Not Using Your Head
November 23rd, 2014The Bucs’ final drive of the first half made Joe want to slam his head against the glass of the press box window at Soldier Field.
It was bad enough the Bucs left way too much time running off the clock, it was quite another that Bucs quarterback Josh McCown played (again) like a rattled Pop Warner quarterback.
With 19 seconds left and first down from the Bears-10 with the Bucs leading 7-0, the absolute worst thing a quarterback can do is take a sack. So what did McCown do?
He took a sack.
At that time of the half, you throw if a guy is wide open. If he is not, you throw the damned ball into the 20th row.
Even worse, on the very next play, McCown tried to thread the needle into triple coverage, and somehow, someway by the grace of God the ball was not picked.
Somewhere, Jameis Winston was appalled.
Yes, the Bucs got a field goal out of it. There is a reason why McCown has never been a franchise quarterback for an NFL team. That display late in the first half was Exhibit-A.
So, the Bucs don’t need a quarterback, eh?

The coaching carousel needs to stop and I don’t advocate a change. But this team is worse than it was last year and it’s not because we’re playing tons of young bucks who are definitely on the way up. (With a couple of exceptions.)
I’m incredibly discouraged right now.

It’s not about whether the Bucs need one, it’s will Lovie take one. McCown needs to keep being this bad to force a change.

@bucrightoff
Yep…..McCown will need to continue to fail……I think Lovie has already given up on Glennon….so McCown failure = QB

JC thank god we’re only a few games out of first place and thank Christ we put McClown back in great move and made all the difference. Remember we’re supposed to be good little idiots and the ecstatic that were only 3-4 games out of 1st place.

Remember football season doesn’t start untill November.

I agree that McCown needs to suck balls the rest of the season before Lovie drafts a QB. I think this defense is gonna be legit and so will the rest of the team but as much as I would like L&L to draft a QB they’ll probably go with a DE or something.

How bout the play series where the Bucs run on third and one and then try a QB sneak with the game on the line as if they were trying to preserve the win and run out the clock, wth

This game was obscene! How is it that we can see that Josh was out of controle but this coaching staff can’t? Does ANYONE here believe we have a better record right now than we would have had if we kept Schiano? I know I don’t! I believe we would be at least tied for first if not alone at the top!

This team isn’t going to look like the team that carries us into the future/winning column. It’ll be at least another 2 years for that. We know the future QB is not on this team, and if we draft him in April, I don’t want to see him starting his first year. The question is who makes the most sense for us over the next year and a half? We’re clearly abandoning the win-now mentality, otherwise Lovie would be gone at season’s end.
With this and next year being “wash-seasons”, I say keep McClown and at least develop our future top 2 stringers of the future…

Joe, can you honestly tell all of your readers that you have COMPLETE confidence that Lovie will;
A. Draft a QB at all…(I swear I can almost hear him now at the end of the season “Josh is our quarta back.”)
B. Make the RIGHT decision for this team??? Mike Evans was an absolute no brainer when we selected him – if we are staring at a top 3 what the h e double hockey sticks leads you to believe Lovie “Reginald Vel Johnson” Smith isn’t going to draft us the next Ryan “Crablegs” Leaf?

Draft the best athlete in the 1st round that’s either the OL or the DL. You won’t go wrong !
November 23rd, 2014 at 9:54 pm
Lovie is too stubborn to get a real qb, or an experienced offensive coordinator.
November 23rd, 2014 at 10:16 pm
Was going to the Bengals game this weekend. Sorry Lovie, Glazers but I’m done. The QB needs to be upgraded, but this will not happen. Lovie will stick with his man. $6,600 down the drain. If anyone would like 3 club level seats for the Bengals game let me know. Been a fan for 20 years, I’m out. Joe, if you know a charity that can use them I can throw in a parking pass also. No joking I’m done…

We know the bucs need a quarterback and so does mccown lol this is a writing of a hater that’s wants an even worse quarterback named Mike Glennon on the field

Does anyone think we don’t need a qb? Not sure where you are going with your last sentence there. Even the people who support Mccown know he isn’t the future of this team. He is a decent stop gap, nothing more. He’s clearly better than Glennon, but not nearly good enough to be a franchise qb. He can start for about 10 teams in this league right now. Tampa, Washington, Tennessee, Houston, Arizona, st Louis, buffalo, jets, Eagles, and raiders. He is better the current starters that played this week. That makes him an NFL starting qb but obviously a bottom third guy.
Anyways, I don’t think Mccown played as dumb as you state in this article. He did make some bad throws. His 2 ints were tipped, a little off target throws. But they weren’t bone head decisions. Mccowns accuracy looked off all game, not sure if the wet ball played a factor or not, but you’d expect an NFL qb to be able to handle a little rain. Not sure what caused his bad performance. But his decision making wasn’t the worst, missed open guys and didn’t execute accurate throws. I’m still happy to have Mccown starting over Glennon. Mccown is just funner to watch, the offense moves the ball when he’s at qb.

Joe you think a Winston/ Mariota can be drafted and make an immediate impact on our offense? Better than McClown ?
