The Real Deal: Mike Evans
November 2nd, 2014When Joe wants to feel happiness, Joe thinks about Mike Evans. It feels good.
Joe hasn’t been this excited about a rookie wide receiver since blade-in-the-thigh, mattress-in-the-yard Mike Williams burst onto the Tampa Bay scene in 2010, and proceeded to haul in 65 balls and a whopping 11 touchdowns.
Evans is the real deal. He’s proven he has the sweet hands, the body control, the big body and the hunger, and he’s learning. The Bucs’ first-round pick only turned 21 in August.
Evans has missed time with a groin injury but still leads the Bucs at the halfway mark with 32 catches for 460 yards and four touchdowns, two this afternoon. The young man has a shot at a Williams-like rookie season, even with Mike Glennon routinely underthrowing him. (Hmm, where’s that “cannon” Jason Licht said Glennon has?)
Today, it seemed Bucs attempted to use Evans properly and wisely for the first time.
Joe sure hopes it continues. Joe needs the glowing light in a dark, dark season.

Could have gone 250, 4 TDs with a couple more throws his way being good. He’s another one of the non-concerns (along with GMC, LVD, Rainey, Smith…ummm yeah)
November 2nd, 2014 at 7:46 pm
This kids special… And he deserves a REAL QB! Tank it for Jameis!!
November 2nd, 2014 at 7:50 pm
BEAST!! That is all.
November 2nd, 2014 at 7:51 pm
I agree and its about time the Bucs utilize this young man. For the first time all season I actually thought they called a good offensive game it just wasn’t executed properly.
November 2nd, 2014 at 7:52 pm
Amen @Ether,
But you know they will find a way to win just enough to games to be out of the top three
November 2nd, 2014 at 7:59 pm
still shoulda draftrd a qb instead, then gotten a wr. there are other wr from that wr-deep draft that are doing better. always getting hurt.
November 2nd, 2014 at 7:59 pm
Great hands…
November 2nd, 2014 at 8:03 pm
“But you know they will find a way to win just enough to games to be out of the top three”
With Lovie as HC, and Glennon as QB, we’ve got a decent shot at that No 1 pick…
All I want is to see improvement from our D (which we saw), improvement from our younger players (which we saw), improvement from our O-line (which we saw), then lose the game!
Its all about the 2015 Draft, and anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves.
November 2nd, 2014 at 8:10 pm
With Mike Evans already reaching baller status… If ASJ & Sims come around, then I say we hand the reigns over to Licht…
What in the hell were the Glazers thinking giving Lovie Full Control?? When we draft Jameis… he better stand aside, or GTFO…
November 2nd, 2014 at 8:14 pm
Mike is already better then VJax wish they would throw some deep balls to Herron
November 2nd, 2014 at 8:21 pm
They should have traded V-Drops
November 2nd, 2014 at 8:23 pm
He traded jerseys with JFF to know what it’s like to wear a winning NFL jersey.
November 2nd, 2014 at 8:32 pm
So r u agianst glennon again or r u still the general
November 2nd, 2014 at 8:38 pm
Winston to Evans will make a helluva combo. Just give Jameis professional WR’s, a decent line and let the cannons fire.
November 2nd, 2014 at 8:41 pm
good game mike, thank you for your outstanding performance, I am just sorry we do not have a QB that can get you the ball more often.
November 2nd, 2014 at 8:42 pm
So a #7 overall pick that IS a playmaker and difference maker? WOW, go figure.
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:04 pm
Some of you people are crazy. Wanting the coach fired already????? Give the man time to get the right personnel in there to run this defense. Granted we have the core, just need players to surround that core. Evans, ASJ are players to build thus offense around. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Patience people!!!! Geesh. How the hell do you expect to have a winning franchise if you keep firing the coach every 2 tears. Look at Marvin Lewis in Cincinnati, how many years have they sucked??? Now look…..SMH
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:09 pm
Amazing. Spent over 150 million, multiple trades and draft picks and they got one right. The 7th pick. I think I called that one from my couch. Sad but happy at least one player is good.
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:10 pm
It’s nice to know L&L know how to draft 1st round talent. Too bad L&L didn’t show up sooner and draft Kuechly instead of Barron. Some will say they should have drafted Kelvin Benjamin but look who is throwing the ball to them.
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:32 pm
The kid makes it look easy. He is so fluid. Just so smooth and effortless. The ball looks like it floats softly into his hands. Should’ve had 2/3 td’s today. Glennon blows chimp.
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:33 pm
He certainly looks like the real deal. However, after Michael Clayton and Mike Williams, I’m going to temper my enthusiasm.
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:35 pm
Evans is different than those guys because he’s physically more dominant. He’s still learning to be a NFL receiver which is why having VJax around is a good thing.
November 2nd, 2014 at 9:36 pm
PHUCK JAMEIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh that’s right. Some of you already are
November 2nd, 2014 at 10:46 pm
@gatrbuc17
Been to gatorenvy.com much?
November 2nd, 2014 at 10:52 pm
Great to have Mike on our team. He makes Glennon look good. Some of those passes he has caught are awful throws…
November 2nd, 2014 at 10:54 pm
Strong in this one The Force is.
November 2nd, 2014 at 11:07 pm
Do we really want to be the ones to give the next JaMarcus Russell a check for $25million…
November 2nd, 2014 at 11:11 pm
@ TDTB
well that is nothing new for Evans since he made Johnny Football look good too.
November 2nd, 2014 at 11:14 pm
Just remember all the people saying Evans sucks and they don’t want to draft him. I was excited when they called his name because I really liked the kid. He made Manziel, which is not the only reason, but a reason Manziel isn’t starting.

Do “we” have a choice in the matter? I say no we don’t. The only way the Glazers sell ANY tickets at all next season is if they draft Jameis. That’s a fact that some of you are going to have to come to grips with. Like Winston or not. I think he’s coming to Tampa.
A buddy of mine hates the Noles…but he also said it’s the only logical choice for the Glazers to sell tickets. That’s why they own the team. Not so you all can sit home and watch it on TV. This is a business and drafting an FSU QB is smart business.
November 2nd, 2014 at 11:30 pm
Good day for Evans, but Glennon needs to spread the ball around more… get ASJ into the mix.
11 targets to Evans, 12 to VJ, just 3 targets to ASJ… Its like Glennon just locks onto those 2 receivers… And when theyre covered, he either sails it 10 yards over their head, or takes sacks.
That line gave the Neck plenty of time today… He just takes forever scanning the field… Get ASJ into the mix! keep feeding Rainey… and keep losing!
Its ALL about Ignoramous Jameis!!!
November 2nd, 2014 at 11:35 pm
If I hear one more person say let LOVIE get his personell. He hand picked everyone what r u guys smoking. Winstons dad said he’s staying in school. I’m an FSU fan but it’s looking Mariota. If Lovie is still somehow in charge and doesn’t drsft a QB I go boycott
November 2nd, 2014 at 11:41 pm
Broy34…from what I gather Winston’s dad said that quite awhile back. According to Winston himself, he said he’ll enter the draft this year if FSU goes undefeated deep into the season and he has a superb season. Well he’s not having the season he had last year that’s for sure, but they are undefeated still with not that many games left.
The latest rumor(report) I heard was from CBS sports saying that he will declare, but nothing form him yet. I think he’s going to leave.
November 3rd, 2014 at 12:19 am
I agree that Evans deserves a stud QB with a real cannon, not the weak as$ arm Glennon’s been showing lately. I’m honestly a little scared off by Winston, though. Physically, he reminds me too much of a Jfree/Daunte Culpepper type…. I’d much rather get Marriota or even Hundley.
November 3rd, 2014 at 12:33 am
Hundley runs more read option plays doesn’t he or am I wrong?
November 3rd, 2014 at 12:37 am
Everything Joe reads about Hundley from scouts is not good. Don’t blame Joe. He’s just the messenger.
November 3rd, 2014 at 2:13 am
Daunte Culpepper had a fine career; don’t insult him by comparing him to Josh Freeman.
November 3rd, 2014 at 3:43 am
I hate to be a downer when everything is going so well for our team, but I’m still waiting for this kid to use his head. That push off killed us. That injury to end the game.. well if he knew the rules he would’ve stood up. Let’s not forget about his goal line fumble in the preseason.
November 3rd, 2014 at 4:51 am
If y’all ever watch Evans at A&M jonny football would never been as good as he was if it wasn’t for Evans saving him with crazy catchs all the time..
November 3rd, 2014 at 6:28 am
Evans is the first Jersey I’ve purchased in 15+ years. We should have traded V-Jackoff.
November 3rd, 2014 at 6:29 am
git that #1 draft pick
November 3rd, 2014 at 7:23 am
’87, that is a lie. They would sell tickets if they drafted Mariota and you know it.
November 3rd, 2014 at 7:58 am
Hundley is definitely the most gifted qb out the bunch (wait til you see his 40 combine time followed by his pro day throwing to wide open recievers and shows off his effortless release) I think they call that upside or whatever lol. But Jameis is hands down the best qb and its no close. You don’t have to teach him how to win but MAYBE HE CAN TEACH US! DRAFT THE KID!
November 3rd, 2014 at 10:58 am
Marriota is better than Winston in every aspect. Better accuracy, better play diagnosis, better athlete, and even though he needs work on his mechanics still much better than Winston…also to my knowledge hasn’t faced sexual assault allegations.
November 3rd, 2014 at 11:36 am
winston is the best qb in college. the others play in a gimmick offense (marriota and hundley). winston already plays in a pro style offense and is a proven winner. we need to draft winston now!

How bout giving Glennon the same thing?
If we do draft a QB in the first rd I think we should trade down and maybe get Bryce Petty from Baylor. What think you?
November 3rd, 2014 at 1:21 pm
Melman does have a cannon for an arm, it just gets wet from the salt spray and misfires frequently.
November 3rd, 2014 at 4:43 pm
Winston is as dumb as a stump, sorry QB’s need a brain not just athletic ability.
