. Obscenities blurted in public and retail theft under 100 has never landed ANYONE in jail. Get a life and take look around at the real world.
November 10th, 2014 at 11:56 am
I’m not a gator fan — I’m a human being. Ask yourself if YOU would still have a job after raping a woman, stealing from a grocery store, and shouting a vulgar term for a woman’s body in the middle of a crowd by your workplace.
Winston is a scumbag. And, worse than that from a football point of view, he’s incredibly stupid. Stupid has no place in the modern NFL.
And “One Read” Mariota is no better. In the NFL, he won’t be able to look to the sidelines and have the coaches read defenses for him. He’s a better-hyped, better-coached version of Taj Boyd.
November 10th, 2014 at 12:08 pm
41 until he is charged and convicted he is innocent. Unless you were in room with him and that skank you know nothing so shut up with the false allegations. It is not unrealistic that Winston is the victim and was setup for fincial gain. It happens every day in the real world.
November 10th, 2014 at 12:10 pm
Yes, i still kept my job after stealing from Publix. All I got was a 1 year ban fron that store. Thats it.
As far as the law is concerned, he didn’t do it. Why isn’t he afforded the same legal precedence as the rest of the general public. He was found not guilty. Just because YOU feel like he didn’t doesn’t mean that he did it. OJ was convicted of not being guilty. Whether you like it or not, the eyes of the LAW say he’s ok. Zimmerman was found not guilty. As much as I hate that and think its wrong, it doesn’t matter cause the LAW states that he’s ok. See my point?
And lets be real, he’s a college student, not an employee. Last I checked, college students can’t be paid……
Have you ever had a conversation with the kid? Do you KNOW him personally? If not, your statements are baseless and ignorant.
November 10th, 2014 at 12:18 pm
tmaxcon
Last checked $14,000 worth of damage would get most people some jail time.I have a life, and for most of my life dealt with scum like Winston who get a pass because of their skills and I’am sick of it.Ray Rice got his and so will Winston.
November 10th, 2014 at 12:27 pm
The more I think about it, drafting Winston will not only get me to buy tickets, but it’ll give us a good chance to lock down a Top Tier OC…
Ive come to peace that Lovie’s gonna be here in ’15, but I’ve been worried that no OC in their right mind would come down here…. But if they had a prospect like Winston to work with, we could finally get a Top Tier OC, which this club has Never Had… other than Gruden…
Btw, Lovie’s gonna have to get rid of Frazier too… Maybe Lovie should give up his F.O. responsibilities, and just take over the Defensive Playcalling himself… He needs to get back to basics! Leave the F.O. to Licht!
November 10th, 2014 at 12:33 pm
The line sucks I get it you clowns, everyone cans see that. Say you build up that line and you don’t get in position again to draft a potential franchise QB for a long while.
How many more years do we have to wait to get a franchise QB while we finish with 6-10 or 5-11 records? Scouts say there are 2-3 potential franchise QB’s coming next draft. Regardless of what YOU clowns on here are saying. I see the ones the scouts are talking about. There IS 1 “next Luck” coming out this draft and 1 better than Cam Newton coming out too. Take your pick.
I don’t want to sit around and wait any longer to hopefully have that shot at getting a franchise QB later on. You have to be in the right place at the right time. The QB has to be in the draft too. The QB’s are in this draft and now is the right place and the right time.
November 10th, 2014 at 12:34 pm
It’s telling when you refer to the reported victim of a sexual offense as a “skank.” It pretty much invalidates any opinion you have to offer on the matter.
Also, the “investigation” that was conducted against Winston was a sham. Virtually every independent evaluation by news organizations (including the Washington Post and New York Times) has concluded that the investigation was a complete farce and calculated to protect Winston and the university from liability.
You can go ahead and believe that he’s “innocent until proven guilty” — all we know for certain is that being a football player at a major college program comes with the perks of being able to ignore the law on campus and have other people cover for you.
And I don’t need to “talk” to Winston to know he’s a moron. No one with even an ounce of common sense would risk a multi-million dollar NFL payday on a pack of crab legs or feel compelled to shout a vulgar term for a woman’s body in room of strangers.
November 10th, 2014 at 12:36 pm
@The Ether ..I’ll buy season tickets for either one. If it’s Winston then you can throw in about 7 jersey’s with my order as well.
November 10th, 2014 at 12:44 pm
@#41…I’ll say this for the 10th time on this site. You can judge how you want to judge it.
Girl meets boy at an FSU bar around. Girl leaves bar with boy and gets into (not dragged into)boy’s car and goes back to the boy’s apartment with 3 men around 2 a.m. in the morning.
Apparently to people like yourself she was just there for tea and cookies right at 2 a.m.?
or Perhaps she just wanted to talk chalk talk with the Jameis Winston back at his apartment at 2 a.m.?
Sex was the furthest thing from her mind when she got into his car at 2 a.m. ?
November 10th, 2014 at 12:51 pm
If this thing ever did go to trial. Winston would walk just on that fact alone. She could have easily went back to her apartment and called it a night. Instead she chose to hop in a car with a boy and go back to his apartment.
Wholly crap I can’t tell you how many times I’ve taken girls back to my apartment from a bar when I was 20-21 years old. I’m sure MANY of us have done the same thing. Both the women and I knew why we were going back to my apartment.
It was for only one thing and one thing only.

Joe we would pick 3rd jacksoville is 2nd plus lovie has his future qb in glennon he said!

Not really, the Bucs have the same number of wins but the Jags have one more loss due to not having a bye week yet. In the strength of schedule department, the Bucs opponents are worse, thus giving them the 2nd pick of the draft.
November 10th, 2014 at 1:26 pm
I can only hope these fools draft Jameis Winston. But I have doubts that Lovie is smart enough to make the pick. Winston is the best quarterback to come out in the draft since Andrew Luck.
November 10th, 2014 at 1:41 pm
Guilty or not do you truly want the face of your franchise being someone who tag teams drunk girls, steals, and screams “f*#k her in the p*#&y AFTER being accused of rape? The guy can ball, no question. Is he a sure thing? Not a chance. College football may be win at all costs, but there’s something to be said about character, and Winston has none. If he goes to another team and dominates, so be it, but I would not hinge the future of my team on him. If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck…
November 10th, 2014 at 2:00 pm
“f*#k her in the p*#&y”???
I believe it was “I want to f**k some pu**y.”
He probably hadn’t been laid in a week and was just making a much needed announcement from a 20 year old kid.
November 10th, 2014 at 2:02 pm
Winston got accepted to Stanford.
November 10th, 2014 at 2:32 pm
QB should be the pick. No “ifs” “ands” or “buts”.
After that, go a safety to replace Baron (if one doesn’t rise to the top) and the rest offensive linemen.
Sign two wide receiver free agents and a better center if needed by then.
Sign a Defensive End to replace Clayborn.
Replace Frazier with Rod Marinelli, who will be available for Lovie (at last).
Forget Tedford return. Sign a veteran, successful OC. Fire Aroyyo and let the new OC bring in the best QB coach for the job of grooming a rookie.
KEEP Mike Glennon to start until the rookie is ready, or to play backup if the rookie is ready at the start of next season.
Replace the special teams coordinator.
All that can be done in one off season, with the possible exception of Center, who MIGHT have to be drafted. (if so, better make it round 2).
Keep Mankins. Replace rest of Oline.
November 10th, 2014 at 2:33 pm
@87ForJameisOrMariota
Really. You kiss women with that mouth? Oh wait…its ’87. Never mind. No women to consider 😉
November 10th, 2014 at 2:52 pm
Don bother drafting a DE. They ALWAYS take years and years to develop. No rookie DEs develop. You buy defensive ends.
It has to be QB. I think the Glazers demand it, Lovie, his system, and his philosophy be damned
November 10th, 2014 at 3:28 pm
Still a little early, nobody talked much about Bortles this time last year.

November 10th, 2014 at 3:50 pm
I’d take my chances with Winston. He will be fine with the right leadership. We always find a reason not to draft top talented players. If we used the same logic that some of you are using to not draft Winston, we would have never have drafted Warren Sapp. Time to get some great players here in Tampa and drop the draft him he is a great guy approach.
We have a bunch of so called great guys on the roster right now. How is that working out for us.
November 10th, 2014 at 3:57 pm
@bucco bruce
your list isn’t accurate. We have a fullback. A good one. He’s a lead blocker. Not Mike Alstott style, but good enough to lead block.
We just need an oline to help him.
Michael Johnson will be fine under rod.
I could address others, but I don’t think it would matter.
November 10th, 2014 at 3:58 pm
@Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston
…the QB greatness on this team starts and ends with Doug Williams…biggest mistake in the history of this franchise, letting him get away…started a QB carousel that’s now 30+ years and counting…
November 10th, 2014 at 4:11 pm
Bonzi
What makes you think jerry Jones is going to let Marinelli leave dallas. Leaving big D for a shit team and laughingstock shit franchise would be career suicide for Marinelli. Rod has done a great job for Dallas and obviously Dallas is a much bigger stage to play on. It be like leaving the Yankees for the bad news bears. Marinelli will not be in tampa and hopefully Lovie will not be either.
November 10th, 2014 at 4:22 pm
Brad Johnson broke the curse, Bucco. No, he was never elite, but he DID win us a Superbowl.
The reason we have not had a good QB since is because whenever we get a top 10 pick, we spend it on other positions.
Heck, we could have had Drew Brees but every fan in Tampa said he was washed up. Shows how much fans know. Josh Freeman seemed to be going the right direction until his final year in Tampa.
November 10th, 2014 at 4:23 pm
And Williams wasn’t THAT great. He went elsewhere and won a superbowl…so what? So did Dilfer.
November 10th, 2014 at 4:30 pm
Williams was the heart and soul of McKay’s playoff teams…team nosedived after he left…can’t judge him on stats, he got the job done…Culverhouse killed that team with his penny pinching…Williams super bowl win was a glimpse of the talent…
November 10th, 2014 at 5:43 pm
Lovie has actually, somehow made this team worse than it was when he took over. We now have more needs to fill with the draft and free agency than we did last year. WTF. Please get rid of this ass clown.
November 10th, 2014 at 6:52 pm
If there is a stud O-lineman get him ,if not trade down for more picks. Also it isn’t Frazier fault with the D. He isn’t the one out there playing. with any good DC, it will take time for some of the players to understand it and have it come second nature, quit trying to have instant success and give it a bit of time, look at Dallas and Green- Bay’s O-lines, and see what a good 1 looks at. Also in my opinion, Tedford will be good ,but dam people let the man be healthy first.
November 10th, 2014 at 10:57 pm
Mariota or bust.
November 11th, 2014 at 9:17 am
there is nothing I believe in less than hubris and the claymation puppet making that pick…if they had it this year they would have picked Clowney…another wannabe “baller” who is as soft as they come…we have enough of those guys on this team
